It isn't likely to be a bug.

A message will need approval if:
  • the posting member's Posting Privileges is set to Override: moderated;
  • the posting member's Posting Privileges is set to Override: new user moderated and their approval count is non-zero;
  • the posting member's Posting Privileges is set to Use Group Moderation Setting and the Moderated box is checked in the Spam Control section of the group's Settings page;
  • the Allow Non Subscribers to Post box is checked in the Message Policies section of the groups Settings page and the posting email address is not currently in the group's Members list;
  • the message Subject contains a hashtag with the Moderated box checked;
  • the Automatically Moderate Topics Older Than x days box is checked in the Message Policies section of the group's Settings page and the message is a reply to an older topic;
  • the message is a reply to a topic that a moderator? has manually set to Moderate Topic; or
  • the Viruses option is set to Moderated in the Message Policies section of the group's Settings page and the message contains suspected malware.

Did I forget any?

Re: #hashtags #bug Lots of messages "need approval" #hashtags #bug

There is a setting for unmoderating new members after a specific number of posts. If they are relatively new posters, perhaps that is the problem.
Go to Admin, Settings (it is the first one, not Default Sub Settings).
Scroll down to Spam Control.
Change the Unmoderate after to a number you prefer - perhaps 1 message.

Hope this is it!

#hashtags #bug Lots of messages "need approval" #hashtags #bug

Dear all,

We recently set up a group in which all subscribers are able to post messages without moderation. However, a huge number of messages end up in moderation ("Message Approval Needed") for no reason we can discern. We use hashtags in the group: originally they were set to be compulsory, but we unticked that option to see if solved the problem. However, it still persists. Our moderator thinks it may have some relation to URLs in messages, but some messages without URLs have been held up in the queue too. We are really not sure what the source of this problem could be, any suggestions would be welcome.

Andy

Thank You, I didn't know that.

I entered their email address in lowercase?letters.
Now?when their email shows up in the membership list it is all caps. It is the only member out of the 350 members that I have in that group?whose email address is showing up in all capital letters. Ilene ?

The site determines the name to use from the email address you enter.? If you just send to an email address, it will use that.? If you enter it as Joe Smith <email@ domain.com>? (without the space, needed here so you can see it all), it will use Joe Smith.

About Invitations

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I know you can add a message when you send out an invitation but how do you substitute a member's name when the top portion says:
?
Hello [Name]
?
Thanks, Ilene

Re: Display Names Monitoring #codesofconduct

Yes but I was wondering if there is a way to get a notification pushed or emailed.

Re: Bouncing - what now?

A GMF message archive search on "too much email" turned up this thread:??/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/24553696

Hope this helps,

Re: Not receiving verification emails

I assume you checked the member's email delivery history to ensure the emails were sent successfully...
I have my own domain hosted at Name.com and email is screened at pobox.com (MX domain records direct mail to pobox servers).? What pobox doesn't toss out ends up at my gmail account.
I found pobox more reliable than mail forwarding by domain host.

Hashtagging your messages #hashtags

Hi,

Can I suggest that people hashtag their messages?

It makes retrieving old messages easier.
You can use search for #invitations, for example, with the pound sign (#).
Or click on # Hashtags in the menu. Then click on the tag and it will pull up the associated messages.
You can use more than one - #howto #split

Hashtags are useful tools for organizing information. It may also focus your mind when you are writing!

Perhaps it is just the librarian in me!

A member in a group I am a moderator is bouncing. The message reads "452 4.1.1 Too much mail from this address E2210". What does that mean? What is to be done? It is a charter.net address.

Barbara

It's a Charter problem... they don't care much about customer service so they do this sort of blocking arbitrarily. there are plenty of other places sending far more email to them, but they don't know Groups.io. Your subscriber should call Charter support and complain... and he/she should have a full copy of the message in hand when doing so. He will probably have to ask for the complaint to be "escalated" to higher level support before he stands a chance of getting it resolved. And when he gets someone who has a clue he needs to tell them that Groups.io is a groups site just like Yahoogroups and GoogleGroups and shouldn't be blocked.

Yeah, I know, subscribers throw up their hands when told this, but Charter (and others) don't listen to non-customers so there's not a lot of choice.

Asked and answered here -> </g/GroupManagersForum/message/2975> and
</g/GroupManagersForum/message/11620>
and many other places.

Found with this query -> </g/GroupManagersForum/search?q=invitations+approval>

The questions about this probably would stop if the message that says approval is needed also contained an explanation of why approval is required.

Re: Not receiving verification emails

OK, apparently Mimecast was screening them on my work domain, but I've fixed that now. So it's just my stupid vanity domain...I think I need to switch hosting providers.?

Oh well, at least I am not worried so much about new members running into this issue.?

Thanks Toby.

Perhaps that could get added into an FAQ somewhere?

Thanks, the problem is with already subscribed members sending emails to the group from gmail addresses. It has been a problem since I created the group 6 months ago.?
