Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

Are you talking about a monthly reminder of the group guidelines? This is sent by the calendar and is one of the Member Notices. The owner/moderator writes it.

Here's what we all get from GMF:

Group Managers Forum subscription reminder #admin
?
When:
Friday, 1 November 2019
?
Description:
?
This is your monthly subscription reminder for the Group Managers Forum. We are glad you joined our group.
?
Our GMF Group's web resources are open and public. Our Messages archives and Wiki are viewable and searchable by non-members. GMF message archives are indexed by major search engines. Unfortunately, due to Groups.io restrictions, you must be a member of GMF and logged in to access our Files and Photos sections.
?
We expect members to post and act responsibly. Please respect your fellow members' time and attention: strive to be clear, concise and courteous. Our subject matter naturally includes matters of opinion; if you happen to disagree with another member please do so without being rude. Personal attacks are not allowed. Solicitations are off topic and will be deleted without comment. Listing your groups in your signature is perfectly acceptable, but just make sure there's also on-topic content in your post.
?
Attachments are allowed and the judicious use of screen shots and other illustrations is encouraged!
?
All messages sent to GMF are moderated. This is done to avoid malicious attachments, spam, off-topic messages, and messages from spoofed or compromised mail accounts. Despite these measures, be aware that the bad guys are clever so there's no guarantee that we'll always succeed; you are encouraged to be vigilant against any and all threats arriving via email. Your GMF moderators make no guarantees regarding the safety of emails arriving from this or any other Groups.io address.
?
We are always looking for suggestions from our members to make this group better for all. Feel free to address any questions, comments, or concerns directly to the group moderators via email to [email protected].
?
GMF Mission Statement:
?
We strive to be a resource of the highest quality for owners and moderators of Groups.io groups. We allow as much information as possible from our group to be accessed by visitors! Would you like to be a better Groups.io group owner and/or moderator? Would you like to see even more improvements in Groups.io groups? We discuss our experiences as both group owners and moderators, share ideas for promoting and customizing the content areas, and offer various techniques for managing groups.
?
To send a message to the members of this group, simply send email to [email protected].
?
GMF is at times very busy. To substantially cut down on the email clutter see Subscription Options. In particular, Following Only, First Message Also, and Auto Follow Replies work well together to focus only on topics of interest to you.

GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers

Emergency TECH Support

Dale Dreher

I paid for Groups IO to transfer my gorups but they are putting the Wrong group members in the wrong group.

I need the to STOP.

This is really really bad.

I paid $400 to expedite 2 groups today and the are putting the wrong YG Members into the wrong new GroupsIO list.??

help please.? ?I have tried to email Tech support.? ?

Re: The Hashtags feature is part of which plan?

Earlier this year Groups.io allowed hashtags and also automatically attaches them to some features, e.g. Calendar and Invite.

'Subject Line Bloat' also began earlier this year.

I don't want to use them either of them, but there are no controls to turn them OFF, yet.

WORKAROUND:
Admin: Settings: Message Policies:
Set to:
"Posts by subscribers can only by tagged with existing hashtags, new hashtags will be removed."
Click on "Update Group" (at bottom of page)

To prevent Moderators from creating (and deleting) hashtags:
Admin: Members:
Use the "Members, Moderators, Pending Approval, Bouncing, Banned" dropdown menu to select "Moderators"
Click on a Moderator's row (not the check box)
Scroll down to "Moderator Permissions" and make sure "Create/Delete Hashtags" is unchecked
Click on "Save" (at bottom of page)
Repeat for each Moderator

Even with that setting some Subject lines will be automatically hashtagged, e.g.:
#cal-reminder, #cal-cancelled, or #cal-invite, ETC

WORKAROUND:
Hashtags (not Admin)
Then "Edit" every (existing) hashtag to: "Moderated"
Click on "Update Hashtag" (at bottom of page)
Repeat for each Hashtag (current and future)

Now you will have to Moderate every Message and Notice that has a hashtag,
but it allows removal of any existing Hashtag AND correction of 'Subject Line Bloat', e.g.
from:
[CCSS] Upcoming Event: Cape Cod Scottish Session - Tue, 2019-11-05 7:00pm-9:00pm #cal-reminder
to:
[CCSS] Cape Cod Scottish Session - Tue, 2019-11-05 7:00pm

NOTE: Any Moderator (with "Approve Pending Messages" permissions) can approve any message,
so if they don't have "Create/Delete Hashtags" permission, you may also want to:

WORKAROUND:
Admin: Members:
Use the "Members, Moderators, Pending Approval, Bouncing, Banned" dropdown menu to select "Moderators"
Click on a Moderator's row (not the check box)
Scroll down to "Notifications" and make sure "Email when there are messages needing approval." is unchecked
Click on "Save" (at bottom of page)
Repeat for each Moderator

It is a PITA and better controls could fix that, perhaps after the 'great YahooGroups migration'...

I've had the same experience with Yahoo's offered download "Your download request has been completed, but no data of this type is available in your account."? After 20 years of being active in groups you'd think that there might be something......

I've paid my $25 and used PGOffline to grab stuff from groups that look as though they are going to disappear :(?

I have to admit that I am completely and utterly lost. OK; you envisage a monthly message but of a type not covered by the standard Monthly Message facilty offered by Groups.io, but I cannot tie this in with the original title that you gave to this thread, i.e. What are the email addresses I should use?

Perhaps someone else might be able to work it out.

Re: "Average Pace" of transfers

Hi friends,

I don't expect you to follow my little group's transfer saga avidly...but take a look at the last few days, and keep the faith!? (A minor caveat is that I didn't consistently check at the same time of day; but today was the first time that I saw such dramatic movement.)
?
Sat 10/19/2019 Alerted members of my group about Yahoo¡¯s plans and discussed options (Google groups. Groups.io, Facebook, plain email, dissolution).? People liked my description of Groups.io especially the ability to preserve ten years¡¯ worth of content.
Sun 10/20/2019 Created group at Groups.io.? Signed up for Premium and paid $110 (which doubled two days later).? Sent invitation for [email protected] to join our Yahoo group.? Heard nothing.
Thur 10/24/2019 Sent a second invitation to [email protected].
Fri 10/25/2019 Invitation was finally accepted.? (Whether it was Sunday¡¯s or Thursday¡¯s, I don¡¯t know.)? I swiftly upgraded [email protected] to moderator and gave the go-ahead for transfer.
Sun 10/27/2019 Finally progressed to step 3 of 4.? Place in queue #644.
Mon 10/28/2019 #633.
Tue 10/29/2019 #618.
Wed 10/30/2019 #584.
Thur 10/31/2019 #553. "The pace does seem to be picking up but we¡¯re still looking at 2-4 more weeks if this continues."
Fri 11/1/2019 #543
Sat 11/2/2019 #521
Sun 11/3/2019 #504
Mon 11/4/2019 #455? (Wow!? Was #472 in early afternoon, rechecked at 6 p.m.)

Re: PG Offline users #pgoffline

All of the email addresses are in the zipped file I got from Yahoo and opened with MailDex 2020. They are in the mbox files they send you.?

I am just a regular member of the group - not even a moderator and now I have all the email addresses, even though the member list is hidden from me in the Yahoo Group website.

Just an FYI if you are trying to harvest email addresses for your groups.

His response to me was very prompt.

Have you checked your Spam folder?

Re: Q about finding a particular member

Tried search on partial string and it works. Thanks for pointing it out.

That isn't strictly necessary, or shouldn't be.? Just a "partial" of the address before the @ will find any match. (It will also work on addresses that have something personal after the @ but they are less common.)

I get the feeling that the original query was posed after a search on "Pending" members didn't produce any results; as Duane pointed out the search needs to be done on "Members".

Re: Personalgroupware (PG Offline)

Alex,

I just need the license key... you can't just buy one off of his web
page, you have to message him and then he sends you a invoice via
Paypal Tried BOTH emails... nothing in over a week.
I assume you included your Unique Code? Without that he can't/won't generate a license key:

Trying again from a different email account
That's probably a good idea, in case the one was blocking his replies to you.

Alex,

Maybe you can track him down in their forum...

I see Wilson has been active their recently. The forum also provides Personal Messagers (PM).

Re: "Average Pace" of transfers

Slowly but surely we will all get there. I am at the 744 groups ahead of me. I'm OK with that. At least it will happen!?

Re: The Hashtags feature is part of which plan?

Yes, thanks Bruce and Duane. David. *what*?? LOL It went right over me. I think I will just leave my settings as they are. I mean if people want to use them, knock yourself out. I just left it on the messages can be tagged with new hashtags.
Thank you!!

Susan

Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

Well, there doesn't need to be ONE correct one. The person will probably want to include them all.

[Mod Note: This appears to be in reference to:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22312, paragraph 2]

I'll check on that. The person in charge of my Yahoo group is looking at getting someone else to do it and told me just drop it.

1.?I am happy to see we can transfer the archive of old message postings from YahooGroups to io.groups as part of the migration. ?I also see we can download the (newly) transferred archive. ?What form/format is that in when I download it? ?How can it be read?
Lisa -- The archive is exported in mbox format. It is readable using any text editor, but not is very friendly. I believe you can open it in Thunderbird and a few other desktop email clients, but have not actually tried it.

2. ?If our ?io,groups members want to just use the service to send from and receive in their email program, is that possible, or do users have to use the web interface?
If all you want to do is communicate by email, it is not necessary to ever log into the groups.io web interface.

3. ?If we use the io.groups migration service year one, I understand the annual fee is $220. ?Then can we go back to free in subsequent years?
Yes, assuming that after that one-year period your group storage remains under the 1GB allocation available to Basic groups. Otherwise at that point you will find yourself unable to upload any further such content to the group.

Regards,
Bruce

Newly transferred. So far, groups.io seems excellent
