Re: Question: removing a member for spam?
Duane wrote: It wasn't the email provider that unsubscribed them, it was GIO.? The providers return spam reports to GIO and it's up to them what to do.? GIO has decided that to preserve the reputation of the site, they'll unsubscribe those people.? All services should be doing this.? I believe the latest "rules" for email say that not honoring this and continuing to send emails is grounds for blacklisting the entire site/service.? In the early days, GIO was blacklisted by several services until Mark got everything straightened out and developed the unsubscribe system. D That's happened to me? two or three times. There is so much activity due to the Yahoo shutdown that even though I've not marked anything as Spam my provider (one of the AT&T domains managed by Yahoo) starts sending spam notices to GIO. GIO unsubscribes me and sends an email with a notice. I click the link and am instantly resubscribed. The question, however, is what triggered AT&T/Yahoo to send the notice to GIO. It wasn't me. It was either some algorithm or (my guess) some ignorant user that was marking everything as spam instead of simply clicking unsubscribe. This misguided action dates back to the 1990s when email spam became a problem. The conventional wisdom then was "Never click an Unsubscribe link. It just lets the spammers know they've hit a valid email address and you will get more spam." This doesn't take into account the side effects of newer anti-spam messages like the ones we're discussing. Sadly, mass user re-education is impossible. Larry |
Owner view vs Member view
Hi All......
I think it would be a nice feature if there were to be a badge in the header, or some other indication on each screen as to whether or not it was only for Owners, or Moderators eyes or was capable of being viewed by regular Members. This would help me in giving instructions to members to know what they see on their screen. ??Anybody else think so? ? Chuck, CABGx3 |
Re: Reading Digests on iPhones
I did a test last night to see and I believe it is because your member has her iPhone set for very large font.? I have my text set to zoomed and then largish font size. ?In current iOS ?Display and brightness ?Text size ? if I increase the font size too much with the slider in admin I get that scrunched look.? I tested it with full featured digest.? Attached are 3 photos. The first is the digest.?

If you make a new primary group and upgrade it to Premium Yearly, you can use the Easy Group Transfer method to subsequently move your existing Yahoo Group into a subgroup of that primary group for archival purposes. Detailed instructions at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups, see also?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22617. Be very careful to select the SUBgroup when you initiate the transfer. There is no good way to move that content later, and some people have reported accidentally directing two or more transfer requests into the same destination and ending up with a mess. Bruce |

Cheers, The Groups.io Team ----------------------------------------------------------- In my test, when I clicked the link in the report (which was for an image file), my browser prompted me to save it (and the browser correctly identified it as an image file. Unfortunately, following the link doesn't tell you where the file is located. This is really stupid (sorry, Groups.io developers!). So, you're going to have to write an e-mail to that person and ask him if he can remember which file he reported, and if so, what the location of the file is, and perhaps also apologise to him on behalf of Groups.io that the location of the file wasn't part of the report that was sent. However... If you're on the page where the file is, you can use your browser's "view source" feature and search for the file ID. Samuel |

How can I copy over those last few days worth of posts? I've downloaded all my group data from Yahoo. In Thunderbird, I can right-click a message and select "Edit as a new message", so that the message is not "forwarded", which preserves the quoting style, although the resent message is still "FROM" me. Option 2: Convert the mails to e.g. HTML, DOC or PDF files or DOC files, and upload them to the Files section. How to convert them to those formats depend on the format that they're currently in. How do I fill the gap between when my migration covers and when my groups.io group was ready to use.
#migration
I kicked off the migration of my yahoo group on Oct. 26. The migration was completed and the groups.io group was ready to use on Nov. 8. At that point, I turned off posting to my yahoo group and directed my members to start using groups.io.

Is it possible to export the group data via an eMail request?? I didn't see an eMail address that would do this :-)

time on calendar and reminder
When I entered the details of more than one meeting and marked Time Zone as Eastern. The time on the calendar shows at 6:30 AM although I entered 9:30 AM.? Since I have not used the Reminder function before (this is a new group) I am wondering if the reminder for the meeting will show as 6:30 AM instead of 9:30 AM.
If this has been discussed before, refer me to the message number and I will look for it. Thanks. |
move messages to subgroup
#yahoo
I have three subgroups that were created after I requested a Yahoo transfer.? The transfer happened but the content went to the main group.? I would like to bulk move the content to the subgroup intended for questions.?
I found several posts from circa 2017 which say that there is no way to move a message from main to a subgroup or between subgroups.? Is that still the case? Would it work to delete the Yahoo messages in the main group and request a new transfer from Yahoo to the correct subgroup? thanks! Gary |

Sorry, I can't remember if this turned out to be a browser issue. But have you tried clicking the link in other browsers? Samuel |

As far as I can see, no-one here mentioned a Firefox extension, but I did find one that worked, called MultiAccountContainers: With this extension, if you click one of the sessions in the list, it opens a new tab, but the tab doesn't automatically load Groups.io. YOu have to type in (or select from the browser's address field dropdown options) /groups. But from that point onwards the tab is a separate session with a separate login, and all tabs opened from those tabs remain part of that particular session. I particularly like the fact that the session name is noted in the address field, so that you can see which session the tab is from. You can also save sessions in Firefox manually, but then each session is in a separate window (not just a separate tab). Samuel |

Chrome is available as a download app for your cell. It may be worth your time to try it out. I use both. It can save logins and autofill just like safari. I use a third party password keeper and it integrates well with Chrome.
