a list member having trouble unsubscribing
I got a note from a member of one of my lists today. She says she was trying to unsubscribe, but that the unsubscribe website makes it impossible because it demands agreement to the cookies before pushing the unsubscribe “leave group” option. I'm not quite sure what this means. I'm assuming she is referring to the unsubscribe link that comes with every message. However, I've never tried to unsubscribe so I don't really know what happens when you do that. In any case I would probably have my browser already accepting cookies from the Groups.io web site so I wouldn't see any message about them.
Has anyone else run into something like this? I went ahead a removed her from the list, but I figured I would ask in case this comes up again sometime. Jonathan |

Re: Wiki
Tom,
Can the same thing be done with a PDF?While I'm certain you can copy the text of a PDF from Adobe Reader or your web browser or whatever application you use, and paste it into the edit for a group wiki page, I'm far less confident about the formatting and any embedded images. Also, PDF pages are like cut sheets of paper - each having a specific size for printing. Whereas wiki pages, like HTML pages, are more like scrolls of arbitrary length. Things like having running text in multiple columns is possible in Word and PDF, but basically foreign to wiki and web pages. So I'd say that while you can get the text there, by hook or by crook, you might be faced with a lot of reformatting work depending on the formatting features used in the PDF file. Re: Displaying HTML/XML code in message archive?
Brendan,
Content such as this:Looks the same to me in both Thunderbird and in GMF's page: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/11529 Looking at the View Source of your message I notice that it is heavily styled, including adding its own style definitions. In the Message Formatting section of your group's Settings page there are the "Force HTML Emails", the "Normalize HTML Emails", and the "Plain Text Only" options, none of which are checked in GMF. These may affect the rendering of text, but really shouldn't cause a misinterpretation of text for code, if that's what you're seeing. In any case, the rendering of messages (and wiki pages) on Groups.io's web site "sanitizes" the HTML code to protect against elements like script or iframe which might be used in exploits. Sometimes that cleaning is over-aggressive and removes style elements that are innocent. So in a heavily styled message such as yours it is possible that the cleaning is affecting the presentation. This message is plain text, so we'll see if that's part of the issue. It appears that the “Message Formatting” section of the settings pageI believe that both "Normalize HTML Emails", and "Plain Text Only" operate on the inbound message, and should affect both the email and web formatting. Re: Closing the Yahoo group

Hello Barbara,
?
We had the same situation with our relict Yahoo group after moving to GIO.
?
What I did was change the message in the masthead photo on the main page to say that we had moved to GIO and to come see us there.??But I left the YGroup in place as a signpost to our new GIO group.
?
Well at first that didn't stop a few of the die-hard members from trying to post on the old YGroup so I changed it so that all posts would have to be approved by a moderator AND I also posted a message to the group titled, 'This is the Final Post to CRL' in which I announced (yet again) that we had moved and provide a URL to the new GIO group.
?
Now in the very rare case that someone tries to post to the old YGroup I get an alert that there is a post needing approval.??Then I reject the post and include??a note giving directions to the member for where to join us on GIO.
?
We have been moved now since the end of June of this year and the posts to the old group have all stopped now.
?
I'd suggest just leaving your old YGroup in place as a signpost to your new GIO group but set the old one as inactive so that no one can post to it.
?
Cheers!

Re: Closing the Yahoo group
No need to ‘close it down completely’. In the groups I moved I: -updated the YahooGroups Group Description page (“About") to announce the move and URL of the new Groups.io -put everyone on Moderation (including myself) to prevent new posts on YahooGroups -turned off YahooGroups Notifications for everyone except myself -sent out a YahooGroups Special Notice (re)announcing the move, the new URL, and the new posting address -sent out a Groups.io Special Notice announcing the move, the new URL, and the new posting address Occasionally someone tries to post to the old YahooGroup, when I get the notification: - I 'reject their message and reply’ through the YahooGroup reminding them of the move and new posting address - check that they were moved to Groups.io - sometimes follow up with a message direct to them Keep the old YahooGroups - they are a ‘backup’ archive, in case you discover something missing in the move, e.g. YahooGroups has an Attachments folder in Files, Groups.io does not move Attachments from YahooGroups. YahooGroups Attachments must be downloaded and then uploaded to Groups.io Files one by one, which changes the ‘ownership’ of the attachment/file if not done by the sender of the attachment. BTW, Groups.io does keep Attachments attached to Groups.io Messages, which requires posters to use a good Subject line to make it easy to locate, and/or Moderation to Edit, Save & Approval Messages to correct Subject lines. |

Re: Closing the Yahoo group
If it was my group, I would reject every pending message with a standard reply saying that the group has moved and they should resubscribe and resend. Also post one final message there with words to that effect. On Mon, Sep 3, 2018 at 04:22 PM, Barbara Howard wrote:

Hello,
Many thanks for previous help with the move to Groups.io which I and members are happy with. However, I have noticed that our Yahoo group still exists and one or two members have unwittingly posted there. Is it time to close it down completely or will this just happen in due course without input from me? If it's up to me, then how do I go about it?

Displaying HTML/XML code in message archive?
开云体育Hi all, ? We are a technical standards body and in the process of our work we quite often use XML and/or HTML in our messages. ? We’ve just moved some of our lists over from Yahoo Groups to groups.io and while it has worked very well in the most part, members have noticed that XML or HTML included in messages is not displayed in the web view. ? Content such as this: ? <a_made_up_xml_element new_attribute=”new_value”> ??? <another_made_up_xml_tag /> </a_made_up_xml_element> ? … is formatted properly in emails, but not in the group’s message archive. ? It appears that the “Message Formatting” section of the settings page only changes the format of emailed messages, and we don’t have a problem with those. ? Is this a bug or is there a setting that I’m missing? ? Thanks, ? Re: Hotmail delivery
Yes, my question was about Hotmail, if other group owners were experiencing non-delivery of supposedly queued emails to hotmail users. One of our hotmail subscribers has had no delivery of groups.io emails for a week even though his delivery history shows a 2xx Queued response. Also because a web search reveals that other email lists/ have reported permanent non-delivery of message traffic supposedly queued by hotmail with the 2xx code.

I have since contacted two other of our hotmail subscribers who report normal email traffic from the group. At this point have no idea why the particular user above has no delivery of our group messages for a week.;they are not in his spam folder. But the problem is apparently limited to him. Re: Wiki
Sharon,
It is in HTML pages along with any attachments in whatever form theyIf you can open those pages in your browser, you can probably copy each from that browser window and them paste it into a blank group wiki page. If that doesn't work you could try opening the pages in notepad (or another plain text editor) and then in he group wiki page editor switch to Source Code mode and paste in the raw HTML code. One potential problem is that Groups.io's wiki may not (probably does not) support all of the HTML formatting elements that those pages contained. So you may have a fair amount of clean-up to do depending on how fancy the original pages were. Another problem would be the attachments. If they are images you can use the Add Image button to insert them. If they are something else I'm not sure what you can do. Maybe host the file somewhere and provide a link to it on the wiki page. If your group's wiki is available only to group members you could put the attachment in your group's files section and link to it from the wiki. It isn't as easy to as it should be though, for lack of a permalink on the files.
