Re: reply to post contains original message

Thank you, Thank you!
Now I know how I was accidentally getting some of the message included in a reply.

The rest of that link was helpful, as well. ?

If you are replying using the Reply link on a message in the group's
Messages pages, see this guide:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-composition-tips-and-tricks

If you are replying through your emil interface then it would depend on
which interface/service you are using.

Re: Groups.io site updates #changelog

* NEW: Topics can have a reply to setting that overrides the group's reply
to (and any associated hash tags).
How can you set a topic in this way?
If I click on New Topic, I don't see any way to change the Reply to setting.

Re: Resend "Confirm" message

Jim,

I shouldn't be able to approve a request via email (or via web for
that matter) while the email address remains unconfirmed ...
Why not?

Both steps must happen before the person can receive group messages or access the group's pages as a member. What difference does it make in which order the step are taken?

... and the notification I get at my home email address doesn't
mention whether it's confirmed or not.
I might support a suggestion that the NC status be included in the notice sent to the mods, but be aware that the member may have corrected the status by the time you read the notice. The group mods would have to be tolerant of such "false alarms".

Re: INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE BACK

Ellen,

There was an email today to the subgroup called members. When
I tried along with two others to respond to sender ...
I don't have a clear idea of what happened.

How did you try? Using the Reply link in the group's Messages section or using your email interface?

Also, what is your group's Reply To setting (in the Message Policies section of the group's Settings page. And right under that, is the "Remove Other Reply Options" box checked?

... I received the first sender that responded ...
I don't understand what you mean by that. Could you provide more detail on what you received and how?

... so as a last resort I had to respond to the entire group which I
did not want to do.
That may relate to the settings mentioned above.

Re: reply to post contains original message

Pamela,

On my own group, sometimes I accidentally get an original post to
appear in the body of a reply I'm composing. But I don't know how I'm
doing it.

I would like to do it more often. What's the trick?

Re: Adding a group of members to multiple subgroups at one time

An update if anyone finds this when searching.? I finally got the members moved to the main group tonight. I created the text file and did a direct add from main checking my subgroups - and immediately hit the "you have reached the limit" message even though all of these members are already in the main group. It makes sense, but needs to be factored in that there is another delay in the process if you are crazy enough to want to mass direct add to multiple subgroups at one time.
Again, many thanks to Bruce and Shal.

Re: #importingdata #howtoguide #howto #howto #importingdata #howtoguide

Here is a sample of fictitious data (in CSV format) that I tried to import.

is there a way to turn spam filters off? with spectrum you can not.

If you're on Spectrum and were formerly Time Warner, you should be able to turn filtering off. If formerly on Charter, I don't know. I was formerly Time Warner and I just set the spam filter to filter the spam into my Inbox instead of Trash or Junk... that's equivalent to filter off.

#importingdata #howtoguide #howto #howto #importingdata #howtoguide

I'm trying to import an address book into the Databases section using a CSV file containing the following column headers:
  • LAST NAME
  • FIRST NAME
  • TITLE
  • COMMUNITY
  • MUNICIPALITY
  • DEPARTMENT/DIVISION
  • ADDRESS:Address Line 1
  • ADDRESS:Address Line 2
  • ADDRESS:City
  • ADDRESS:State / Province / Region
  • ADDRESS:Postal / Zip Code
  • ADDRESS:Country
  • PHONE
  • FAX
  • EMAIL ADDRESS
For the six ADDRESS data headers above, I selected the Address column type when setting up the new table in the Databases section.

All the columns import correctly, except for "ADDRESS:City". "ADDRESS:City" is being populated by?"ADDRESS:Address Line 1" data.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Nelson

Re: database help #howtoguide

Perhaps too much detail, but this is generally how it worked for me.
  • Make sure you have a header row in your CSV file
  • Create a new table in the Databases section of GIO
  • Make sure each column name in the CSV file matches each column name in the GIO database
  • In the GIO database, click "+ Import Rows"
  • Choose your CSV file and make sure "File Has Header Line" is checked
  • Click "Import"

Re: TWO QUESTIONS #howto

Ken,

Am I right in my assumption that private replies get sent to the
member's email regardless of their email settings? (I'm thinking of
members who have selected "no email").
Correct.

The subscription settings for Email Delivery and the Advanced Preferences apply only to group postings.

Re: spectrum and groups.io.

Mike,

I would call their tech support to ask. I have Roadrunner email, which
is now part of Spectrum. Long before the takeover of Time Warner
cable, I got into my email settings and changed the spam filter to
send me all the messages it thinks is spam to my inbox but mark it as
SPAM in the subject line. I don't get many of those but when I do,
most of the time it is spam, sometimes not.

There are settings in your Spectrum email account but I haven't been
in there for ages now. You might fish around in there and see what you
can find.

I don't remember being able to turn off the spam filter but I was
happy with getting all my messages, with suspect ones marked with SPAM
in the subject line. I'd check but I have an issue with logging into
that part of their site and don't want to reset any passwords since it
might mean I'll have to change my email password in multiple apps on
several devices.

I don't believe that there is, but I'll admit that I haven't looked very hard. Maybe your favorite search engine will turn up a help page or forum post.

Re: How does chat work?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Eric,

How about starting a new chat that we might use to road test the "chat" feature?

Let's not use GMF for testing.

Instead please use your own test group (or ) and report your findings back in GMF.

Mike,

what is the best provider that d does not do what spectrum does?
i am thinking of going with my own domaine, and having mail go through
there, but not sure.
I've been happy with Dreamhost as a private domain service (both web
pages and email). They're good in terms of promptly delivering all my
mail to me and that's one of my strictest criteria. One caveat: I use
Thunderbird to retrieve my mail from them, their webmail user interface
is (IMO) horrid.

Their spam filtering seems pretty good, not too much gets through and,
more importantly to me, very few good messages land in the Spam folder.
That's after some initial training, like many spam filters it "learns"
from you marking messages as spam or not spam.

One odd quirk (or at least it seems odd compared to services like gmail)
is that it keeps your Inbox limited. Older messages and too many
messages are automatically moved to your old-messages folder. This is
seldom a problem when using POP as you would most likely download and
delete from the server regularly - but could trip you up if you are a
member of some high-volume groups. When using IMAP you just get used to
not holding messages in the Inbox, moving messages between on-line and
off-line folders as needed.
