Moving folders within subgroups #folders #files #howto

Is there an easy way to move folders and all its contained files from a subgroup to the main group, or between subgroups?

Alternatively, how does one download an entire folder without having to download each individual file?

Thanks for the help!

Phil

Re: How to display messages newest first?

On the messages page, click on Date at the upper right.

No, there are hundreds of GMF members with .net domains, largely verizon.net but comcast and others too. So that of itself is not the problem.
It is possible that Groups.io has a block on that domain if it had been troublesome in the past, but I'd more likely suspect some syntactical error to get "Invalid email" as the error. You may need to report it to [email protected] to find out what the problem is.

I don't approve memberships with email addresses at mypacks.net. It's a service that provides anonymous, disposable email addresses. And while not "black hat," it has more association with spam than the average email provider.

How to display messages newest first?

I can find no way to display messages with the newest at the top of the list.
How to change it to that?

Re: Moderators not getting emails #groupowner #messages

Bob,

I am cc'd on my Board of Director emails that I send out from one of my gmail addounts to several others but always include myself.
And I always receive it back to the same gmail account.

In conversation mode Gmail will normally show you the message you sent, not the message that came back. When you turn conversation mode off (as I do) your sent message appears only in the Sent folder, not also in the Inbox, so the appearance is that you don't receive your own messages back.

With a mailing list you can usually tell the difference by the footers and other changes the mailing list makes. With a cc you might have to look at the View Source to see if the message you see went and came back again. Although I suppose it is also possible that Gmail makes an exception for cc'd messages - they could tell that you intended to receive it back.
Could it be some sort of special "gmail glitch" in ?

No, this has been a FAQ on Yahoo Groups and other list services for ages.

The technical detail is that Gmail matches the Message-ID of the received message with the one in your Sent folder and hides the "duplicate". The work-around at Groups.io is to replace the Message-ID when sending your group post back to you.

Debbie,

I have tried to invite her but I got the error as well. ? The error is 'Invalid email' but I can send her an email from my personal email and it works fine. ? Is there any reason a particular ISP or email address that is not .com is not valid?

Re: Individuals email gets an error

Debbie,
Hmm, that email address 'mypacks.net' appears to be used for anonymous email for EarthLink users, called "Protection Pack"? see ->?
That might have something to do with it.? I'd suggest emailing support with a screen shot of the error and have Mark take a look.
Thanks
Toby

Re: Can't subscribe to calendar of group I own

I am subscribed to our group calendar and events show up in my Google calendar.? Sync may take a bit of time.? What error are you getting?? What personal calendar are you using?
You should be able to take the iCalendar URL and open it in a browser, download the feed.ics file and view it.? Does that work?
Thanks
Toby

Re: Delete tables/Databases #howto

Got it -- just hadn't gone far enough in the "Edit Table"

Thanks so much.

Re: Moderators not getting emails #groupowner #messages

Ken,

It sure would be nice to have them echoed back or an option to have them echoed back as a verification that they were sent to the other owners/moderators.

I believe that Groups.io does forward them to all mods/owners, including the sender when that is one of the mods/owners. Subject to the individual mod/owner's Owner Email Subscription setting of course.

The situation you face is (I think) slightly different than Gary's. Where Gmail accepts but hides messages that you sent upon their return (as from an email list or forwarding) Outlook has been reported to reject such messages outright. The logic being that it must be a forgery if it claims to be From your address but was delivered to them by another service (Groups.io). For this case a different work-around would be required - Groups.io would need to replace the From field with one that isn't your email address.

If you receive your own group postings back at Outlook that would imply that Groups.io has implemented some work-around, or convinced Outlook to "play nice" with group postings, to overcome the problem that was reported earlier (Outlook users seeing their own messages in their Bounce history).

Delete tables/Databases #howto

We have just converted our group from Yahoo.? (I am the owner)

We have databases that get set up about every two months for the purposes of our members to enter data.

So, now we have a multitude of old databases on groups.io that I would like to delete.? But I can't see how to do that -- is it some admin setting I am missing?

Thanks in advance.

Linda

Can't subscribe to calendar of group I own

Jeff ErnstFriedman

I am the owner of a group and can't subscribe to the calendar in the subgroup I created

Permissions are the calendar should be public.

Any thoughts

Re: Moderators not getting emails #groupowner #messages

Gary,

It appears that I didn't receive the email to main+owner because I was the sender.
?
Gmail strikes again.

I guess it would be a reasonable suggestion (on beta) to have the gmail work-around (the I always want copies of my own messages checkbox in your account profile) apply to +owner messages as well as group postings. Kind of an edge case, but it trips me up from time to time (and makes me glad I have a second email address as moderator on my groups).

Thanks for posting this. I had wondered why I haven't seen my main+owner post sent back to me. It sure would be nice to have them echoed back or an option to have them echoed back as a verification that they were sent to the other owners/moderators.

Ok, I got it worked out. It appears that I didn't receive the email to
main+owner because I was the sender. I sent an email from my work account
and it showed up in very short order. Sorry to bother anyone, but I hope this
may save someone else from having to post this same issue.

Moderators not getting emails #groupowner #messages

I am a moderator of a group which I started as owner and then, once ownership was established by the co-op subscription, my status was changed from owner to moderator. I have verified that, as moderator, I am set to receive all emails sent to main+owner, but I'm not receiving them. I have checked the owner email account and the message got through to that account but not to my email, as moderator. Is there a built-in delay that anyone knows of? Or is there another setting that could be interfering with me receiving these emails?

Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to change all member of a group to receive no attachments, unless they change it?

As Shal noted, you can set up a new-subscription default in the Default Sub Settings.

To disable attachments on behalf of individual members (like the one who wants to quit), open Admin>Members and click on that member's name, and then scroll down and click on the Advanced Preferences and change the Max Attachment Size to zero.

Note that in doing so, (s)he will instead receive a hyperlink to the attachment. If the hyperlink is also objectionable, the only way to disable that is to disable attachments for the whole group.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?
