How to tell if a post is a special notice?

Is there a way to tell in the archive whether a post was sent as a special notice?
?
Thanks!

Re: A website that uses the domain name of our group

There are lots of recent top-level domain names (like .com, .edu, .org). I'm fond of .xyz, which seems pleasantly unevocative?of anything except confusion. You might be able to find one you like if you look down .

While you can't use "<> as your domain, you are free to register your own domain, "<YourGroupName.xxx>" where xxx is com, net, org, etc. as you select.

There's no linking.? You could either enter the information from the forms or allow members to enter the information on their own line of a database, depending on what you need.? If you have them enter it into the db, you can set it so they could edit their own row or all rows.

Groupsio Forms?

Can I make a form that is located in Files--- that links to a Database? ? I need to create a form that is filled in by my team and then captured on a database. ?Something like Google Forms.

This may be one of those cases where the fix only works going forward.? You could try editing the event again to see if that helps.

Thanks, Duane. I checked that article before posting, but am not seeing any change in our events from their bugfix of 7 days ago. Seems as if the bug is still there.

Google Calendar Sync NEVER shows Groups.io Calendar Changes

I know there's been discussion in her about delays in Google synching its calendar, but this goes beyond a day or week. It's been a month since our group (FictionRiders) changed our meeting dates (for one month only), and Google Calendar (synched) still shows the original dates.
Is this something that should be addressed to Google instead?

Re: INOS - SPAM

The IONOS domain name is being used by hackers phishing to get your bank account information. I have several IONOS accounts and know what I order/pay for, so when these come in, I got whois.com and enter the first IP address of the sender (you have to go the full message headers to get that). Most of them are coming from out-of-country so there's no value in reporting the attemps, but those that are within the US (and probably Canada) are worth pursuing, i.e., reporting as spam/phishing to their domain provider (which is NOT Ionos) or blocking as a spammer.

I haven't found a way.? The alternative that I see is to not include those, as long as there's an identifier for each member.? Display Name may not be the best since several people can have the same one.? I'd use something unique to each member.

Databases on our free Group.

I suspect I know the answer but, some of our group are desirous to know it!
?
The members add their information into a database which includes, amongst other elements, their firstnames and surnames and are able to view the entire database but only the row owner and moderators can edit it.
?
The question is: Is it possible to prevent group members from viewing the firstnames and surnames of the membership but still view the remainder of the data?

You can choose the Event color when creating it, but it defaults to a light blue.? I believe one person has a wiki page defining what the various colors mean on their group and asks members to use the appropriate one for events.

Yes. If you include a #hashtag in the Event Name field when creating a calendar event, it will then show up in the subject line of any associated notifications.
?
If you allow regular members (non-Moderators) to create calendar events be sure to also allow them to create hashtags.

I can see there are colours but they are quite random, it's not like you see what a colour 'means'.

I would exercise caution here. Creating a similar-looking name is a favorite way for malware organizations to capture unsuspecting victims. They stand up a website that looks like the real thing, but with content that's laced with "bad stuff". By creating a similar-named site, you're potentially encouraging the bad guys to do the same. More likely, you'll be preventing folks who are aware of this attack from visiting your site out of fear that it's not real.

My opinion, the best approach would be to create the website with a proper, easily distinguished name, and include links on that page back to your Groups account. On Groups, include links to the website in a pinned post or similar. Cross link the two with actual links, not through the site names. The name of the Groups account can certainly be part of the website name, if it's available, but leave the groups.io part out.

Re: A website that uses the domain name of our group

To be clear, I would not include the words "groups" or "groups.io" ?in your website domain name.?
?
Mark Fletcher (or his company) owns @groups.io
And it would be unwieldy and confusing. Not good marketing for your business, activity, interest or topic.
?
In my example, I suggested www. broccoli. com for the website.
I see in this domain name search that the name is taken already.?
?
Ownership is not possible with a domain name. Domain names are registered, and this registration entitles the registrant to use the domain. ?For info about choosing a domain name and making sure your registration doesn't lapse, see

Re: A website that uses the domain name of our group

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

No one can use the domain that is owned by someone else.?

I think there may be confusion as to what portion of the group is domain vs group name vs email address.

?

FOR EXAMPLE

The online service is named groups.io ¨C that is their domain name and the website you can visit

?

You could have a group named: HappyRabbits

When you go to that online using a browser, you are going to the URL: groups.io/g/happyrabbits (with more after that if you click on Messages or other sections)

?

When you send an email, you are using the email address: [email protected]

?

Now you want to create a website for the people of HappyRabbits.

You cannot use the domain groups.io as that is owned by them. So you cannot make happyrabbits.groups.io (they would have to host your website and they do not offer that service)

?

If you try to use anything with ¡°groups.io¡± in it, instead of being more familiar, that would only make the website location longer & more confusing.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Let¡¯s say you are able to license a domain ¡°happyrabbits.org¡±

That is clean and simple

If you add more to it, groupsio/happyrabbits.org ¨C just too much to remember.

?

I¡¯ve not consumed all my coffee so corrections to above are welcome.

Subject: [GMF] A website that uses the domain name of our group

Hi -

One of the many groups that I'm an owner of wants to put up a website.? Is there a way that we can use the domain name of our group (<groupname>.groups.io) for our URLs?? (We're not looking to Groups.io to host the pages, since I believe that to be beyond the scope of the services provided, just have the domain be consistent with our group's.)

?

You can't use the groups.io domain because it's taken (by groups.io).

What you can do is link from the group's website to the groups.io
discussion forum and from the main page of the discussion forum to the
group's website, perhaps also making one post a sticky post with a
link from the groups.io discussion forum to the group's website.

That way, you could host pictures, articles, and other information on
your group's website and use groups.io only for your discussions.
