Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem

While yes I am concerned about the time to load the data into Groups.io program but I am not that concerned.

?

My largest concern is does Groups.io have the data from Yahoo Group and if so then can wait for Groups.io to do their part.

?

My largest group finished downloading today. 3 others finished a few days ago. I have 4 more that the cost will be out of my pocket so likely will not due unitl Nov as on next month¡¯s cc and due to be paid towards end of Dec.

Actually there has been some progress from 491 to 477.? Although at this rate it will be over a month 'til the transfer completes? Ouch.

Easy Yahoo Group Transfer Setup

We are in process of transferring your group. Depending on Yahoo and demand, this may take several days. You will be notified by email when the transfer is completed.

Transfer Status

Your group is awaiting import into Groups.io. There are about 477 groups ahead of it in the queue. [Step 3 of 4]

Re: Transferring recent messages which missed the automatic move window.

Ron,

Specifically messages 27276 through 27288 need to be moved to the new
group.

Is there are way to do this conveniently preserving the same details
for the automatically moved messages?
Back before things became so hectic you could delete the record of your completed transfer and start a new one, check marking only the sections with content yet to transfer. The transfer agent would fill in the gaps, skipping any entries already present.

This was generally intended for catching Files and Photos that had been skipped due to Yahoo Server issues, but I suspect it may work for messages as well.

I don't know if things will get any less hectic between now and the December cutoff, otherwise I'd suggest waiting.

Lately I have been able to download thousands of messages at full
speed then a 1 minute pause, and continued to download. Only once did
I get locked out of one of the several groups I was downloading, and I
was downloading in up to 6 separate sessions of PG Offline.

They opened up the bandwidth and made their controls less sensitive to
downloading thousands of messages very quickly.

Duane,

Apparently YG has a limit on the traffic for each group.

I've never heard of a limit on traffic for a specific group (but that doesn't mean you're wrong!).

Re: Invite-to-membership time for Yahoo Group (in order to begin transfer)

Skip,

As there is no existing transfer status I presume my invite either has
gone astray or has not been made; ...
If there's no status at all, not even the box instructing you to send the invitation, then you haven't initiated the transfer, and your invitation will be discarded. See the screen shot under "Start the Transfer Process" here:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

I suspect that the invite may have just evaporated into the ether...
An invitation I sent out from a Yahoo Group over the weekend took about 12 hours to arrive in my email inbox. So it may not have evaporated.

Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I had a similar issue.

A squatter registered the exact name of one of my Yahoo Groups on Groups.io in the apparent attempt to hijack the Group.
I contacted Support, but have yet to receive a reply. So, I successfully registered a varient of the original group name and announced it.
My new group now has many members. The hiujacker's has 2.

The hijacker does not have Moderator privileges on the original group, so can't transfer membership.

I hope his actions don't interfere with the transfer when they get so far.

Re: BT + problem leads to ghost registration

If I saw the webpage saying my email address is registered, I'd try to use
the 'lost password' tool and see if it sends me the option to set a
password. If that happened and worked, then from his account on groups.io he
could find the group and register that way (I think).

Files section folder hierarchy preserved when group transferred?

Greetings,

Will transferring a group from yahoo maintain the hierarchical structure of the folders in the Files section?

Once you've started a transfer, there will always be some sort of status on the top line.? If there are no groups in the Existing Transfers drop down to select from, you haven't started one.

Skip,

If I¡¯d known about this opportunity, I¡¯d have made the switch long
before it cost anything, let alone the $220 I paid.
We made no secret of it in Y!GMF, but unfortunately it would only have been luck, word of mouth, or determined searching that would have led you there.

in any event, they are ceasing services in a month or so, ...
Not posting / receiving by email. That is supposed to continue. As will Y!GMF as long as it is able.

That said, posts to two different YGs I made a couple of days ago have
have not made it to those YGs...
Yup. Message throughput in Y!GMF has been getting progressively slower since the announcement. My mental image before the slowdown set in was of a field full of beehives, all disturbed by a sudden jolt, and all buzzing furiously. They're still trying to, this one still is.

Member notices only works if a group is restricted AND it doesn't work for "direct add" or invitations. Only works if people send you a request to join, through the directory of groups or some other way.

Re: Transferring recent messages which missed the automatic move window.

Perhaps you could forward the messages from YahooGroups,?
Or you could download them and put them in Files.?
See all the discussion on PG Offline - hash tagged threads - you can go to # Hashtags on this group's homepage and find the right hashtag. Click on the number of topics to open them.

Requiring people who want to join a group to enter some text in their request #addmembers #howto #members

I am coming from a Yahoo group and there I had set up that new members should write something about why they wanted to join.

It allows me to almost instantly filter out the good from the bad requests as the request should be on-topic and also the language should be Dutch as the list is Dutch.

Any options for this ?
