Re: Attachment storage question

Yes, that is what is happening, but our group requires photos and so we have to be able to have attachments. We also require attachments to do tutorials. I guess we are stuck with deleting them all.

On a large list of 3,000 we don¡¯t allow attachments. The message needs to make sense without the attachment or refer to a website or a document put in the files. Otherwise we would have the same problem with a huge numbers of attachments, most of which are irrelevant. If an old attachment is deleted, then the old message is no longer useful.

A poster on one list used to post very frequently from her World Bank address. The system automatically attached a logo for the World Bank. A thousand, two thousand World Bank logos in the folder?

E-mails are "Bouncing #issue

Good afternoon:

Can someone please provide the IP address for the sender's email server, so that our IT Department may look into why we are all receiving the "Your emails are bouncing" messages?

(I'm pretty sure it's because our group is for Law Enforcement Personnel, which is causing the hiccup. We've added the groups.io page as a "safe" site to the firewall, but this is still happening.)

Thanks in advance.

Nicole

Re: Attachment storage question

Thank you, I have that set like that. I still have to delete over 7,000 attachments by hand. Down to 6358 attachments now and still can't upload a file.

Termicat,

Is there any way to stop attachments from storing at the group web
page without disabling attachments to our members email?
For the Out of Space setting Select "Delete Old Attachments"; under
Message Policies on your group's Settings page.

I haven't tested this to see if it will let you upload files or photos
when you're at or near quota, but I think it ought to. If not, maybe
that should be a feature suggestion.

Attachment storage question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Is there any way to stop attachments from storing at the group web page without disabling attachments to our members email? I know that it is contributing to my total storage space and not allowing me to upload files. Do I have to delete all the attachments one at a time to free up storage space?
?
Thanks in advance.

An owner (or a moderator with the proper permissions) can use the More button below the post, then select View Source from the list.

Owners (and moderators with the proper permissions) can close topics.? I don't believe that's ever been done on this group though.? Sometimes a new user will search through the old information and ask clarification or a related question.? I like doing that on my groups because it keeps the information together and makes it easier for someone to find an answer later.

The beta group IS the official suggestion box for the site.? If the topic exists over there and isn't locked, you could give it a bump.? Otherwise, a new topic for a suggestion is fine.

I rarely print emails, but I found a very simple way to do it if you want to print from your group page. Normally you print emails from your email client, but who wants to save tens of thousands of archived posts ... that's what io is for, right? My solution, Use Firefox as your browser. Here is an example. I opened a post via my group's page. Using the Firefox browser's very top menu line, I clicked on File ! Print Preview. You will see this type of output, which is not pretty, but there's good news ... Firefox makes it easy to clean it up. See below.

Re: Printing, Forwarding, and Saving Messages

Thanks to Bart and Duane for the work arounds.

The issue is forwarding old emails, ones that have probably been deleted on a personal computer years ago.

Where is the wishlist to add features ¡ª or do I just use the Beta list?

Enabling the Simplify Page button will strip out the menu crud showing up on the left. This is a very nifty feature of Firefox and I have no idea if it is available in other browsers, but I would not be surprised. My version of Firefox is Quantum version 63.0, which is the very latest update. Even if you don't like Firefox, you can simply keep it around only for the times you want to print and use your regular browser for all else.

Thank you for responding. This allows people to download all the files in categories ¡ª messages, files, etc. I love this feature when I¡¯m doing research, but I¡¯m not sure I want anyone to be able to do that. And with an archive of 60,000 messages, almost no one wants to.

The need is to be able to print, save, or forward one message. Or even a group of messages as the result of a search. It appears that this is only available with copy and paste.

Other than exporting, as Bart said, there are no functions like that on the site.? Some of those, particularly forwarding and moving between group/subgroup have been discussed on beta, but no changes have been made recently.? I don't know if there will ever be a way to move between groups since that could get quite complicated as far as programming.? Another option that has been discussed is to be able to email yourself a copy of a message from the archive.

The simplest way to perform those actions is to use the copy you get in your email to forward or save.? If you really want it moved, you could delete it from the original location after putting it where you want it.

tolerance for messages being called topics, and then topics being defined as messages, expanded, and polls is very low.
What you see shown in the drop down depends on how you get there.? If you get there from the group's home page or the Your Groups list at the top, the view will be the same as it was last time you were there, either Topics, Messages, Expanded, or Polls.? The site remembers the view that you used last.? The exception to this is if you use the overview page of all your groups.? When you click on a group name there, it always goes to the Topic view and that becomes the new default.

Topics lists by topic/subject header
Messages show them by individual messages with one line of the content shown
Expanded shows them individually with full content of each message
Polls would show only any polls that exist.

If a person has a preference that they always want to use, they could create a bookmark while viewing the page the way they want it. then use that to go to the group.
?
You will find previous discussions, as well as wiki information, have covered all of this.? These options have been pretty much the same for at least a couple of years, so I doubt any changes are planned.
