No. the ability to "unsubscribe" from individual threads is one of groups.io's advantages over alternatives

As far as I know, when we mute topic, no new message can be sent and
replying to those topic. Is it correct?
No. When you LOCK a thread the messages sent will not be passed-on.

When you MUTE a thread, new messages in that thread will not be sent to YOU anymore

Yes, traditionally that's how it used to be. You correct the email-address you want the message to go to, put in the correct subjectline, and delete all non-relevant pieces of quote.

I'm not sure whether it will end up in the right thread in groups.io though. I think it should, but it's not my decision..

The way groups.io is set up you're supposed to click "reply to this message" and compose your reply online. This makes it harder to reply to several messages in the same digest in one go.

Re: Reposting untransferred Yahoo posts to Groups.io?

As Duane said, it can't be done.?

However you could just save them and make them available as a file.

See 10 b) for some ideas. It won't be the same - not with each email attributed to the right person, etc. though.

Yahoo doesn't allow direct add anymore.? You'd have to join, then be promoted, if that's working.? With all the problems Y is having, I'm almost surprised you can even get to the site.

I've clicked on a few random group names (not found as the results of searches) and their home pages have worked with no problems.

Not sure why that isn't working for you.

I'm on chrome, and I am signed in.? would that matter?? I can try it on safari where I'm not signed in, and see if it works. If it doesn't, I'll give you the group names I was searching for and see if you can get to the home pages.

Thanks,
Terri

Mod's note - being signed in doesn't matter.?

Reposting untransferred Yahoo posts to Groups.io?

Hello, new member here (left Yahoo six years ago but now escorting new Yahoo refugees)...? I hope this forum can assist with two questions...? ?these have probably been addressed here in just the last few days, but, apologies, I'm not up to searching 3,000 November posts for the answers...?

One, does anyone have any insight as to response time from Groups.io tech support?? We've had our next question as well as some less urgent business submitted as support tickets over there [ https://groupsio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ ] for more than two weeks now with still no reply at all as of yet.? GIO tech support responded quite promptly to our questions during the transfer of a Yahoo forum to Groups.io in late October, so we're a little disturbed by the ongoing silence now.? We note that the GIO tech support page indicates priority in reply is given to groups.io Premium Service subscribers, which we thought was what we paid for when we signed up for the data transfer.

Two, during the couple of weeks between the time we paid for the transfer of data from our old Yahoo forum to our new groups.io forum, messages at our Yahoo forum continued to pour in and be approved for posting.? Those later messages, obviously, were not harvested in the data transfer.? The question here is how best to collect those Yahoo posts and post them to our new GIO forum so that, like the posts transferred by groups.io,? they are posted at the new site showing the actual original sender's screenname and/or Yahoo ID and/or e-mail sending address, and not instead the screenname / Yahoo ID / e-mail of the group moderator reposting those messages.?

Any assistance or insight will be much appreciated.?

I just tested it with Safari and with Firefox. Both work. I wasn't signed in to Groups.io with Firefox.
A glitch? If you give me a keyword, I can test it.

Why is it so hard to find groups? Whatever I type in, nothing comes up.
Further to Frances's comment about potential target groups being publicly visible the success of any given search is based on (a) the group owner setting up their Group Description so that it contains a good selection of keywords relevant to their group's purpose and (b) the person carrying out a search making an intelligent guess about what those keywords might be.

In the case of (a) not all group owners set up their group descriptions in such a way that will make searching for them either easy or successful and in the case of (b) it may require some inventiveness to find the right search terms!

Searching for a particular group name is always likely to be a bit hit and miss unless the relevant words are included in the description, which for understandable reasons they may well not be.

As a general rule the more search terms you use the more likely is some measure of success; the search mechanism returns all instances of each individual term occurring in group descriptions; it does not rely on finding the terms in combination with one another.

I don't know what the limit on the number of search terms is, or the total number of characters allowed. I have tested the search mechanism with ten terms totalling 66 characters (including spaces) and it found them all in one group description; not surprising because I put them all there as a means of testing it!

Also note that the search in the singular will not find plurals; type in "house" and it will not find "houses". It is possible to carry out wildcard searches by the use of *; type in house* and it will find houses, but the downside is that it will also find housewife, housemaid, household, housefly and doubtless others as well. Not so helpful...

Alternative nouns can also be useful; if looking some somthing relating to (say) dogs / cats / horses it is worth including canine / feline / equine and so on.

What sorts of groups are you looking for?

Chris

Re: Search For Groups

Are you trying to find your own groups? Probably not.

If you are talking about groups you wish to join - Find or Create a Group, you need to know that not all groups have opted to be in the list of publicly accessible groups.

I use the search box using just one or two keywords, hoping that the group will have meaningful words in their group homepage description. That is what appears in the description on?/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,0,0

There was a discussion about marketing your group. I have added a few keys words to the description on one of my homepage - using white type (in advanced toolbar). They help improve the retrieving of the group.

But the main thing is that it is up to groups to change that in their setting. In Admin, Settings, Privacy, Visibility.

I double-checked mine to see if it would be found. A good test!

I'm trying to get as far as possible given the halt in processing.
?
In our second group, we have been trying to make me an owner so the transfer could proceed some day. The result of trying this is that I have the Yahoo group showing in gray when I click "All my groups".? However, no changes can be made to the record as in attributing "ownership" to me. When I try to do anything I am told that I don't have permission to do what I ask. That includes reading messages.
?
Technically this is true but how is the group listed as one of mine and how do we remove it to start over? I'm certain someone has a wiki on this . . . hint, hint.

As Frances noted, groups.io should "remember" the last view you used and continue to use that.

Did you bookmark the page with the wrong sort order? If so, you might need to create a new bookmark.
