How to display time of posting

A member in my group asked this question: Can the time be displayed on the messages posted??

Before I answer, I have done a bit of research and found that on the email client I use, the time is always displayed. I don't know how other client programs handle this. However, when looking at posts using the web browser (I use Chrome; others may handle this differently), the time of the posts are only displayed for the current calendar day. Posts from previous days only show the date.?

I vaguely recall this topic being discussed before in this group, but I couldn't find it using the search function.?

Is there a way to force the time of posting to display on all messages? Am I missing a setting? Or is this something I should take to the beta list?

Dave

Re: Polls

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

¡°So now I am thinking that this is a BUG.....

All members regardless of their posting privileges should be able to vote in a poll.¡±

?

Maybe all members should be able to vote in a poll no matter what their posting privileges are in your group, but not in my group. Until a member posts at least one thing for me to approve, so I can try and determine they are not going to be a problem, they don¡¯t get to participate in polls or posting to the group.

Re: Polls

At this time that cannot happen unless you give all the members posting privileges in the group. If you are the only one able to post to the group, then you will be the only one able to vote in the poll at this time.
?
What I?think needs to happen if you write to support letting Mark know that you'd like that option too and others write to support saying they would like that option?and it isn't?only me that asked about it, then maybe it will happen quicker. ?
?
What it think happened over this past year or so, many of the graphic art type groups moved to groups IO. From the discussions I have read in this GMF group, most of the group owner's needs are different from ours who run graphic art type groups.

Mark answered my support question pretty quickly.

Thanks for the suggestion. It would not be a quick or easy change. I'll add it to the TODO list for consideration, but I'm not sure if or when it will happen.?

Yes and no.? A poll is a message, so those that can't post shouldn't be able to respond.? I do agree (I think) that anyone should be able to vote in a poll though.? Mark may be able to tweak this if you send a report to support.

Re: Is there a quick link to existing polls?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Your poll must be working well because all of the members have posting privileges in the group.
?
Go to the Homepage of the group.
?
Scroll down to the bottom and you will see #poll
Click on that and it will take you to the poll.

I see lots of discussions about polls, but here's something very basic I can't figure out.? I created a poll and it is in progress and working well.? The members comment that it is easy to use.? If I am on the homepage of the group I cannot find a direct link in the left column leading me to the poll.? There are links for files, databases, and creating a new poll, but I can't find one for an existing poll.? I know I can link to it via the message announcing its creation, just wondering if there's another link that I'm not seeing.

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Polls

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Okay you?said you won't want to join a group where you couldn't post.
Let me explain about this group. We are a group of over 700 members.
?
This?group is a Signature?Tag group. Members join to get?signature tags that they can use in their email that are personalized with their name.?
?
The members who offer these tags for free are the only ones who are allowed to post to the group. They put up tag offers where the members then reply (replies go to the sender) and they request the tag to have their name added to it.
?
So there isn't any reason for all the members being able?to post to the group.?
?
But in the case of the poll, it involved all the members feedback.
I started playing games for tags in the group. Most members when playing the game enjoyed them but I wanted to find out if the majority of the members wanted the games to continue. That was the reason for needing the feedback from the members in the poll. I didn't need all the extra mail coming from them telling me their thoughts and how they couldn't vote.

Re: Owner not showing up on member list

Michael,
You're right..."infinite?scroll" does not work on databases.? We have a database with 38 rows that displayed on 2 pages with "infinite scroll" setting.? Switched to "100 per page" and now on one page.? Thanks again for the tip on finding that option!

Re: Is there a quick link to existing polls?

The quickest way I've found is to select Hashtags on the left menu, then choose the #Poll tag.? That will get a list of all of them and you can choose the one you want from there.? If you have very many, using a direct link/bookmark would be faster.

I agree it isn't obvious!

Click on Messages or Topics just beside the search box. Polls is an item in the dropdown menu.

Re: Polls

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Okay I did a test on my own and my conclusion on polls is as follows:
?
Beck wrote to this group GMF saying she couldn't see my poll therefore she couldn't vote. She is in my group. She didn't have posting privileges in the group. I had found that only members?who could send mail to the group were able to vote. So what I did was?change her status so she could post to the group...............?and wrote to her privately letting her know I changed her status and to try again to vote.
?
Well now that she can post to the group she was able to vote in the poll.?
?
So now I am thinking that this is a BUG.....
All members regardless of their posting privileges should?be able to vote in a poll.

?
I sent an email about a poll a while ago and didn't receive any answer.
?
I created a poll to a group where only a handful of members out of 703 members can post to the group.?
?
It seems the only members who were able to vote in the poll were the members who can post mail to the group. The others received messages back saying the poll was unavailable to them.
?
I went over the list of things they needed to do, like make sure they were signed in.
Only to receive a note from one member saying "I am NOT DUMB" I was signed in.
?
Now a?member rejoined because she accidently removed herself while trying to vote in the poll and before I could change her status so she can't post in the group, she voted.
?
So now I am beginning to think that only members who can write to the group can vote in polls. Ilene

Re: Owner not showing up on member list

I'll try "Infinite Scroll" for a while and see how it works.
I tried ¡°infinite Scroll¡±, however there was something about it (I forget what) that did not apply universally as do all the finite choices. I now use "100 per page¡±.

Re: Why does OBO appear in posts?

Ken,

See examples below. Some come thru from IO as ¡°On behalf of¡± and some
come thru with a different header.
The ones that come through as "Display name via Groups.io" are those whose address has been rewritten to work around DMARC. This affects Yahoo Mail, AOL, and certain other sending services.

The ones that come through as "[email protected] On Behalf Of Display name" I don't see in my email interfaces (Gmail on the web or in Thunderbird, or Gmail mobile). I'm going to guess that's how your email interface chooses to handle messages that are sent through a mailing list.

How to control how the header comes thru?
I don't believe you can for the via case. Maybe through settings in your email interface for the OBO case.

Shal

These could have been a carry-over from the transfer for those that had a setting of 'never moderated' (or whatever YG! calls it.)? These should have been there all along, but you may have never noticed them.? Since your group wasn't previously moderated, it wouldn't have made any difference in the posting procedures.

If these were actually changed from M to P when you put the group on moderation, that would definitely be a bug to report to support.

Re: Posts passing without being approved

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Duane, are you sure you understood my question? Or maybe I didn?t express it well enough ¡.

?

Members that always require approval will have a blue M (setting of Override: moderated.)? Those with the blue P will always be able to post (setting of Override: not moderated).? Because of special situations that may arise, such as yours, it's usually not a good idea to use the P setting.? These settings are in effect regardless of group settings.

I never set s.o. on P. The system did. It changed M into P without me doing anything (just concerning those few members) when I set the whole group on moderated. I wanted to know if this is a bug or a system-logic procedure¡
