Moderation and Records of Editing #moderation

Is there any record of edits made to moderated posts?

All I can find is a record saying that a post was approved. I was expecting to see some record in the approved post to let readers know that this was not necessarily what the original poster wrote.

First, thank you everyone who responded.

Bruce, with regard to your question, the email provider is Cox Communications here in Phoenix, Arizona.

Chris,

Don't take my word on that, I haven't looked into it as a matter of law.

AIUI in the UK there does not have to be a clear possibility of a
physical threat; all that is needed is for the material in question
(emails) to cause /alarm, harassment & distress/.
That may be true here as well. I was only suggesting that one may apply some personal judgement in order to decide if it is worth engaging the police on the matter.

Re: New topic in wiki? #wiki #settings

Ken,

Francis I added some suggested edits (yellow)
The yellow highlighter is unnecessary, and creates more work to remove the highlighting when accepting a change.

Each wiki page keeps a list of revisions, and can generate a highlighted diff between any two selected revisions. Click on the revision count in the upper right corner of the page to see them. Note: the diff algorithm operates on the plain text of the page revisions, ignoring formatting changes.

Francis I added some suggested edits (yellow)
(sorry among other things I'm a techno editor for a living.]

just note that over on Beta, some of us are pushing to have menus and groups.io terms changed to be more consistent, and menu items better ((accurately) reflect what they actually contain.

e.g., use "My Settings" vs "Subscription"
and so forth

Re: Threating Emails

Debbie,

What can I do to stop an person I remove from threatening me and my
members
If they were foolish enough to post a threat to any Groups.io group use the More menu under their post and select "Report this message". Select the option to have the report go to support and groups.io. If the message has already been deleted from the group, but you have a copy of it in your email, report it to [email protected]

If the threats are being made off list then as Chris said you would report it to the service they used to send the threat.

Safety first though: if you think there is a chance they have the ability to carry out a threat physically then report it to your local police, to have it on file if nothing else.

In any case, do not respond to them. Try not to reveal in any way that you even read their threats - for some types of crazy that's all the encouragement they need.

Member account suspended

A member of my discussion group forwarded me the following email message. I recall that a member can have their account suspended because the ISP is doing something IO does not like (I don't remember what). The member is supposed to get an email message from IO that allows the person to make their account active again. Is the message below this email message? I am sure it is, but since this is the first time this has happened I need to make sure it is so that I don't give the wrong advice.
Stan

Hello,

Recently, emails sent to you have bounced back to us. This can be for many reasons, including:

- We have an incorrect email address for you.
- Your account was or is full.
- Other temporary delivery issues.

To view the error messages we receive from your email server, click here </account?page=bounces>.

We have suspended email delivery to you. This means you will no longer receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to, including:

* [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
* [email protected]
<mailto:[email protected]>

You must take action to restore your account. To unbounce your account, go to the following link:

/unbounce?email=Person@Domaint&cookie=5526591513206842612 </[email protected]&cookie=5526591513206842612>

Thank you,

Owners, and Moderators who have been given the "Invite Members" privilege, can send invitations. Regular Subscribers or Moderators without this permission cannot.

Having said that, if you don't want people to be able to join on their own initiative (via the +subscribe address or the button on the group home page), you should also be sure to use the Restricted method of Spam Control.

And could someone I invited pass that e-mail link to a different person for them to use to join?
No. The link only works to subscribe the email address it has been sent to.

In the early days I would not have understood what this was. I would not be able to tell you are talking about starting a new topic, nor would? I know what you meant by "populate."
I like the tone of Kathleen's note, but would include instructions like yours. I tend to make my instructions very simple.
I think I'd put your explanation of hijacking near the top and then something like:

Step 2
Like a recipe. :)

ps. I like things so basic that I really appreciate how you folks always remind, "Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and click the button to save your changes." (I hope it's not "hijacking" to add that off-topic thanks.) Bless you all for the help you provide.

Click on Admin then Members; this will bring up a list of all your members.

Find the individual member whose Notes you wish to see, and click on their entry in the list anywhere other than the checkbox. This will take you to that individual's membership page, where you can see their User Name (if set), Display Name (ditto) and mail preference, etc.

At the top of the page there are 5 tabs; as a default the Membership tab will appear in blue with the others being grey.? Notes is the 4th tab from the left, and will turn from grey to blue when you click on it.

Write such notes are as required and click on Update below the composition box.

Re: Members and Notes

Marcio,

?
A few days ago I saw someone mentioning something about members note, a place where we, mods and owners, can write things about members. How can I found it on my group?
?
When you open a member's page (from the Members list) Notes is one of the tabs.
?
A key weakness with this mechanism, in my opinion, is that there's no flag on the list itself or other easy method to tell if a member has a note or what it says. You have to open each Membership page and click the tab to find out.

Re: Notice to group

loopy,

I am trying to send an email to my group every Thursday evening.? i have the note completed under 'note to member' but can't see where to?put the date and time etc. that the email is supposed to go.

A Note to Member cannot be scheduled to send to the group. The only Member Notice that can is Group Guidelines, and its only schedule selection is "monthly".

I've done it back in the beginning but can't for the life of me find it now.

Perhaps you created a repeating event in the Group's calendar. You can give a time to be sent and under Repeats select Weekly and Repeat On Thursday. Don't set any reminders, instead check the Send Notice To Group When Event Happens box.
