Re: Admin message says -2
Peter,
Given that it is persistent (Gerald's idea didn't help) it sounds like a glitch. I'd take a screen shot to document it, then send a report to [email protected] describing it. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

The next action taken at this step is manual on Groups.io's part, and it often takes a few days for them to accept the invitation. (I need to go back and update it [ Wiki page] again to reflect the name change for the Existing Transfers list). Shal, Good! And maybe also include in the Wiki the gist of what you said above about the switch from "need to invite" to "invitation received" is automated and the rest after that is manual and takes time. Maybe even suggest it could take a week... or whatever time seems reasonable to head off premature concerns. Jim H |

If the members couldn't see what is being shared by reading the archives you wouldn't have to worry about any bad members. This doesn't make sense to me. If your members (I prefer the word SUBSCRIBER to make it clearer that they're a MEMBER of your group vs just a MEMBER of Groups.io) ) can't read the message archives, then they can only participate via email. Just put them on no mail and then they can't see what is going on. Then you wouldn't have to worry about them bothering you by trying to rejoin and rejoin. For sure! Can't read the archives AND can't get email? No point in anyone joining such a group. But being that the archives cannot be shut down, that won't work in this case. The archives CAN be "shut down." Just change the group settings so only SUBSCRIBERS (members of the group) can read the message archives. Jim H |

I had a "person" request to join two days ago, her replies to my questions were flaky, but in the end when asked who recommenced my group I was given a name of a long standing member and approved this "persons" request to join. I've banned her. Managing your membership is your job as Group Owner (and your Moderators), not a job for the management of Groups.io. In addition to everything you said above (some not included) you also mentioned in another message that the member who this "person" says recommended her has never heard of her, so she lied about that. That's a REALLY BIG negative on top of obviously not belonging in your group. All of the above is all the clue I'd need to leave her "banned" and FORGET ABOUT HER. No need to be concerned who/what a banned member might be in addition to the reason you banned her. That reason should be enough. Note that "banned" means you won't see a new subscription request from that banned email address. But... if she changes her email address she can submit a subscription request from that new email address... which you can also ban. Let's hope you don't have to lather, rinse and repeat. Jim H |

Re: New Group Not Being Created From Yahoo Groups
Cathy, i started yet again today, to be careful, I created another brand new group - I verified that I am the owner Thanks for detailing the steps you took. Without that we were simply guessing at where you might be misled. At this point, the Yahoo Group name should appear in the Existing Transfers list on the instructions page (that list used to be called In Process but I like the new name better). Does it appear? Does the text below that box indicate that there is at least one transfer in process or completed? If not, then things are already off the rails and you likely need help from [email protected] to resolve the issue. - in YahooGroups, i invited a new member ¡°[email protected]¡± The next action taken at this step is manual on Groups.io's part, and it often takes a few days for them to accept the invitation. However, in the mean time the transfer's status page (from the Existing Transfers list) should in a reasonably short period switch from saying that you need to invite the transfer agent to saying that your invitation has been received. That part is automated. If you can see this transfer's status page, what does the text in the status box at the top say? feel free to use the instructions I just wrote for you, they are clear cut and concise and walk you through the applicable steps, as this illustrates, I know what I am doing. I also just (successfully) transferred a group. I updated GMF's Wiki page with screenshots to document the steps (I need to go back and update it again to reflect the name change for the Existing Transfers list). What can you do to actually help me to finish what, for all my other groups, has been a piece of cake? Not a damn thing. Except offer our advice and observations. No one at GMF works for Groups.io, for direct help send a message to [email protected] and let them know what you've tried and where you're stuck. I would like to hear about what you learn, either way, so please post again. Maybe there's something missing from our Wiki page that would help others who get stuck as you have. Yahoo address members having trouble?
This week I heard from two yahoo address members who deleted a spam message from the group that generated an auto-remove feature.
They reinstated themselves and I checked and showed them as still members of the list -- but both complained of not getting messages. I've asked both to check to see if new messages are ending up in spam and to click the "not spam" notification but am waiting to hear back. Come to think of it -- I hope they got my replies! Is this just the cost of doing business as a yahoo user on IO? Rachel |

Yes, on a monthly basis. That is, there is an option to pay for 30 days of Premium and it will automatically revert to Basic at the end of the period. Click onto the Upgrade page and then click the View/Change Plan button to review the options.
For my PTA group I upgrade to Premium once or twice a year, corresponding to school registration and maybe a membership drive later in the school year. In between I rely on Invite, but 90% or more of our memberships join during registration so the few Invites is not a big deal. If your list doesn't have a couple of "peak" registration seasons then yes, you might find the yearly Premium plan to be simpler. Sigh. I'm getting pushback from someone on my board due to her concerns about GIO being "secure enough." (Never mind the details.) What sort of "tech-savvy" language do you expect will satisfy someone who has no specific reason to suspect Gio is insecure... especially when we've been told to "never mind the details?" Absolutely nothing has been provided that anyone can respond to. Jim H |

Re: member security concerns
Without knowing what "secure enough" means in this person's head, it's pretty hard to say anything.??
What are the threats and attack vectors that are of concern? Physical access to the servers?? How are the admin usernames/passwords secured and backed up?? the list goes on and on....... A good place to start is here -> /static/about The Data Processing Agreement might allay their concerns. Toby |

Re: How Do I upload a CSV File of Our Member Email Addresses?
Thanks Duane! When you say "one month," do you mean there is the flexibility to move in and out of Premium to the free version at any time? Since we add members throughout the year, it appears that we would have to sign up for Premium permanently since we don't have the luxury of volunteers chasing down new members, inviting them to join, then following up with them if they don't do so within a reasonable period. Since there is no paid staff in our organization, we try to find the most economical, automated, least onerous to volunteers, administrative solutions.? On Wed, Nov 28, 2018 at 9:34 AM Duane <txpigeon@...> wrote: In your case, my suggestion would be to upgrade the group to premium for one month ($10), then use Direct Add for the members.? That would remove the Invite/Approve/etc step.? You can use a CSV file to add everyone at once.? When there are more than 20, you may see a short delay, but that normally only lasts a couple of hours (it's a spammer prevention tool Mark uses.) --
