What does this mean

I checked the history of a brand new member and this is what appeared for the test message I posted to him:

Re: I get bouncing, what can I do? (was: Changing a member's email address)

Sue,

I get bouncing, what can I do?

When and how do you see "bouncing" related to your email address?

So far it does not look like your email service has bounced (rejected) any messages from GMF, but are you seeing bounces listed in your Account, or in your Subscription to another group?

Or, do you get failure notices (bounces) when you attempt to post to a group by email?

Re: How do you get messages in your group to reply to sender? #bug

Received from Stephanie Guerlain at 11/4/2018 01:27 PM UTC:

Does anyone else have their groups.io group set to "Reply to Sender" and it works as intended?

Yes. It works perfectly here. I use an email client on my home computer... not Gmail.

group transfer and premium upgrade question #transfer #upgrade

I had read here that the group transfer would likely happen more quickly if I upgraded to a paid group for at least a month. So I did that.

My question is, do I need to delete and restart the transfer request for it to be noticed that it's now a "premium" group?

Thanks.

Re: Query Databases form the web #database

Hi Alex,

Dear Group.io;

Welcome to GMF, a user-to-user forum (no Groups.io personnel here).

I have question about the outside accessibility of the databases inside each group.
Is it possible to query the existing tables via XML or any other method using a script?

Maybe.

There is an API for Groups.io, but I don't know if or how it works with members-only features (features like the Database, which require one to be logged in to access).

Yes, the -test option is available to all groups.? As you and Shal mentioned, there's no way to reverse the procedure, so use it VERY carefully.
[Edit, I should clarify that it's the Delete function that can't be reversed.? The others can be undone, but could be a hassle.]

Our group decided to get rid of many of our oldest posts (from 15-20 years ago) as they were no longer relevant and just slowed down Searches, e.g. We used the Beta "batch mode" method Shal described above and it worked like a charm! Setting my account to see 100 entries at a time, I went through over 100,000 messages quite quickly. WAY better than the one at a time method.

If you are *sure* you want to delete them, this method was great for us. (It is a paid group - not sure whether the test site is available to free groups, too....)

Changing a member's email address

Hello,

We have several visually-impaired members and two have recently changed their email addresses. For the first one I removed them and invited then again via the changed email address. Is it possible for me (Owner/Administrator) to make the change for them without involving them at all? I understand that using the site is not as straightforward for them as for all the sighted members.

Thank you,

Barbara Howard

Re: [email protected] not working for me

I am now an owner and the drop down is working. So that is a start. Now just waiting for the transfer @ groups io to be sorted. So fingers crossed it will work.
Thanks for your help Shai.

Re: Group messages being blocked to @cox.net addresses

Thanks Duane,?
This user says that she is getting topic/message emails (no way to tell how many), but when she tries to set a password by going to the login page and clicking on forget password she never gets that email. She was transferred from yahoo with the rest of the group.

She needs to be able to log in to vote in polls and access files, and I¡¯m not sure what to suggest next. I will tell her to complain loudly, but that feels like a very small voice in the wilderness.
Thanks
Beth

Re: Yahoo group transfer "no email" #transfer #yahoo

Duane, Shal,

Thank you! Glad to know that they'll get moved to Special Notices when they get over here.

I think I'll email them as you suggest -- not sure how many addresses it'll be but will see.

Thanks,
Suchi

Re: Delete Messages

Donald,

I thought there was an option that could be set to delete the oldest
messages as new ones came in only after the storage space hit the
limit.
That option deletes the attachments, not the message bodies.

Re: Yahoo group transfer "no email" #transfer #yahoo

randsjmj,

Maybe change all Y!group /No Email/ to Special Notices
What is the best way to do this? (I guess this is really a yahoo
question. I did try searching online but no luck.)
So far as I know you have to do them one by one. But if your Groups.io group is going to be set to Disallow No Email then you needn't do this, unless it is to ensure that they receive the "we're moving" announcement in the Y!Group.

What I did instead was export the Y!Group members list as CSV (these were groups of fewer than 1000 members) and open that in Excel. This let me sort the list by the Delivery column. Then in the "Email" column I selected all the addresses belonging no No Email members and copied them. I then pasted that list of addresses into a BCC on a message I sent to them off-list (with my Gmail account). Because each group had only a few dozen No Email members that wasn't disallowed by Gmail. If you have hundreds that might be a different story.

As a footnote: I had previously removed the Bouncing addresses from the list in excel. Nevertheless several of the "No Email" addresses bounced when I sent to them by Gmail. I suspect that Y!Groups detection of bad addresses is less than fully reliable.

For a different reason I set all No Email members to Moderated in the Y!Group. That I did have to do one by one via the Manage Members list, but having them sorted out in Excel made that easier.

As Ilene said, you can delete them one topic at a time. Or one message
at a time if you switch the list to Message view.
?
There is also a "batch mode" in testing. If you append "-test" to the
address when you're looking at the message list in Topics view then you
will see checkboxes to the left of each topic. Like this, but use your

?
CAUTION: there is no undo, no backup, nor other protection if you make a
mistake or later regret it. That's in part why this "bulk" feature is
still only in testing and not otherwise available.
?
If you could tell us why you want to remove them we may be able to
suggest an alternative that would suit. For example, if the concern is
over storage space you needn't worry: message content isn't counted
against your group's quota. Attachments to the messages, and photos in
the messages do count however.

Thanks - yes that was what I was told.
But if more owners are asking for it and more owners want?or need that option maybe it will be made a higher priority. Jusk thinking. Ilene?

There's not a way to keep them deleted as new posts come in, other than manually, but if someone has decided to remove all currently existing posts, in effect starting over, it would be a different situation.? I would think that would only happen if a group moved from Y!G and decided they shouldn't have copied the messages.? If it were repetitive, I could see where Mark wouldn't want to do it, but he might consider a one-time total deletion.

Bulk delete of various items is on the TODO list, just not a high priority.
