Re: Links in digest
The Groups.io help and linked to the wiki says:
Email Delivery
?
The Email Delivery options control how you wish to receive group emails.
?
Individual Messages will send each email individually, as soon as it's posted.
?
Full Featured Digest will group the days messages into batches of 12 and send each batch when the twelvth is posted. Any that remain at the end of the day will be sent as the final (or only) digest of the day. The digests include the full text of each message, omitting any quotes of prior messages. Full Featured Digests include at the top a list of the enclosed topics, clickable as links to take you to that topic.
?
Plain Digest works the same way, but is sent as a text/plain email message, with no clickable links.
?
Daily Summary sends a once-daily list of topics posted that day. Unlike the digests the summary does not include the text of any of the messages, only the list of topics.
?
Special Notices Only sends only those messages which a moderator has designated as a Special Notice.
?
No Email (not available in all groups) sends no posted messages to you by email. You may still receive individual notifications from the group and/or from Groups.io.

Re: Links in digest
Thanks, Bruce. Here's my answers to your questions.
Was the message completely missing from the digest? If so, I suspect the receiver had previously muted that topic, perhaps inadvertently. Have her check the entries at?/topics?m=1No. She received the top part (the new part) but not the forwarded part of that email. It could also be that the message was deleted before the digest was compiled. If so, those on Individual Emails would have received it but the Digest people might not.No, it's still on there. If the message was present but the link missing, it could be that it was in the middle of an iframe or a web form or some other prohibited html construct. Generally speaking anyone who gets into the habit of forwarding html emails can expect some things to disappear.Hmm, I checking .... I dodn't see anything fancy in there. Definitely no iFrames or anything like that. It actually looks like plain text plus a link, to me. With of course the obligatory MS characters that display weirdly on Firefox and Thunderbird. If something else is going on, we'll need more details; including some information on whether the poster and receiver were the same person. No, poster (P) and receiver (R) are different individuals. More info: When I view the original post on the web interface, I see something like this: I thought I sent this last Friday, but I sent it to myself. Maybe I took too many pain pills? But I believe this is a very important topic for us.

Begin forwarded message:
[Show quoted text]
The digest shows the same thing, minus the [Show quoted text] button. So does the digest just trim off the entire forwarded part? Su |

Re: Can we disable replies to a posting?
Too many posts about educating users. The OP said it didn't work and I agree. I regularly pruned our Yahoo group to delete the inadvertent personal messages and I never could educate the users, even the repeat offenders.. The real problem comes from email users--99% of all users. It's an email. John Doe sent it. They want to respond to John. So they hit Reply in their mail agent?just as they would for any other email. They never look at the choices at the bottom of the email. Setting a Reply-To tag in the header of the email (not visible in most mailers unless you select "View raw email" or "Display full headers) should work if it's done properly. If someone want to set that option and post full headers of an email like that, we can look at it. Set the option to display full? headers and copy/paste it into a post here. Larry |
Links in digest
Recently, a subscriber had a problem. One of the messages in the digest was about an article the poster recommended, but the link to the article was missing.
I asked the member to send me the digest, which she did. Going from there, I discovered that the poster had forwarded the message to the group, and the link (and most of the info) was in that forwarded message. This (the forwarded message) was removed from the digest, explaining the member's problem. So ... why is this happening? Any solutions for the future? Thanks, Su |

Reply to Sender automatically inserts the sender's email address in the "To" field of my email client. (Outlook 2003!) A test message hashtagged as Reply to Sender arrived with no Reply to Group (correct!) and the Reply to Sender in the footer inserted the sender's name in the "To" field again. (Correct!) Clicking on Outlook's "Reply" also produced the sender's address in the "To" field. (Correct!) The web UI was also correctly configured. I think if I understand you correctly, the "You have been added" message in the link that I posted is separate from the "Welcome" notice. Is this correct? So when I transfer my Yahoo Group, members will receive both the Welcome notice that I've customized, and the "You have been added" message that I cannot customize??Such is my understanding, although people have lately been reporting that the Welcome Notice is not being sent.? It would be great if the wiki page could make that more clear, if that's the case.I just did that. Our posts must have crossed in the ether! Bruce |

Hi, newbie here and sorry if this is a dumb question. I've searched in the archives on this group and the Help pages, and haven't been able to figure this out.
I was looking at sample Welcome notices and found this on the wiki for this group -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Added-Message-for-YG-transfer The sample text says "You have been subscribed to the new group using your email address?user@..." and I can't figure out how they inserted the email address. I would like to be able to have my customized Welcome message give the email address it's being sent to; what code can I use for this? Is this actually possible? Thanks in advance! -Joan |
