The FAQ says:

5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?
?
Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases.
Calendar entries are not copied at this time.
Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.

If someone is "no mail" in YG and you have opted to disallow that in Groups.io, they are transferred as Special Notices only.

Just an FYI.

In one of the groups we moved to GIO, there were many who had chosen 'no email' in YG. We decided not to provide the option.
Even though some members left, most continued.
One issue some had was the message traffic. Suggested they opt for Digest. GIO Digest is nicely formatted.

Just FYI, some of my group members had were upset by the move ¡ª totally disconcerting. I had warned them and explained the why but when it happened it was like I was surreptitiously sending all messages to the CIA. That message was important because it did get their attention.

It was also a chance to clean the list because about 300 of 3,000+ members unsubscribed. I did a random check and they were either bouncing or had moved and never bothered to unsubscribe.

Su -- Interesting scenario.

So questions:
1. Is it possible to automatically add a hashtag based on a string in the topic (OT in this case)?
No. A hashtag IS a string in the topic.

2. I know you can lock or moderate a hashtag after a certain time. Is it also possible to change it over to reply to the OP or the sender at that time as well?
I'm afraid not. Even if you could, it's not possible to retrieve already-sent emails and change the reply-to field in those headers.

A girl can dream, right? :-)
Never hurts to ask.

Nice!

How did you download the attachments from Yahoo in the first place? One by one? PGO?

Keep your existing address as the Owner and invite yourself as a new member using a different email address.?

The other email address will just be a normal membership so you can see what normal subscribers see. You will either have to log out and log in to change accounts, or you can use a different browser and be logged in on both accounts at the same time.

transferring from yahoo best practices

I've created a new group and requested the group info at yahoo be transferred.
?
The instructions page for yahoo transfers (/yahootransfer) says the following in the notes
  • Unless you specify otherwise, we will send a notice to every member telling them about the transfer.
  • If you have created a customized welcome message for your group, we will also send that to each member who is not already a member of the new group.
I understand from an email I received that if some messages or content is not transferred that will be noted in the email confirming the transfer is complete.? I'd like to be able to look at that info before I have the welcome message sent. So my questions are:?
1) for the first bullet?point above, how do I specify for GIO NOT to send a notice to every member? and?
2) If the Welcome message is not active at the time of the transfer, does that mean it will not be sent?? And if so, then how is it best to send a welcome message when I am ready?

Have a look at each subgroup in turn and look at (a) Admin > Settings > Message Formatting > Attachments and check that it isn't set to Strip and (b) Admin > Settings > Default Sub Settings > Max Attachment Size and check that it isn't set to "O (no attachments)¡±

These settings are right. Submit for attachments and unlimited for default attachment size.

Usage is 1.1 MB of 1GB
