Re: Owner dead, only moderators left

Mark Wardell (AG7HH)
As I added as a moderator of our Yahoo group specifically so I could move us to Groups.io, and I didn't seem to have any problems. I told the owner he may get an email asking for approval, but I think that ended up going to all of the moderators so I replied and it was done. So as someone else said, as long as you can add the Groups.io account as a moderator and set the appropriate permissions for them I would think you're good to go. Re: Totally private group?
Yes, you can definitely do that.? You can set it for "Not listed in the directory, private archives".? You'd want to make sure that all members must be approved to join.? If you set up a Group Guidelines notice, you'd also need to set that so only group members could see it.? You may need to go to some of the other sections of the Settings page to make sure nothing is set for public view, Calendar and Wiki come to mind.

Some YG moderators can add another moderator (not all YG moderators have this authority). Barring that, you can down load the list of members e-mail addresses.? Groups.io lets you invite new members a 100 at a time. I considered that option for 1800 members but then the transfer went through.? PG Offline may be able to let a moderator back up the databases, it seems more for list owners; I asked if moderators could download but didn't get a reply.? My backup plan was to have a couple of fellow members back up the files and photos sections to upload to groups.io. The big concern for some is the archived messages.? Some lists purge messages after a few weeks.? Do you need the messages archive? ken "It has always seemed strange to me," said Doc. "The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success."? Steinbeck - Cannery Row ? [mod note: I don't believe Groups.io invites are limited in number, but over a certain number (20?) the invites will be temporarily held pending for review by Groups.io.] ? Totally private group?
I am seriously considering migrating my Yahoo Group, but, and its a big one.? Can all access be limited to only members? Our group is a Sheriff's volunteers with some sensitive postings, data base items (phone numbers), calendar (location of DUI checkpoints), etc. The access must be limited for the site to be useful to us, we have had a private Yahoo group for over 11 years.? Just not listing in the directory is not enough security.? Looking through the settings and messages on this forum I can't seem to figure out if this is possible. Thanks in advance, Pete ? |

I believe that's a FB group, not a page, since it asks me to sign in.? I'm not very familiar with FB though.

If you can create an account that is also a moderator you are halfway there.

Backup your membership list, files, and databases to your computer, for a start. Your photos as well, if you have room. To move to groups. io you need to make it a moderator, and I think that takes an owner. I believe you can upload from your computer, however. Re: Attachments
Sharon,
How do you?set your Groups.io group to no attachments?? I don't see that option under settings, and it looks like the default (only?) option is to allow attachments., I'm just beginning the transition of a 750-member group from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io and am trying to understand attachment options.? Our group has many yachts at? sea or in locations where bandwidth is severely limited, so a no-attachment policy (as we have on YG) is what we need. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks, Milt |

Re: Managing bouncers
#membership
To save a bit of time you can go to the "Members" pull down menu at the top of the Members list page and select "Bouncing". This will display all of the Bouncing or Bounced members in your group so you don't have to scroll through the entire list.
