Re: How do you get messages in your group to reply to sender? #bug

It is definitely set correctly. I've tried setting it and updating the group like 12 times. It is not a gmail issue, it happens to everyone in the group. Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: [email protected] not working for me

Keith,

The owner of the io group has now made me a moderator of the io group
so I thought though I would have a go again. I am trying to go through
the process ... yet when I get to the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer I am
able to type in the yahoo group details yet where it comes to the
dropdown list for groups.io there is nothing.
That's what I thought: moderator isn't good enough. The owner must make you an owner of the group, or do it him/herself.

The drop-down list is only populated with groups that you own (or co-own).

Keith,

So do you have to be a moderator on IO group to sort the transfer?
I believe you must be an owner of the IO group in order to initiate or manage a transfer.

Re: How many invitations to join can be sent all at once? Any way to place messages in chronological order?

Milt,

Can anyone here tell me whether we can we invite that many to join the
new group, or will we have to do it a few at a time?
Confirming what Duane said, you can invite them all at one time - I've invited up to several hundred at once, others probably more. The only hitch is that the invites will likely be briefly held for review by Groups.io - usually less than a day.

Only problem is that they are now in random order. It would be nice
to be able to put them in chronological order but we have not figured
out how to do that--no big deal.
I don't think there's any way to set or adjust the posting time when posting them as you are doing; but if your process posted them in order they ought to have remained in order.

If the messages as posted retain some of the original message header fields, especially the Date field, you might ask [email protected] to copy that field into the database such that the messages appear to have been posted "back then". That would likely be something they'd have to do as a "one-off" bit of database manipulation, but maybe if you catch Mark in a good mood... ;-)

Re: [email protected] not working for me

Keith,

So do you have to be a moderator on IO group to sort the transfer?
I believe you must be an owner of the IO group in order to initiate or manage a transfer.

In addition you, or someone you're collaborating with, must be either a moderator with the privilege to appoint moderators, or an owner, of the Yahoo Group.

Also I not that I have sent many invites to [email protected] and not
ever gets done.
That's not the first step in the process, if you started with that then that's why nothing has happened.

Please review the Y!Group transfer instructions and GMF's collection of notes about Y!Group transfers.
/yahootransfer
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

If you feel you've taken the right steps in the right order please give us more detail on precisely where you are in the process: what you've done and what you're seeing, so we can attempt to help you correct whatever's wrong.

So I and the 460 plus people in the yahoogroup are sort of in limbo
now.
The transfer process makes no changes to your Yahoo Group, so you should be able to continue using it until you are satisfied with the progress of your transfer. See also this earlier topic:

Re: Automatic logout 30-days after login

Jim,

How about an option to "Remain permanently logged in?" Those choosing
it would get a cookie that never expires. ("Never" probably being Jan
2039.)
I like your suggestion to update the cookie on visits better. No new option to implement or explain. So that's what I've proposed:

For efficiency reasons (and possibly other reasons) one wouldn't want to update the cookie on every page load, but I'm sure Mark can work out an effective way to do it.

Re: Calendar - Reminder Notices date format

Thanks Shal

I have this selected everywhere I can find to make a selection but the
reminders still arrive with the American format ...
The only place this should be selected is in the subscriber's Date Display setting, in the Preferences page of the subscriber's account.

Yes this is where I have it selected and also in the Group 'Default Sub Settings'

Thank you I will make a suggestion in the beta

Cheers,
Pamela

Re: Calendar - Reminder Notices date format

Pamala,

I am struggling to find where to change the date format for calendar
reminders.
The body of the reminder has the month spelled out (e.g. "30 October 2018") but I see what you mean, in the subject it remains US format ("10/30/18").

I have this selected everywhere I can find to make a selection but the
reminders still arrive with the American format ...
The only place this should be selected is in the subscriber's Date Display setting, in the Preferences page of the subscriber's account.

I think it would be fair to make the suggestion in beta (or to support) that reminders and notices generated by the group calendar should respect the subscriber's Date & Time Display settings.

Calendar - Reminder Notices date format

My apologies if this has been asked and answered already.
I am struggling to find where to change the date format for calendar reminders. ?
I am in Australia and use the DD.MM.YY format. ?I have this selected everywhere I can find to make a selection but the reminders still arrive with the American format of MM.DD.YY which is confusing for our elderly members.

Can someone please tell me if it is possible to change the reminder notices and if so where do I go to do it?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Pamela

You can order the photographs within any album easily, although it can be tedious. The order is determined by initial characters, so you can preset the order by editing the photograph names to have numbers (or letters) as the start, e.g. 01, 02, or A, B, C and so on. Note the leading zero if numbers are used; if those aren't included it all goes a bit wrong, with 1 being followed by 11, at which point you have to start again. :(
A start at 01 will work unless there are more than 99 photos in any album; if there are more than 99 then the first one will have to be 001, and so on. Single alphabetic initials work up to 26 (obviously!)

Like I said... easy but tedious.

As this information is missing from our Yahoo transfer wiki page, I've recently added a section to that effect (/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Assess-Group-Storage-Needs). Feel free to perform further edits.

Personally, I like the albums ordered by title, but it would be nice to be able organize the pictures in the album any way wanted. One thing I can say in Yahoo Group¡¯s defense, is they had a pretty good photo album system.

When looking at an album I recently posted I see that the photos are in Title order. Each time I try to change this to "Sort by taken" my instruction is ignored and "Sort by posted" appears. The default always reverts back to "Default by name" i.e. alphabetically. Sort by date taken is the best/most logical order to me.

Thank you,

Re: Do we need to stop posting to Yahoo before transfer starts? #transfer

Suchi,

Do we need to stop posting messages to our old Yahoo group before the
migration to Groups.io starts?
It is not a technical requirement.

Will messages posted there after the start of the transfer still be
brought over?
After the transfer agent has accepted the invite, and you've promoted the agent to moderator status, you will be asked to click a button on the transfer page to give the final go-ahead for the transfer.

Messages posted to the Yahoo Group after that point may or may not be transferred - it depends upon just exactly when they post versus when the agent actually copies the Y!Group's messages.

If you want to be sure that all messages make it to the Groups.io group you should moderate or otherwise restrict posting in the Yahoo Group just before pushing that button. If you do this there will be some period of time (perhaps a few days) where members can't post at all (they have not yet been added to the Groups.io group, and you've restricted the Y!Group).

On the other hand, if having messages and replies post promptly is more important than having the messages "on the record" in the Groups.io group then you can leave posting open in the Yahoo Group as long as you want. You could, for example wait until you receive the notice that the transfer is complete before you restrict the Yahoo Group. If you do this there will be some later posts in the Yahoo Group that aren't copied to the Groups.io group.

There's no perfect recipe; you have to judge for yourself which trade-off is better, given the nature of your group.

Re: Do we need to stop posting to Yahoo before transfer starts? #transfer

Thanks! So messages posted to Yahoo during the transfer will be migrated over?

Yes, good point re: moderation.
Anything posted after the transfer begins might be left behind. Just put you Y group on full moderation until the end of the transfer.

Another problem is that posts to your groups.io group will be mixed into the old messages in the order they are received by the group if they are sent while the transfer is taking place. (The announcement used to be posted *before* the transfer took place.) Again, the best thing to do is put your groups.io group on full moderation until the transfer is completed.

There could be a few hours between the time that the agent begins to move your messages and the "notice of completion" gets sent out to group members. If anyone posts to the Yahoo group after the transfer agent is done, those messages will be orphaned in the Yahoo group.

At some point you should consider putting the Yahoo group on moderation so you retain some control over things like this. Whether to do so before or after the transfer is up to you.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce?
