Hm.. when you ask that way, I went and had a look at the source.
No flash there.

What I did find was a row of html which AdBlock+ had hidden as being "intrusive social networking stuff" I guess.
Presumably because the .btn-social class on the <a> tags.

OK, I guess I should not be so hard on groups.io then.
The text underneath makes a lot more sense now :-)

However adblocking is getting kind of common, and there is this this webdesign thing called graceful degradation..

Tks for the reply Duane, but you've got me flummoxed. Checking out my Account on the upper right hand corner under my name there is now Preferences? Am I looking in the wrong place??

Re: Editing Files

I used the sidebar function in the Wiki to create a list of leaders in our group. You can also put a "sticky" wiki page that sits on top of your message board, though it only shows a few lines of text and then an option to see the whole thing. One other option is to create a database, that would be easily edited and downloaded.

gMail and Aliases

One of my group members has had problems with a ¡°send mail as¡± address. He gave me the information below. I don¡¯t totally understand it but thought someone here might.

Sharon

In plain English, this kicks in if one uses gmail to handle other accounts, using the

Send mail as:
(Use Gmail to send from your other email addresses)

...feature in the gmail settings.

What happens is that gmail puts the "send mail as" address for the desired account in the 'from' field of the sent message.

but it also adds a 'sender' field in the message headers, with the base account address in it (the actual gmail user login address), which is not the same as the 'from' address.

Apparently the groups.io software looks at the 'sender' field, if there is one, and uses that to determine list membership. Since in this case it doesn't match a subscribed address (which is in the 'from' field), the message is rejected.

Sorry. ? I did not initially see your post. ?I have just started using both groups.io and Slack. ?
In groups.io, settings, member sync, I just set up member sync between the two groups called unbamateurradioclub. ?I am the owner of both groups. ?i had to authenticate with Slack. ?At the moment it seems to work. ?Thank you.

Re: Editing Files

Shal,

Files seems like a more logical place for what I'm storing on the Groups.io site, but looks like wiki will certainly work.? Thanks!

Maureen

Re: Editing Files

Maureen,

?Is there a way to create a new file (not transferred from Yahoo!) in Groups.io which can be edited "in place"??

For in place editing use your group's wiki.

Re: Editing Files

Duane, thanks for the quick reply.? I'll stop going in circles now, and I'll keep an eye open for possible Files updates.
Thanks so much,

Does anyone still depend on Flash for any functionality!?
That's just asking for trouble.
It must be years now, since Google among others started deprecating Flash.

Gaute

I sure do hope GIO isn't depending on Flash! It poses a significant security risk to anyone running it.

Flash is in use by less than 5% of websites... down from ~29% in 2011... and still falling because many users have uninstalled it and thus don't have a good experience on sites using it.

It has been deprecated by its publisher, Adobe Systems, who plan to "end-of-life" it in 2020.

Re: Editing Files

There is currently no 'in place' editing for files, but it has been requested on the beta group, the official suggestion box for the site.? Text files shouldn't be too difficult, but other formats may never happen.

No, the notification goes out as soon as the mass invite is approved.? The confirmation by the invitee would happen after that.

Editing Files

Perhaps I'm missing something very basic here, but here goes.? Is there a way to create a new file (not transferred from Yahoo!) in Groups.io which can be edited "in place"?? Yahoo! Groups offered the option to create a text file that could subsequently be easily edited while in the site.?

I am trying to create a simple file of a list of officers for an art guild.? I would like to be able to edit the names within Groups.io Files as needed.? What I find now is that I have to create a .pdf document outside of Groups.io and then bring it in.? If I want to edit the document it seems I have to do that in my own "outside" files and then swap the files out in Groups.io?

Maureen

Re: Invitation Approval

I was wondering the same thing.? Apparently, invitees must first REPLY to G.io to confirm their email address first, then G.io sends the notification to the Group Owner (which appears to be immediate).? I think the rate-limiting step is how long it takes the invitee to confirm their email address.

Re: Invitation Approval

When more than 20 invitations (or direct adds on paid groups) are done within 24 hours, there's a quick check done to try to head off spammers.? If you don't get approved in 24 hours, I'd contact [email protected]

Invitation Approval

I sent invitations to a list as instructed. ?Then a message appeared at the top of the screen that said "Once your invites have been approved, they will be sent. ?You will receive a notification when this happens." ?What is the "approval" process performed by G.io? ?How long does it take? ?How do I monitor progress? ?Who may i contact if there is an issue with this process?
Thank you.

It should happen automatically.? (I don't believe there are any settings for this.)? If it's not, you should contact [email protected] with all the details you can supply.

My experience would tend to support that assertion. I wonder if (a) the use of Pending Subscription messages somehow disrupts the timing activity, or (b) resending P/S messages by moderator intervention somehow resets or otherwise disrupts the timer mechanism.

Pending member expiration

debbie

The pending member notices say "NOTE: The pending subscription will expire after 14 days. If you do not take action within that time, the pending subscription will be automatically rejected.", but it never happens. Is there some setting that I have to change to make it happen?
