Re: Removed because of spam report

Does this link also add them back to subgroups?

Subgroup Direct Add

I have looked, and I'm probably blind, but......
For a direct add in the main group (premium), I see the boilerplate email that is sent that we can customize, but in the subgroup we are supposed to set up a member notice with a type of Direct Add in order to customize the email - at least from what I can find searching GMF.??

In the subgroup I have added an active member notice with the type of Direct Add, but it isn't being included in the email.? What step did I miss?
Thanks
Beth

Re: Removed because of spam report

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

What does the "unsubbed" person have to do after they go to the automatically generated link?
Or,does the link automatically re subscribe the person?

?

I had this a couple of times in my group. Generally Yahoo mail addresses were concerned. The person just clicks the mail gio sends and is back in.

Re: Owner not showing up on member list

Maureen,

Does Groups.io think I am two different people??

Yes, that is exactly the case.

Each email address used at Groups.io is tied to its own Groups.io account, and has its own set of subscriptions.

As I look at the page, I am at the top right of the screen with one email and on the Members list with another email.?

In your case you have two subscriptions in the group, using two different email addresses. One of them is a group Owner (the one that created the group) and the other isn't (the one copied in from Y!Groups). When you're logged in using the Owner address you'll see an Owner badge on the Home page button for your group:

Both addresses should appear in the in the Members list, but only the Owner one should appear in the Moderators list. The default sort for the Members list is by joined date, most recent at the top. The address that created the group would then be at the end of the list. T
o make it easier to find the Owner address in the Members list you can click on the Joined column header to reverse the sort order, or click on one of the other column headers, or use the Search box.

Will things get more confusing if I delete myself with the unwanted Yahoo! email and re-invite myself using the Owner email?

The email address listed as an owner is already a member and doesn't need to be re-invited to the group, so I'm a little confused by that part of your question.

Removing the Y!Mail address would be the simplest way to clarify things, but it has some downsides.

That subscription owns the content (Files and Photos) transferred over from Y!Group under its address. As a group owner your other address can edit and delete that content anyway, so that isn't such a big deal. If you were a mere member of the group you might be more interested in retaining your ability to edit or delete those items.

There is a vulnerability if your group has only one account listed as Owner, if something happens to that account. If you've not promoted anyone else in the group to Owner position, and you're not yet ready to do so, you might rather promote the subscription of your Y!Mail address to the Owner role so that the group has two Owners. That still leaves the group vulnerable because there's only one person behind those two Owner subscriptions, but at least it is safe from some kind of problem with one of the two accounts.

If receiving group messages at both addresses is annoying, you can always set one of them to No Email, and uncheck all of its Moderator Notices. As owner you can do that through the Members list by clicking on the row for that subscription. Or, you can use the Subscription page to edit the subscription of whichever email address you are currently logged in with.

Re: Owner not showing up on member list

Hi Shal and Bruce,

We have no subgroups so I am looking at the primary Members list.? I am the owner/moderator.? I am listed at the upper right of the screen with the email address I used to create my Groups.io account.? I am listed under the "Moderators" tab of the Members page under Admin>Members as Owner.

Sorry, I should have given more details and worded my question a bit differently.? When the group was created I imported a list of members from our abandoned Yahoo! Group.? I was on that list of people, BUT I was using a different email for the Yahoo! Group.? So, actually I am on the primary Members list, but this different email address is attached to it.? I am unable to change that address on Groups.io to the one listed at the top of the screen because I get a message that the email is already in use.? I am getting messages on both email accounts.? As I look at the page, I am at the top right of the screen with one email and on the Members list with another email.? It's becoming confusing as the group gets busier.

Any thoughts?? Does Groups.io think I am two different people?? Will things get more confusing if I delete myself with the unwanted Yahoo! email and re-invite myself using the Owner email?? Help!

Thanks again,
Maureen

Yes. In fact, this is something I encourage all members to do when they
send an e-mail directly to another member, and I see other people do it
as well, although the tag I usually see is "PRIV" or "(private)".

This is because you don't know what the recipient's mail rule is. If he
filters on subject line (which is the easiest to set up), and you leave
the subject line intact, your mail will arrive in the same folder as all
other group mails and he might ignore it or consider it a message sent
to the group.

In my opinion, the term "off-list" is netizen jargon that may not be
understood by everyone (or... well you can think of all the ways in
which it can be misunderstood). That said, once the user understands
what the term means, it's the most accurate one to use.

Re: off-list message to the member

Don,

What is an "off-list message"?
A message that was not posted to the group. Or more
specifically a message to one or more group members
that is not posted to the group as a whole.

how do you send?
There are several ways.
. . . . .

Just a comment about off-list messages.

I always put OFF LIST in the front of the subject line so the recipient understands that the message is only to them. If one replies to a message on the group and then just sends it to one person it may not be immediately obvious that it's an off-list reply.

Re: Email Address showing

Loopy,

In the last week or 2, mail I send through my?IO group?is coming from 'Loopy Via Groups.Io'.? It has always come? just showing 'Loopy' so what is?this via business?

That's how some email interfaces show when a message is passed through a mailing list. It is telling the recipient that your message was delivered to his/her service by , rather than directly from your email service.

Nothing has changed in my group or in my personal info so how do I get rid of this?

I don't think you can get rid of it.

It seems that your email service has published a DMARC policy of quarantine - which is causing Groups.io to rewrite the From address in messages you post. This wasn't true six months ago (the last time you posted in GMF) so perhaps this is the recent change you are noticing.

Or maybe your email service published that DMARC policy some time ago, and your email interface made a recent change to now show the "via" information.

I can see why they might not be visible if set to Strip or Bounce. However, if they are really invisible when set to Moderate, that strikes me as a bug.

I can think of no reason why you should not be present. Go to Admin>Members. On the resulting screen, pull down the blue "Members" menu at top left and select "Moderators." With the list of records thus restricted you should be able to find yourself.

If you cannot get to Admin>Members then you either don't have Owner permissions or you aren't logged in.
?
Hope this helps,

Re: Owner not showing up on member list

Maureen,

I am the owner of a group.? Why do I not show up on the member list?

If you're looking at the Members list of a subgroup, you may be an implicit owner of the subgroup, rather than formally a member of it. If you want to see yourself in the subgroup, go to the primary group and find yourself in the Subgroups page (the one in your primary group's Admin pages). Put a checkmark in your row, in the column for that subgroup.

If you're looking at the Members list of a primary group, then I'm not sure how you could be missing, unless you're not looking for the address under which you actually own the group.

LOL. I guess I missed that possibility.

However, when set to Bounce, Strip, or Moderate, the Emailed Photos Album is not displayed, although the attachments storage still shows the same size.

Good question.

I'm sure the storage remains the same because the images are not retroactively deleted when you change the setting. And I would argue that they shouldn't be.

However I think it would be fair to call this a bug, because the Emailed Photos Album ought to be shown whenever it is not empty, rather than being hidden by control of the group setting.

There are several ways.

As moderator or member, if you've collected the email address of the desired member(s) in your email interface you can of course send messages directly to them off-list rather than sending to the group's posting address.

The following on-site methods don't require that you know the desired member's email address in advance. Your email address will be included in the off-list message you send, and theirs will be on any message they send back to you in reply:

Each group's Settings page has a Reply To option under Message Policies. If this is set to Sender then the default behavior of the group is for replies to be sent off-list to the message sender. That controls replies by email as well as replies through the Reply link under messages on site.

If the group's Reply To is set to Group, and the Remove Other Reply Options box is not checked, then when you reply on site to a message there's a Private button (initially grey, over to the right) which you can click to change the green Reply to Group button to a blue Reply to Sender button instead.

If the group allows members to see the group directory, and if the person you wish to contact has made their profile available in the directory, then there's a blue Email button on their profile which you can use to send an email to that member off-list. If you're a moderator you can see that for all members.

If you're a moderator of the group and can access the Members list then you can check the box for one or more members and use the blue Actions menu at the bottom of the list to Send Message to the selected member(s). Or you can open a member's page and there's a blue Send Message button at the bottom.

Re: subgroup creation fails?

Your main group needs to be approved before you can add subgroups. I went through this when I created my group.?

Re: Attached Picture Not In Emailed Photos.

Edited

Please ignore my previous message if you've read it.

I just found the actual cause of the behavior. In the Settings, when my Attachments is set to "Allow", I can see the Emailed Photos Album. However, when set to Bounce, Strip, or Moderate, the Emailed Photos Album is not displayed, although the attachments storage still shows the same size.
Is this a bug to be fixed, or an expected behavior?

Re: Forward Invitation?

Charlie at Duke

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

A better approach is to ask the teacher to forward your group's website address (or the "+subscribe" email address) to the other families.

An invitation sent to A is customized for A; a reply from A, not B, is expected.? If B replies instead, I would hope that the invitation would be rejected or ignored.? Failure to do that would be a security issue for A (and potentially for B) and a compromise of the entire group.
