Re: Non-Subscribers
I think the only way to allow main group members to post freely in a subgroup is for them to be members of the subgroup.? You do have the option of adding them yourself though.

Non-Subscribers
In a subgroup setting, there is a choice to let non subscribers post. It is 'Allow non subscribers to post.' The description of this setting says 'Posts by non-subscribers will be moderated, instead of rejected.' Does this mean that all posts from members of the main group will be moderated? Can I set them to be not moderated after their first post?
Ideally, I would like members of the main group (who have passed the main group criteria to not be moderated) to not be moderated, even initially, when they post in the subgroup, and to be able to read and post in the subgroup without having to join the subgroup. Checking off 'Allow non subscribers to post' I believe resolves the latter, but it still appears they will be moderated. Stan |

No Messages Transferred After 2013
One of the groups I have been working on getting transferred was done today and the e-mail that I received indicated that the transfer went well as only 5 messages were listed as not being transferred. However, now that I go into the group, there are no messages starting in June of 2013. Any idea what happened? Is this something that I can request to be put back into the queue for??

Sorry for the redundancy. Both of those messages I just sent (from my phone) were returned to me as bounces. Now that I'm back on my computer, I see that they did reach the group. Something seems to be weird with messages sent via email.

Privacy
There are two choices in the Privacy section of Setting:
Listed in Directory, Private Archives Not Listed in Directory, Private Archives I assume archives being private means non-members if the main group cannot view the content of messages. The only thing non-members see is a monthly table containing the number of posts for each day. Is this correct? I do not understand the significance of being listed in the Directory, or not being listed, mostly because I do not know what the Directory is. With respect to subgroups, I want members of the main group who are not members of the subgroup to be able to view messages, but to hide messages from non-members of the main group. Is the appropriate setting Listed in Directory, Public Viewable Archives? Stan |

Victoria, You must set your group to Restricted. Please check your spam control settings. If it is set to Restricted already, the only other possibility is that another moderator in your group is approving the memberships. You can check your moderator activity log to see if that¡¯s happening. But my guess is that you failed to set your group to Restricted .

None of this can be happening unless either (a) you failed to set your group to ¡®restricted¡¯ or (b) another moderator is approving membership applications. Can you please check your ¡®spam control¡¯ settings and make sure your group is restricted? If so: Do you have more than one moderator in the group? If so, check your moderator activity log to see if another moderator is approving membership requests.

Re: subscription proceedings - that questionnaire again
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane, ? It sounds to me like you don't have your group set to Restricted Membership in the Spam Control area of the Settings page.? If that's not set, the Pending Subscription notice won't be sent. this really wasn?t set. Instead I had ¡°new users require approval¡±. Oh my god, so much to learn! Thanks. Victoria --- ? |

subscription proceedings - that questionnaire again
J,
As you explained to me I put our questionnaire in a member notice which is activated. The usual procedure is that someone wants to join and signs up to the group. He then must confirm the email adress. At this moment I get the usual mail saying: "This is to notify you that .......has joined your group [email protected]." When I look this up in my members list, I see that person?s mail adress and the NuM sign behind it. In this first test case I?m in private mail contact with that person, and she wrote me that she didn?t get the questionnaire. This was hours ago. I haven?t got any further notice from groups.io either. Must I unmoderate this person first, and then he gets the questionnaire? Or at what exact step is she supposed to take to receive it? Or which step must I take? Confusing.... Mustn?t she get the questionnaire before I unmoderate her? At the moment for me that?s the most important question, for I must know beforehand who joins our group. We?ve always handled it like that in YG. Quite concerned Victoria |
That Address is not valid
I am trying to create a subgroup. I have already created two, and this third one is giving me a problem. When I try enter a group email address for the subgroup, it comes back and says 'That Address is not Valid'. The address I am using is
Scientifically-Unaccepted-Theories I have tried this a number of times and even logged off and went back in. What could be the problem? Stan |

Thanks for the time in making the reply. I'm swamped right now with all the little nuances that are popping up with the transfer of almost 2,000 members--I will spend more time reviewing your reply then get back to you if I have more questions. YOU are one of the MAIN reasons I've moved from Yahoo to Groups.io, so THANKS!!!! Harlan hsteinle@... -----Original Message-----

There has been some speculation in another thread that some of this results from members who wanted to unsubscribe from the Yahoo Group, but due to glitches were unable to do so. Now, presented the opportunity afresh, they took it. > I added my OWN wording in the space I was allowed to add, but I > couldn't change the 'canned groups.io' wording ... I'm a little confused by this. The Invite type of Member Notice has boilerplate, but it isn't used during a transfer. The Welcome type of Member notice is used, if Active, but you control the entirety of that message body. There is also, if you don't uncheck it, a "You have been added to ..." message from Groups.io, but you cannot provide any text to that -- unless that is a Premium feature? > ... so I also had a lot of people go directly TO the groups.io page > and things REALLY got confusing to them as they thought they had to > subscribe again and misinterpreted the coverpage thinking they could > use hashtags (I have that function unavailable to members right now) > wiki (also disabled right now) etc and when they couldn't they sentme > one of hundreds of emails I've gotten this morning. Oh, you mean they went to the Groups.io home page first, and saw the feature description for the product? Heh. The groups I've transferred have all been fairly small (a few hundred members) and had gone fairly dormant prior to the transfer. So I haven't had a lot of experience yet with members confused by all the features of Groups.io.
