Why not turn off posting in the old group? That might get their
attention, and it will serve your purpose of not wanting posts in the
old group.

There is a round-about way. Modify your "Group Description", "Welcome Message", and "Footer message" to alert those logging in, joining or reading a posted message. It doesn't send an e-mail but it is obvious. We did this and it seemed to work:

5. Can I change the?@domain to my own URL name?

Re: Is there a way to automatically respond to people posting in my old yahoo group telling them to move to groups.io? #yahoo

I did send an email to the full list saying when it was closed and telling everyone to move to . I also sent messages counting down the days to when it looked like the migration would be complete based on the transfer "how many ahead of you" tally. But some of my yahoo group users are just posting announcements and they don't actually read the list, or as someone else mentioned, some don't pay attention until they're posting something they're interested in seeing a response to.

So the question stands. Other than manually replying to all my remaining Yahoo posters telling them to move to ? Basically, does yahoo groups?have some sort of auto-respond capability.

Re: Can we move selected archived messages from the main group to a subgroup?

That would be actually good for me as well. We have a sub group or 2 and some of the topics stray to that sub group so it would be handy to move said messages from group a to subgroup a.1

There's not a tool on the site to do that.? There have been requests and discussions on the beta group to allow moving messages within a group/subgroup setting.? It was in the context of someone posting to the wrong one, but should apply to this situation as well.? I think that if it's implemented, it will be one message or topic at a time, at least initially.

Open / Read Rates (Analytics of Mailed Messages)

Dakotta Alex

Hi - does anyone know if we can access analytics (read/open rates) to all messages being shared?

I'm curious to know how many of my members actually open the emails or forward them, etc.

Thanks!

Well, you probably don't want to hear this, but Yahoo! webmail does exactly that. If you "hover" the mouse pointer over the end of any displayed subject, an image of a magnifying glass appears. Clicking it opens a new tab with all messages with similar subject displayed newest first. (It's smart enough to include those with "Re:" and "Fwd:" prefixes and even multiple instances.)

I mostly don't use this function but since the huge infusion of [GMF] emails, it's been invaluable. I use this helpful sequence:
  1. Click on the subject magnifier of any message with the desired message. (Not the other magnifier which finds all messages from the same sender)
  2. Scroll to the bottom (earliest) message
  3. Click to open it and read the message in a new tab.
  4. Click the upward-pointing triangle at top right to open and read the next message.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the upward-pointing triangle is grayed out (top, most-recent? message)
  6. Close this tab to return to the list of the selected subject messages.
  7. At the top left, click the Selection square which checkmarks all the selected subject messages.
  8. Click Delete or press the Delete key.
  9. Close the tab to return to the Inbox.
  10. Repeat until the upward

No, and I really don't think you want it to.
Consider a message with the subject line of "Help" (a not-uncommon occurrence in a group like GMF).
Well, it's either group messages together even if their authors were lazy, or don't group messages together at all, meaning that current users have to spend a lot more time "moving" through the messages.

I understand the risk: authors who were lazy, will get what they deserve. Karma and all that.

Alternatively, I guess we'll just have to make the archived downloadable.

Resizing Images (was: How much time does it take to manage a group?)

Ken KM4NFQ

Thank you for your reply Duane.
?
My Nikon CoolPix digital camera takes huge photos.
I used to save them in a directory, and it didn't take long to reach an astronomical size.
Now I only save resized images to disc.
Compare: 4608x3456+0+0 8-bit sRGB 3.86798MiB
to: 849x561+0+0 8-bit sRGB 656352B
3.8MB to 0.6MB
?
So I am now working with resized images 99% of the time.
I simply open the original image in a browser which automatically resizes it to fit in the window.
I can use Ctrl-plus or Ctrl-minus to get the size I want.
Then I use a screenshot program to select the area I want to grab, and make a new image.
?
It doesn't take much time at all, and I am managing my disc space much better.
Plus, I find that I rarely look back. That is, I hardly ever look at those saved images again.
And if I do find myself looking through back-up discs for images, if I find it, I resize it as described above.
?
I guess that is the main thing. I used to think that I needed to save 'everything.'
It just does NOT seem that important to me anymore.
I am pretty sure it has something to do with time? ;-D
?
One other thing that I have discovered is that there is just so much information that can be discovered in an image. It seems that the closer I look at an image, the less I see. Go figure.
?

Personally, I would find that annoying. But it depends on the group. I can't really see any need for resizing any images automatically.
On a basic group, storage is at a premium.? It doesn't take many of those 5-10MB photos to use a lot of space, compared to 50-100KB each.? Keep in mind that the size is how they're stored, not necessarily how they're displayed.? For example, I have a photo on one of my groups that was resized to 312x312 taking about 48KB of storage.? If I go to the Photos section and open it, it appears at 640x480 and 140KB on my monitor.? If I download it, it's at 312x234, 48KB.? It does result in a little fuzziness on some photos online, but nothing our group can't live with.? Ken's choice of 488x488 would reduce the fuzz some and still save a lot of space.

Re: How much time does it take to manage a group?

Ken KM4NFQ

Thank you for your reply Duane.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine an 'emergency' situation where I would need to contact everyone subscribed to the Group?
This is just one of those things that I do not understand.
It is an Internet email group. What could possibly go wrong?
I cannot imagine that my Group will have anything that people cannot live without.
If goes away, it goes away.
No electrons will be harmed. No lives will be lost. ;-D

Nevertheless, I have noted the 'No Email' and 'Special Notices Only' options. Thank you.

A friend of mine just subscribed to my Group so I could see what happens and how much time it would take to do whatever I need to do.
It is really effortless.
In this case I logged in to the Group dashboard and approved the new member manually.
However, the email I received said I only needed to reply to the email to do the same thing.
So really, that shouldn't take much time at all.

The options I have under Members > Pending Approval > Actions are:
Approve
Reject
Claim
Send Message
Ban

The only one I am not sure about is 'Claim'. But I am pretty sure it is explained in the Wiki or somewhere.

Anyway, approving new members shouldn't take much time at all! Great!

No Email and Special Notices Only are almost the same if the Moderator uses special notices as truly special.? The difference is that in a real "emergency", a post by a moderator/owner can be sent to everyone via email by sending it as a special notice.? With No Email enabled, those that have it set wouldn't see the post until they went online.? In some cases, that might be too late.? I've disabled No Email on my groups and haven't sent a special notice in almost 5 years on GIO.

Ginger,

?> it?

Simple, log in to it. You may need to log out of whatever account you're
currently logged into. Or open a second browser to log in with. You
likely don't have a password set for that "wrong" account, so just use
the link for forgotten password, or the button for emailing a login link.

?> When I go to the group with the "wrong" e-mail delivery, it says that
?> my account is my hotmail address.

That only means that you have two subscriptions to that group - one
under your hotmail address and one under your "wrong" address.

Just remember that from Groups.io's point of view every subscribed email
address is its own account, possibly owned by a different person.
