#messages not being #messages #received

In one of the groups I manage, I see messages written by one subscriber, but
I do not see the messages he is replying to. It appears that messages posted
by some users are not reaching me.

I tried to go to the web site to see if I could read the missing messages
there, but I could only see messages posted by me.

Is there some setting that I have missed that

1) stops messages reaching me by email

2) Stops me seeing any messages except my own on the web site.

Using an external database for membership

Hi, I am setting up a group for our society, and we use an external database for the members' details.? What I would like to know is there a way of downloading all the URLs for each member on the membership page as CSV, or would I have to do this individually, hopefully, would have about 600 members joining here, so would like to make it as easy as possible.? So that if they leave the society I can easily remove them the group by using the database by clicking on their URL which takes me to their membership page.

This is the URL I am talking about

Can I see if a subscribed member tries to subscribe again?

Hello
A member claims that he hasn't received any e-mails from the group yet, although his activity states that he did receive the most recent mail and isn't bouncing.? He claims to have sent a new subscription request by e-mail yesterday.? Is there any way I can check whether a subscription request was received from him?? Does Groups.io tell someone that they're already subscribed if they try to subscribe while being subscribed, and does this information appear in some or other activity log for the moderator to see?
Thanks
Samuel

I would heartily say, the members would seem to be, at the base of things, the greatest resource. It was key to get beyond any 1000 item limit.

I found PGO to work, for me, (trial version) with Files (which I also had from the Y! bundle/download) and to grab photos in batches of 20.

While it worked on one account, with another there were failure notes and a suggestion I might have double authentication turned on with Y! I looked, didn't see this and have to consider energy spent against value of the data.

I also tried this downloader, which claims to download everything like
PGO, but after getting two techies involved I still just get 'API query
failed' for files and photos, but when it got to topics it downloaded a
whole bunch of pornographic spam messages (!), and no legitimate posts

Same for me. Good luck to all.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Because of the holidays, the next #changelog will be posted on
January 10th, 2020.

Have a good holiday season everyone!

Mark
Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: Integrated with Canny.io to test feature request/tracking.

Posting there is available only to owners/mods of Premium groups (owing to Canny's fees). We hoi polloi may continue posting in beta.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

BUGFIX: Even if a group is configured to allow users to specify new
hashtags (Messages can be tagged with new hashtags), the 'Create
Hashtag' button was not displayed in the Hashtags page for members.
API: Added /newhashtag, /updatehashtag, /deletehashtag endpoints.
API: Added /mutehashtag, /unmutehashtag, /followhashtag, and
/unfollowhashtag endpoints.
CHANGE: Members can only donate to a donation request one time. This
is to prevent accidental duplicate donations (which have happened,
unfortunately).

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: "CHANGE: We are no longer accepting new Yahoo Group transfer requests"?

Alex,

... (I only would love to be able to move all the members PLUS the
archives) do I have any clock ticking on doing that migration with PG?
You do have a clock ticking on retrieving a complete copy of the Members list, if it is more than 1000 members. Use of PG Offilne must be complete before tomorrow night at midnight Pacific, probably.

For the messages you have somewhat longer, as Yahoo has extended the deadline for getmydata downloads until Jan 31st.

There's no deadline on re-posting the material into a Groups.io group.

I appear to own PG Offline 4. Have been periodically using it to
download the archives/messages. Is that covering my ass in any
significant way. That is, am I hearing right that as long as I've got
that downloaded I'd be able to upload that archive to Groups.io?
It is. You'd lose only material posted since the last time you refreshed your PG Offline copy.

And as far as I can tell (which isn't very far) the PG offline 4 that
I have has not downloaded the members.
You must use the Group menu, Get Members For Current Group, for each group in your list. Likewise for Download Files, Photos, and Links.

Maybe there's another version (the $25 version) and maybe I just have
the free version that's not as robust in capabilities? Is that so?
If you're having trouble with PG Offilne's access to Yahoo you probably need to update to the latest version. And yes, you will almost certainly need to register the product ($25). The Free trial is the same download as the registered product, the difference is the registration key that you need to enter to unlock downloading more than 1000 messages.

Re: Members that are Not Confirmed

Ken,

I have 2 folks with this same issue.? Chances are, the confirm to join emails either went to their email spam folder or their email provider has blocked emails from GroupIO.?

Nice job keeping the HealthKit group going.

Yahoo has in fact confirmed that digests will go away. It's on the list of vanishing features in their article at

I think the safest assumption is that nothing will happen - they'll just
stop getting digests. I'd be mildly surprised if Yahoo went to the

ignore their setting.

Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped #changeemail

That is the message I got when I tried to get into my account. Note that the Groups message said I could not get into ANY groups until . . .

But thanks to Bruce, I did get the bogus email confirmed and got right in. What a relief and many thanks to Bruce.

After the holidays and all the Yahoo transfer traffic has died down, I will ask support why a bogus email address change took effect without confirmation and why I could not access my account after it took effect. But I was NC so makes sense I could not access I guess.

Maybe some other moderators or owners should bring themselves into their groups with a different address and then change it to a bogus one (such as with a bad extension) and see what happens. Does the change take place immediately as it did to me and is it marked NC? Can you get into your bogus address account to do anything about it?

Then when testing is done, you as owner or moderator can drop that bogus address from your group.

I am sure I am not the only person this has happed to and maybe it is a glitch (gotta protect the idiots like me who make a typo).

Cheers to all,
David

Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped #changeemail

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Bruce,
I had already fixed the problem before I saw this email. ?I was able to login and I was shown as an owner (with the bogus email). ? I then deleted my secondary owner position (with bogus email) and then invite myself back in. ?I got the confirmation email and made me the 2nd owner (with a correct email). ?I then signed out and came back in with my 2nd email, and the deleted my 1st bogus email, invited myself back in (with real email), confirmed and made myself owner.?

So I am back in business and have two owners (both of which are myself). ?THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. ??

My next order of business is to get a totally separate owner as a back up so this does not happen again. ?And also remember to not do things when I am over tired and cause problems.

You can delete me from your Premium Group now. ?And I will report back to the GMF.

If you don't have a password, I may be able to do this for you, after adding you back again. But you'll still have to get rid of the existing account first. I cannot do an account merge for you.

Frankly, there's part of me that is hoping I cannot help you. If a group owner is capable of changing the email address associated with the account of another group owner, that strikes me as something of a bug. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah... I'd been under a rock.

Yes. Confirmation, like bouncing, is a property of the account (email address), not a specific group subscription.
And I am working with Bruce right now on that.

> And I should have the password for the errant address. ?I had to enter
> that in when I did the change.

Then I'm surprised that you were blocked from accessing your Account page when you attempted to log in to the errant address.

All I know is if I try to enter, I get the message I am not confirmed yet so cannot sign in even to just
Clicking on send another confirmation email does no good since there is no such email.

You should be blocked from group access under that scenario, but not from accessing your Account pages. Had you been able to, you could have corrected the address yourself without having to confirm the errant address.

If you eventually get in touch with support that's one of the things I'd like you to ask about: 1) why the address change took effect without confirmation, and 2) why you couldn't access the account page after it took effect.

Guess I have to wait until at least after January 6th to do that, but will ask.

Re: Using Export Group Data button

Carole,

If I use the export group data button, is the result that a
downloadable zip file is created but the messages stay put in
Groups.io?
Correct.

The zip file has a copy of all of the content, not just messages, and nothing is altered in the group itself. That is, everything stays put.

The intent is that you can periodically ask for an export, and tuck those zip files away as backups in case Groups.io should unexpectedly go offline. Or in case you and/or your group are removed from the service for whatever reason (you or another owner deletes it, or support removes it).

Then you always have a (somewhat recent) copy of your data to move to your group's next home.

Using Export Group Data button

Hi
As new first time group manager, I got through the Yahoo transfer. Then I was asked today if we had our own back up copy of the 15 years of messages residing with one or more of our moderators given what happened with Yahoo.
If I use the export group data button, is the result that a downloadable zip file is created but the messages stay put in Groups.io?? And do so until you delete them or the whole account?
I could not find this in the FAQ or Wiki and don't want to vaporize anything now its been moved.

Also Groups.io is such an improvement over Yahoo!. Big thank you for all you did to make it possible

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

So the question is if an address is confirmed in one group, will it confirm on a second group at the same time? ?

And I should have the password for the errant address. ?I had to enter that in when I did the change. ?

And yes I am the sole owner of my group (stupid I know) but did have myself in as owner twice with two different addresses. ?However I changed the second address at the same time (not smart). ?What I did was put the wrong extension by switching them. ?

So ? ?bogus address ? ? ? ? ? ?vs. ? ? ? ? ? ? real address ? ? ? ? ? ? are: ?
?djedgar@... ?? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? djedgar@...

I just did this when I was tired and totally goofed up by switching the extensions. ?There is no such thing as nor

And if Support cannot get to me until January sometime, the no problem. ?Nobody is urgently using to join our club group and there are no urgent matters at hand. ?We can float for awhile without owner.

However if someone with a premium group wanted to test the theory of confirming on one group confirms on a second group, I welcome the test. ?Let me join your group with either of the two bogus addresses above and then confirm it. ?I will then check my group and see if it confirmed as well. ?I can then be dropped from the premium group and I can then get in and fix my mistakes on my group if it does confirm. ?Not pushing for anyone to do this if they are uncomfortable with it. ?But if you do, then please let me know so I can check my group to see it the confirmation took place. ?I will then let you know so I can be dropped from your group. ?And I will report back to GMF at to the results.

For instance, how would the real owner send or designate a message as special? Would any other members of the group see it? Etc
Special notices are only sent by owners and moderators.

Special notices go to all members of the group, except those that are "no mail".?
Some subscribe as "special notice only" because they would prefer not to get email. So do it sparingly.
(I don't like "no mail" because there is no way for the owner to contact all members.
I have disallowed it on groups I set up. However some disagree.)

About online help for this - not much in the wiki, but there is this in the official Help:
Special notices:?If a hashtag is set to Special, all messages tagged with it, including the original message in the topic and all replies, will be sent as Special Notices. Note: hashtags set to Special cannot be muted. Also, only moderators and owners can send Special Notices. If a normal subscriber replies, their message will be sent as a normal message.
And in the section one subscriptions;

Special Notices Only?sends only those messages which a moderator has designated as a Special Notice.

So you can attach the tag if you are doing it by email, or the way I have done it, on the group site by ticking the Special Notice box above the message box.
