Re: Polls !

I am lost.
I can see how to delete the poll. There is an option to do that.
But i cannot for the life of me figure out how to close the poll.?
When I select the Edit poll, I get only these choices Moderate, Locked, Sticky

There is nothing else there. So what do I select to close the poll.

Re: Question regarding subgroups #subgroups

In a subgroup, the Files (along with Photos, Databases, Wiki, and Calendar) all seem to be separate from the main group, though they do count against the main group storage.

Re: request for information

It doesn't look like that's possible.? On the Help page, under hashtags, it says "only moderators and owners can send Special Notices."? I think there was some discussion about this on beta@ awhile back.

Re: People disappearing from group?

David,

Both claim not to have unsubscribed, and there is nothing in the
Activity log to show them unsubscribing.
There shouldn't be a circumstance where a member leaves or is removed from a group or subgroup without that action being logged in the group or subgroup. So that's something I'd report to [email protected]
As is often the case, writing up a bug report makes you look at seemingly-unrelated things. It turns out to be a timing issue and a facet of being a moderator. A moderator of a main group can send messages to a subgroup they are not a member of, so it might appear they are a member, but not really.

We learn something new very day..... :-)

Cheers

David

Question regarding subgroups #subgroups

I belong to a group that shares a nationwide technical focus and has a number of common files. But smaller areas have their own local discussions and have some files of localized data used only in their areas. Can subgroups have their own Files area, or do they all use the main group Files area?

is there a way to allow sending special announcements by members not just owner or moderator?? ?Would like the ability of all members to send message to all other members overriding their email options.? an example of this capability would be reporting a forest fire or an emergency situation? that should be delivered immediately to all members.

On the Invite page, it will have a list of invitations sent and whether they've been accepted, unless you cleaned up that page.? If so, you can look in the Activity Log on either the All Activity or Moderator Activity page, select Invited Member for the Action, then Search.? You'd need to search for Accepted Invitation? to see if it was accepted.? I don't believe the errors are logged though.

I'd take a serious look at the settings for the group to make sure nothing was changed.? All of my groups are working fine, so it's not something that has changed on the site.

Re: Invite Function: GIO says "Invalid email address" after invites processed

As of TODAYthey were good email addresses.
Turns out Toby gave the right answer. And I was creating a iD ten T error. :)
If it is an EMAIL ADDRESS ONLY then DO NOT PUT "<>" parenthesis or whatever you call them
if its a NAME & EMAIL then its "JOE BLO <joebloe@...>

Hit me like a bolt of lightning after sending out ?"my problem" to GMF.
And the instructions are right above the email address input field. Sometimes I need a police beacon to get my attention. (needless to say, my websites are quite colorful)

What is a real bummer, I have been doing this for weeks wondering why. And I did not record or keep those email invites anywhere.,,,UNLESS...
The Invite function records actions and errors somewhere?

Are they clicking on the VOTE button after making a choice?? That's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Impossible Addresses on Replies to an Email List

¡°[email address] [PublishingDC]" <PublishingDC@...>
The address above was for the person who first posted the message. It remained on the replies so everyone thought the first person was author of them all. And whenever I try to send a new message to <PublishingDC@...> the email of this person is added even when I start a new thread

[email name]@...>

Individual addresses from Yahoo, Me, and Mac

"[email protected] Calendar" <[email protected]>
At some point I received a message from this list that included ¡°Calendar¡±. Now all responses go to that address. I have to go through my previous recipients and remove them from the list.

How do we protest this? Any chance of a change?

* <kirbygray@...>: Invalid email address
* <w5rex2@...>: Invalid email address
Using the invite function I keep getting LOTS of "Invalid email address" after submitting. But, these are KNOWN good addresses.

WHEN were they known to be good addresses? In the distant past or very recently? If not very recently, you might want to try sending mail to them from your own email address, not from Groups.io, and see what happens.

Re: Invite Function: GIO says "Invalid email address" after invites processed

Gary,

If the email is by itself on the line, then the "<" and ">" characters must not be included.

Thanks
Toby

According to Mark, non-members (or not logged in members) will always see fig-leafed addresses in a public archive.? I haven't verified it, but if true, that should minimize the problem.

Invite Function: GIO says "Invalid email address" after invites processed

  • <en5rp@...>: Invalid email address
  • <kirbygray@...>: Invalid email address
  • <w5rex2@...>: Invalid email address
Hello All,
Please Note: The above addresses have been altered to protect the invitees and are no longer real addresses, other than a few letter changes
the addresses are as submitted.?

Using the invite function I keep getting LOTS of "Invalid email address" after submitting.?
Several get processed, some have already subscribed. But, these are KNOWN good addresses.?
Is there a "block" function for the receiver that possibly activitated that previously when being invited? Are their servers blocking it?
Have their emails been reported BAD back to groups.io previously? have they clicked the spam button and kicking back the invites?
It seems fairly random, but very frequent. I have read and re-read the addresses and copied, cleaned and pasted back in with the same results.

Am I getting dyslexic, sloppy and blind? Am I missing something? ?
Or is there something else at work here that I am not aware of ?

Please advise.

How can I ensure that the entire email address is included.
Go to Admin->Settings->Privacy. Pull down the Hide Email Addresses in Archives menu and select what you want ("do not mask email addresses in the archives").

If you group is an open one, think hard before doing this, as it can become a spam magnet for your subscribers.

IIRC, the domain information is not hidden in the actual emails forwarded by groups.io. But frankly, I've just gotten into the habit of writing addresses as myaccount(at)domain(dot)tld
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce
