Re: How long does signup take?

Considerably longer!? The setting up of your group and getting it approved might take a couple of hours.? After you set up the group, you have to invite [email protected] to be a moderator; it took them 3 days to accept my invitation.? Then you are queued up to do the migration. I am number 507 in line, yesterday I was number 519.? So, it's moving quite slowly.? ?I'm thinking 10 days at this rate.? People who pay to have it expedited have reported that it only takes a matter of minutes to migrate after the invitation is accepted.??

Because the functions of Yahoo are going away today, I added my members to the new group and it is up and running.? It's not as smooth as just migrating the whole thing, but it's working and people are using it.? We only have 650 members, so it wasn't such a big task.

Good Luck,
Sarah?

Question about creating hashtags #hashtags

Hi all,
According to the Wiki, I should be able to pre-create a hashtag on the "Hashtags" page in the group, by selecting the "Hashtag" section from the side menu and then clicking a "create new hashtag" button. Unfortunately, I do not see a "create new hashtag" button.
Is this problem occurring for anyone else? Am I missing some permissions from the admin?

Thanks in advance,
Roy

Re: How long does signup take?

Hi

I am one of the volunteer moderators here at GMF. No staff here!

The time varies for migration, partially depending on YG. You need to sit at your computer! You do have to watch out for making the transfer email address a moderator at your YahooGroup.?
See the FAQ we developed to help. And links to the instructions, the official ones and help we wrote.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups
Pay for premium. Then start the transfer.

There have been posts as well about how many days it is taking.
Of course, you can also pay a bit extra and get expedited. See the FAQ link above.

Sign up though is quick. Set up your group - and your settings.?

This is a user-to-user group.? No one from Groups.io monitors it.? For questions like this you'd need to contact [email protected]

They'll be set to Special.

Umm... your pay by credit card screen looks very insecure :/

Is there a better way to pay to upgrade my group to Premium (for Yahoo Group transfer)?
Is there a way I can pay by PayPal instead?

If you're viewing by topic/thread, the topic will get bumped to the top when a new message arrives, assuming you have the page sorted by most recent first.? If you're viewing by messages (or Expanded Messages), it will be at the top if you're sorted by most recent.? In either case, if you're sorted by oldest first, they'll be at the bottom of the list, possibly several pages down.? There is a change in the works so that you'll know which messages/topics have been read without relying on the browser, but that's on hold until the migration is over.

YG member import mapping, going from NoMailAllowed group to NoMailDisabled group

Hello folks,

Does anyone know what happens during the YG member import process, for members who previously had the "No Mail" preference set, but the new GIO group has it disabled?

Does the import/mapping code defaults to going up the email delivery hierarchy to the next lowest/available option (Special Notices), or does it default to something else?

I don't want to have the "No mail" option enabled in the new group, it caused some notification problems on our YG with this enabled, a good percentage of members did not get notified, so I want to be able to contact everyone in the new group if the need arises for a special notice, which wouldn't be too often.

Cheers,
Christos

Re: Bump updated messages to top #messages

Suggestion: Do what Google mail does: When a new message is added to a thread, mark the thread unread and sort the list by when the most recent message was added to each thread.

Alan, you can see messages individually, not by topic, if you prefer. Also expanded.
Choose from the Topic menu at the top of the Messages.?
You can also toggle date to newest to oldest.

Not sure if this is a complete answer for you.?

In your own groups, you can also set threads to close after a specific length of time. In Admin, Message Policies:
Automatically Lock Topics Older Than ? ?days
Locks topics after the specified number of days. Topics will be locked overnight Pacific time.

How long does signup take?

My time is very limited. ?I feel that once I sit down to start a migration of a Yahoo Group to Groups.io that I probably must sit at the computer until my application is accepted and Groups.io takes over to perform the migration and I can leave my computer.

Please tell....how long does that time usually take? ?Is it just a matter of a few minutes, or might it take considerably longer.

Tks
Chuck, CABGx3

Bump updated messages to top #messages

Observation: Messages seem to be listed by thread, in order of when the first message in the thread arrived.? So, if a thread began a month ago and someone sends a new message in that thread, when I log on to my group and look at messages, I have no clue that there was a new message in that thread.? I would have to open every thread and check to see whether any new message had arrived.? That is not practical.

Suggestion: Do what Google mail does: When a new message is added to a thread, mark the thread unread and sort the list by when the most recent message was added to each thread.

Re: Files section folder hierarchy preserved when group transferred?

Cal,

Will transferring a group from yahoo maintain the hierarchical
structure of the folders in the Files section?
Yes.

I will get in contact with "someone else" (the person affected above) to see if he is willing to go down the ICO route.
As things stand he is reluctant to go down that road, however it emerged that he was sent a message from the "BT Community" on 7th October that read as follows:

Hello [redacted]

The team have replied to me confirming they understand the issue and the root cause. They are currently working on fix options but we cannot confirm a date for when it will be resolved just yet.?

Thank you for your patience in this matter and I will update you again as soon as I have any more information on it.

He had been "promised" a telephone call from someone in the BT hierarchy today but in the event that call never happened.

Now to me 3 weeks without any further updates seems to be a long time, but perhaps I am being unduly optimistic about how long it might take to resolve an issue such as this.

Re: group listed in directory, private messages option during transfer

If you want your group to be found by potential members, it is best to be listed in the directory.?

If you think that you will use invitation only (or direct add if you have Premium or Enterprise) you could not list it in the directory.
That is the case with some of mine - only for a committee.

Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem

J Forster,

I hope his actions don't interfere with the transfer when they get so
far.
They won't.

The only connection between the Yahoo Group and the destination Groups.io group is in the transfer setup. There's no requirement that the group names/addresses be the same or even similar in the two systems.

Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem

While yes I am concerned about the time to load the data into Groups.io program but I am not that concerned.

?

My largest concern is does Groups.io have the data from Yahoo Group and if so then can wait for Groups.io to do their part.

?

My largest group finished downloading today. 3 others finished a few days ago. I have 4 more that the cost will be out of my pocket so likely will not due unitl Nov as on next month¡¯s cc and due to be paid towards end of Dec.

Actually there has been some progress from 491 to 477.? Although at this rate it will be over a month 'til the transfer completes? Ouch.

Easy Yahoo Group Transfer Setup

We are in process of transferring your group. Depending on Yahoo and demand, this may take several days. You will be notified by email when the transfer is completed.

Transfer Status

Your group is awaiting import into Groups.io. There are about 477 groups ahead of it in the queue. [Step 3 of 4]

Re: Transferring recent messages which missed the automatic move window.

Ron,

Specifically messages 27276 through 27288 need to be moved to the new
group.

Is there are way to do this conveniently preserving the same details
for the automatically moved messages?
Back before things became so hectic you could delete the record of your completed transfer and start a new one, check marking only the sections with content yet to transfer. The transfer agent would fill in the gaps, skipping any entries already present.

This was generally intended for catching Files and Photos that had been skipped due to Yahoo Server issues, but I suspect it may work for messages as well.

I don't know if things will get any less hectic between now and the December cutoff, otherwise I'd suggest waiting.
