Problem with email address when published
Hello In edit mode, I have an email address that displays fine: Thanks PS Please don't be worried that my name and the email name is different. I'm publishing this message on behalf of another owner in the group. |

Hi - is there anyway of determining whether a member has logged onto the group - taken a look around at what is going on - made no changes/made no postings/downloaded nothing - just looked around and then signed off ? In this way by having this feature, I could probably determine the interest of the sillent majority - barry?

I have ONE g.io list whose posts I often don't get. I figured this out when I'd get a digest that had replies to stuff I hadn't seen. I finally also subscribed to a sock-puppet gmail address I use for such things, so now I see the posts and often reply using the web UI.
My mailboxes are on Cox still, and they do a lot of rate-limiting; the mystery is why just that list. It's not high-volume, nor does it have a particularly huge membership, so it seems odd. But when you have third parties like Spamhaus involved, all bets are off, of course. |
I have been missing a lot of emails from groups.io recently. They are being bounced by Virgin Media due to their ratelimit being exceeded. I have reported this on the Virgin Media customer forum get the impression that not many people have reported the problem and Virgin Media seem to think it is ?to do with Spamhaus even though it is clear that ratelimiting is the problem. I hope others who are suffering with this problem are reporting it to Virgin Media in the hope that it will get fixed?

No company can guarantee delivery of a message when they don't own all the infrastructure between sender and recipient. Unfortunately your reply to me was affected by this problem, and I have now discovered that other members of one of the groups has been affected.
I and the other member are both using .ntlworld email addresses, i.e. we are virgin media customers. I'm not sure how I can find the IP address of the server concerned. We have been receiving messages with no problems until recently. When I use Google to search this problem, I see other virgin media customers are encountering this problem. I also see there was a thread on this on this forum back in September, but there doesn't seem to be a resolution there, as shte suggestion people switch to 'summary' might just end up with the summary message being subjected to the hourly ratelimit and not delivered. It is disturbing as I have missed messages about messages requiring approval, and replies to messages asking for minutes to be reviewed.? While I can am happy to go online to the Groups.IO site to check for undelivered messages, I'm not so sure some of my members would be willing to do this on a regular basis. We may have to go and look for a different group email provider. Sigh. |

Extra member data - update suggesstion
Hello,?
Is there a way to export the "extra member data" for just an individual subgroup and not the entire main group? When I export sub-group information (from the main group settings and directly from the sub-group settings), this field is left out. Could this be a future update? Thanks! Mitchie |

This is precisely what I did in the last week. I noticed a new group that was relevant to me, went to join and noticed in the "bot" confirmation email that it was sent to my general purpose email address, not my hobby email address. Thus I quit the list in question from my general purpose email address and joined with my hobby email address. I have a few email addresses, two mobile devices and three PCs. Keeping the emails straight on all devices is a task of its own. Please allow me to put in a plug for the Groups.io mobile App. Not too long ago I was in zoom meetings with a couple prospective moderators and a co-owner. The entire? zoom session was about organizing files and testing permission levels to assist in that goal. Live during that zoom session, I was able set & reset member/moderator permissions for a user as well as revise the file system permissions all in real time. There's nothing like actually trying out the differing permission levels for both the file system and the user level in real time. I know I may have been able to do the same switching tasks on the PC, but to me it was easier with two devices. Cheers, Dave F. |

Re: Changing email address immediately after subscribing - suspicious?
Might not be odd. I have?a ton of emails. I'm in two Group.ios. One where I manage a group and then another where that group is a subset of a larger group.?
?
It's hard to say. I would ask them and see. If the nature of your group means people know each other, that's another possible way to suss out what's going on.
I'm happy to ping other community managers regarding this. I use Groups.io as part of a volunteer activity but maybe someone in the groups I'm in manage?Groups.io instances?professionally.
?
Good luck!?

Re: Changing email address immediately after subscribing - suspicious?
Repeatedly might be odd, but might not. Whether the domain changes or not is key IMHO.
I own my domain, use a global forwarder. And while other anti-spam measures have worked well enough that lists@<mydomain> has been fine for 20+ years, if I started getting tons of spam to that address I'd change my list addresses and blackhole that one. So *maybe* this person keeps getting spam storms? |

Re: Changing email address immediately after subscribing - suspicious?
Does your group routinely post a "Welcome" message, or a monthly reminder? If not, it's possible that these people may not be aware of the "web only" setting (where they retain membership, but only access messages via the site, and don't receive an email for every post - or even a daily digest). I try to mention that whenever a new member joins, and it's included in a "mostly monthly" reminder I send out. I also make it a point to reply to each person who unsubscribes, and let them know of this "web only" option, if they are leaving simply because the list traffic picked up.?
