Is it possible to edit a subject? #messages

Bee

Just a quick query -
After S etting up ¡°Intro¡± as a hashtag on my group, I then sent my own intro with the subject ¡°Abi #Intro¡± explaining how my (mainly elderly) members could go to the online group and create their own intro.

Almost immediately someone replied to the message with their own Intro - with the result her Intro is headed ¡°Abi #Intro¡± ?

Is there a way I can edit the subject on her reply to read her name, whilst retaining my own name in the subject of my original post? ?Otherwise searching for members¡¯ introductions is going to become very confusing!

Thanks!
Abi

ps. ?Just seen that posts to this group have tripled in the last month. ?Big shout out to all of those keeping up with the sudden influx of questions and being so patient with all us newbies! ?What a great job you¡¯re all doing - you have my gratitude!?

Having set it out fairly comprehensively, hopefully it will be of help to others at some point.

FWIW it was an interesting voyage of discovery for me as well. :)

Re: Only moderators can use hashtags?

Chris,

Yes, I tried all that, and I agree that it works just the way you described. ?Thanks for the confirmation!

Re: Hashtag search has no results

Yes - it took mine a little over 24 hours.

Yes, there are many permissions that can be set (or not) for each moderator.? Rather than owner, you should make the additional people moderators and give them most permissions.? As long as you don't give them "Modify Group Settings" or "Set Moderator Privileges" you should get what you want.

2.? Can billing - be hidden from members and mods alike as "" the monetary information?should ?not? ?be seen by others""
???? If there is a way -??to hide this info please advise.
Only moderators or owners see that.? Moderators would need the "Billing" permission to see it.

3.? In sub groups,?? why is there a need for the member to be in both groups?? Main & sub.
???? both deal in separate graphic issues - the posts would be heavy indeed,,?
???? one group is 800 + members??? the other a small group -? 27.? The small group would be deluged with mail..
Being a member of the main group in order to join a subgroup is a function of the way Groups.io works.? To avoid this, you could create another group for the second, smaller group to make them totally independent.? Members can set their email preferences for each group and subgroup separately.? No need for members of the subgroup to get any messages from the main group if they don't want to.? They could set it to No Email if you allow that on your group or Special Notices if you don't.

As an aside, many of us have created an account for our group that only has member privileges so we can see what regular members see.? This can be handy when you have questions about things like this.

In reality there seem to be a lot of perfectly valid suggestions that fall by the wayside. If and when the dust settles I'll try to raise it again on beta.

Chris
Well, for some functions you will probably have to wait forever owed to the huge volume of inquiries. So as far my groups are concerned, I found a temporary solution by creating a new member with owner adress (email and alias). So, if I want an owner message without my personal name showing up, I log in with this new member?s address. My moderators were provided with the new address and password as well, so they can use it if it is indicated.

Trouble with my group messages transfer

I setup and expedited a transfer of all our messages in our current Yahoo Group (no attachments, no photos, no members) over to Groups.io. I got an email saying ¡°messages¡± were transferred but when I went to the Group to which we specified everything be moved, there was zero old postings in there. Anyone else have this issue? What did I do wrong in my setup of either group or the transfer instructions that would prevent a single old Yahoo Group message from being ported over?

Finally!

Suz

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Mark transferred my group twice ¨C second time early yesterday and nothing seemed to have changed.

?

BUT!!!!? This morning we can approve messages, it seems another at least 60,000 messages there.? I read somewhere that things are coming in piecemeal and that must be the case.?

?

I am a super happy camper!!!

Perhaps a new feature request (the request to be submitted to beta, probably in 2020) would be to promote a designated Moderator (or Moderators) to Owner, if no Owner has logged in 30 days (or some other defined time)...
This has been discussed in the past.? I believe the subject originally came up 4 years ago in and got mingled in to the thread at 2 years ago.? A new topic, next year, is probably a good idea.? Hopefully something could be implemented that would satisfy everyone.

Right now, I'd give it 24 hours (or more.)? Normally indexing updates within an hour or less, but the huge load from the imports is causing delays.

One night's sleep later...

Perhaps you had tried it! I have done some tests elsewhere and these are the results:

If the Special checkbox is ticked then the hashtag will appear in the list of hashtags available to all members but if one of them uses it the post will not be sent and they will receive a warning sign that the hashtag is for use by moderators only.

However, if the Special checkbox and the Moderated checkbox are both ticked then all members can select it and use it in a post. Obviously the message in question is then presented to Moderators for moderation irrespective of the member's moderation status, i.e. even if they normally not moderated on this occasion they will be. If the moderator is happy that the message be sent as a Special Notice and approves the message then it will indeed be sent as a Special Notice.?

It is worth noting that it is the Topic that is moderated, not just the initial post (i.e. the Special Notice) and that there is no unmissable warning to the moderator that the post will be sent as a special notice; whoever moderates the message may have to be on the look - out for messages sneaking through with Special Notice hashtags appended!

Hope that helps...

Chris

Re: Fw: Data transfer - Yahoo to groups.io

I got a PM almost immediately.

For anyone following this thread, my issue was that my new laptop didn't have me in the memory on Yahoo yet, so asked me for my email.

Access to the Yahoo groups as a manager requires using your yahoo mail login, which is whatever user name and password you'd chosen.

Now that I'm back at my computer, Chrome remembered my details, and automatically filled the spaces, which logged me in.

So, my next trick will be to discover how to mark the issue closed!

Thanks to the unnamed (haven't had permission to quote his letter yet) benefactor.

This, and you could of course send out a message to all your Yahoo members telling them what¡¯s happening. You won¡¯t get those that are on special announcement only, but it¡¯s better than nothing I¡¯d think.

I'm happy the transfer of my Yahoo group succeeded.
Everything seems tob e o.k., except the search function in the message base.

Searching consistently result in a message: "The search produced no results".

It looks like the message archive is not indexed.

What can I do to correct this? In a genealogical group a search option is essential.

Nothing; just sit and wait. See from Mark on beta.

Re: October 28th

Yes, wait and see what happens is all we can do. One of my groups currently being transferred is now at stage 3 (import to groups.io) with 420 groups ahead. The queue seems to be growing...
