Re: database help
#howtoguide
Terry,
I want to import an existing Excel file into the database of my group. As I recall the secret handshake is to create the table with column names that exactly match the text of (and perhaps the order of) the names in the header row of the csv file. As if that was obvious. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

stopthethyroidmadness,
And yes, with my new io group, I do have a response sent to them as aGroups.io does as well - it is listed on your group's home page with the other group email addresses. There are two differences versus Yahoo Groups, one trivial the other less so. The trivial difference is that it is spelled groupname+owner rather than groupname-owner. The less trivial difference is that you have (each mod and owner has) a setting in your Subscription page that controls whether +owner messages are forwarded to you. You can choose "All Emails" (which is the same as Y!Groups function), "Subscribers Only" or "None". I generally recommend that at least one owner or mod in each group accept +owner messages from "All Emails" - just so that pending members and others trying to join the group can reach someone. I am having a challenge figuring this out. Yes, with my Yahoo group, they are required to prove why they are qualified to join the group...and they use a field to do so.? And yes, with my new io group, I do have a response sent to them as a pending member. But do I have to give my email to all pending members?? At least Yahoo has an "Owner email" to use that protects the privacy of my email.? ? |

Where do I go that will require a new member request to include a message from them as to why they are qualified to join???

Milt,
BigTent responded saying that they will not take action on requestsI'm confused. From yesterday's post I thought you already had a response - and a very positive one at that! /g/GroupManagersForum/message/11476 I had meant to reply to that message but hadn't gotten to it yet. So I guess now's the time. The dump was in .tgz format, and our tech guru, Bob Leder,Presumably they're showing as From Bob, and with the date he ran the program. Did he include the original poster's name and the original date in his (program's) messages? In any case though, bravo! It seems to me that something of the sort could be done with messages caught in any proprietary format - such as a PG Offline export of a Yahoo Group, or an mbox export from a Mailman list, or ... BigTent responded saying that they will not take action on requests from anyone other than the current moderator of a group, so we will funnel our request through the current moderator.? I'll do a post here on any response we receive.

Re: Transfer help
Thanks Mark and Don! Reading what you both experienced, I decided to try the transfer start a 4th time. And, thankfully, it worked! So, I must conclude that either the site was busy and my request did not go through because of that, or perhaps I tried to initiate the transfer too soon after the new group was approved.? I had received the email notifying me of the approval, and the new group name was in the drop-down menu, but maybe there is some minimum time I did not achieve between approval and initiating a transfer. Again, my thanks to you both! Patti On Friday, August 31, 2018, 9:34:34 PM EDT, Mark Emmer <marke@...> wrote:

Transfer help
Hello! I have successfully transitioned 3 Yahoo groups. I am now attempting to do a 4th, and seem to be having a problem.? I went to the start transfer page, and entered the info for the old group name and the new group name, click begin transfer process, and nothing happens! I am a bit worried, since the Yahoo group name contains an underscore as part of the name, and when I created the new group it did not like that, so I had to take it out in order to create the new group. A general word on attachment policy. Why would anyone want to ban attachments? In addition to criminals deliberately trying to infect us, we have the innocent, unsuspecting (and ignorant) subscribers who become infected via that cute "fill in the blank" forwarded by "Aunt Sally"... who runs every attachment and clicks every link that anyone sends her. As with some other things in life, it's not just what's in front of us... it's ALL the things received and possibly clicked on by the person who sent the ONE thing that's in front of us. Jim H |
