Our group is composed of members that are owners of a specific type of sailboat, and whenever we make a poll it usually is to ask questions about something specific pertaining to that sailboat. Feedback from people via a poll that do not own this type of sailboat, would not be relevant to our members, unless they had owned one of these sailboats in the past. Of course, people do join our group to learn about these sailboats, and to see if there any of them for sale. Once they pass the Pending Subscription part of joining, they can post after one moderated post¡and vote in a poll. Non-members are not allowed access into our group, but if we were a public group it wouldn¡¯t matter who posted or voted in a poll. ? Don ? |

A group Owner, or Moderator (with permission), controls if a Poll is created and what the choices are, which means a Poll is not necessarily unbiased. So having an option to limit which Subscribers/Members are permitted to vote is not a question of fairness. However the inability to allow all Subscribers/Members to vote is a restriction without merit.
?
BTW, I would think the most difficult thing might be to prevent any person from voting more than once (by having more than one subscribed email address), but I don¡¯t think anyone is suggesting that should be a feature.

Until a member posts at least one thing for me to approve, so I can try and determine they are not going to be a problem, they don¡¯t get to participate in polls or posting to the group.

A group used for announcements (only Moderators can post) might want to poll (all) their members

There are members who can post to the group. Maybe 15 or so of them.
The others settings are set that they cannot post. Do you have all the other members (besides the 15 you mentioned) set to "Override: not allowed to post?" Regards, Bruce? -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help ? |

Re: Why does OBO appear in posts?
I wrote a couple of days ago about this issue.? This morning I sent email to my group using a different email address (gmail) and it still came through? with 'Loopy via groups.io'?
I can understand it being the email provider in one case but in both email providers?? Other people in the group don't have these issues and yes I do see it as an issue. Loopy |

Display Name, Profile Fields and Member Directory
Hi Everyone,? ?I am a newbie here who has been suffering along with a few Google Groups and was stoked when I learned about Groups.io.? ?First impression was that it looked cleaner and seemed better designed - with a fairly impressive feature list.? ? I came to this forum and did a bunch of searches to see if it could do the three most important things to me.? ?Unfortunately, I seem to have gotten only two out of three things I wanted, but it is also possible that I missed something, got something wrong, or don't know about the workarounds. 1.? Display Name.? Everyone who has moderated a Google Group knows how awful it is when someone with the display name Xger72 makes a post - names like that are just not conducive to community building.? ?I was delighted when I learned Groups.io had addressed this - and who cares if the user can change it back - they probably won't and even if a few did it is something I could live with. 2.? Profile Fields.? The next thing I wanted was control over profile fields.? ?This was perplexing - I poked around the entire site and couldn't find a way to do that - just the strange few default fields.? The app seemed so sophisticated it seemed like it must be there somewhere - even more confusing because there was a complete database section - but I couldn't figure out a way to link them up.? Reading some forum posts seemed to confirm the disappointing news that there was no profile fields tool in Groups.io 3.? Member Directory.? ?The last thing I wanted was a really good member directory, which I think is integral to the community.? Naturally I originally hoped to be able to display any of the profile fields I had added in any order but with that not possible hoped it was at least a good directory where any member could be contacted.? I was disappointed to learn that members could "opt out" of having their profile in the directory, and what is far worse the defaults were set so the profile would not be visible.? ?What's worse, the developers, in discussing this used language like "users being forced to use the directory".? No more than being forced to register for the service in the first place - I know I can't be the only one who considers the directory to be an integral part of the community.? Unless I am missing something - and I hope I am - this is a major bummer. So that's my initial take.? Not quite "shoot from the hip" because I did try to do some research first but if I got anything wrong please let me know - and also let me know if there are any workarounds or integrations to help with these issues, or if they are being planned as features in future releases.? Thank you ? |

subscribing to calendar issues
I have a very full and not-public calendar that our members would like to subscribe to. We seem to be having lots of issues. I hope someone can make some suggestions that might help or point me to a help page...
My members who use android phones are not able to subscribe to the calendar from their?google calendar. Does the groups.io calendar have to be public for them to subscribe? They are able to subscribe to other calendars. My members who use cozi?can subscribe but only some of the events show up. For members who can subscribe from their google calendar, the group.io calendar recently just disappeared. It is still visible on ical. The members who subscribe using ical can see all events except one.? Please help, things were working fine and now they are not and my members are getting frustrated! Thank you! Paige Loter |

How to display time of posting
A member in my group asked this question: Can the time be displayed on the messages posted??
Before I answer, I have done a bit of research and found that on the email client I use, the time is always displayed. I don't know how other client programs handle this. However, when looking at posts using the web browser (I use Chrome; others may handle this differently), the time of the posts are only displayed for the current calendar day. Posts from previous days only show the date.? I vaguely recall this topic being discussed before in this group, but I couldn't find it using the search function.? Is there a way to force the time of posting to display on all messages? Am I missing a setting? Or is this something I should take to the beta list? Dave |
