Re: banning a member from ever joining a groups.io list

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi I think if they are banded from your yahoo group, you will get a confirmation saying if you are sure you want to band this member. You say yes and that it is. They will not move on with the group. They are dropped.

Hi,
? My question is related to this - but not "spot on".

? What happens to Banned Members of a yahoo group during the transfer?
Do they get transferred over and stay banned?? Do they just get dropped
(not transferred)?

That could work, however I have ?people and deal with people that still after 10 years of email and?learning ?they still can't and will not understand ?the spam thing.?They always think ?they've ben hacked when they update their system and they make a new email account if they forget their password. Yeah.?Good luck teaching these folks. I finally told them, forget it, you are on your own. I can't teach you. ?One person I ?know has 15 email accounts because they forgot passowrds or just want to create them, will not look at a screen when setting up software ?so they do it wrong and use the wrong account etc. It's a mess.

That's true. I think that's the *majority* of cases. I've never had a member unsubscribed who was actually aware that a message had been marked as spam.

Go to Settings, Member Notices, Group Guidelines. You can configure the Group Guidelines page to be sent every month by clicking on the right boxes there. It's called Group Guidelines but can contain whatever you want. Here is some documenation I wrote up about it but which has yet to appear anywhere public.
J

The Group Guidelines notice is a unique type that provides a convenient and versatile way to communicate and maintain the group¡¯s posting and conduct guidelines. It has the following features and options:

?

Unlike the other notice types, a group can create at most one Group Guidelines notice. If created, a Guidelines tab will automatically appear on the group home page. The rest of the features are optional and are specified as follows when creating or editing the notice:

?

Subject - the subject line of the message as it appears in the group archives, if mailed monthly to the group.

?

Email subject ¨C the subject line of the email when the notice is sent to a group member separately from the monthly message to the group

?

Private - if this box is checked, the Guidelines tab on the group¡¯s home page will be visible only to group members. If unchecked, the tab will be visible to the public.

?

Send on Join - if this box is checked, the Guidelines will be sent automatically via email to new members

?

Send monthly to the group -if this box is checked, the Guidelines will be sent as a message to the group on the 1st of each month. Note: we send the message with the #guidelines hashtag, which, if it doesn¡¯t already exist, is created with a topic duration of one month, causing the archived message to be automatically deleted after one month in deference to the next monthly message. The hashtag is set to ¡°Use by moderators only¡± and ¡°replies by moderators only,¡± so that no non-moderators can use the it.

?

Send monthly to special - this box appears only if ¡°Sent monthly to the group¡± has been checked. If checked, the monthly Guidelines message to the group will be sent as a special notice, so that members whose email delivery option is Special Notice Only will receive it (in addition to members whose email delivery is All Messages). In this case, the #guidelines hashtag is also set to ¡°Special.¡±

Re: Transfer of files from YahooGroups

Hi Joe,

After reading your comment, I went back and looked at the group I transferred before Verizon/Yahoo started this last round of problems. All of my files transferred in their subfolders. I do remember looking at some of the files in one of my Verizon/Yahoo groups and having empty subfolders when the craziness was at its peak. Fortunately or unfortunately, all of my files appear to be intact in Yahoo so I think I'll restart transferring to Groups.io, while it may work. I have backed up all of my active groups using PG Offline, so if they don't transfer, I can upload them to Groups.io.

I just went through this with many of my groups I transferred over from yahoo to IO. I found the first groups I had transferred I left the files in the folders. The folders were transferred over but were empty. The other groups that I was going to have transferred over I took all the files out of the folders and pasted then just in the files section. Now I had the files as well as empty folders in the yahoo group. When Group.IO Tech copied the files from the yahoo group over to Io group the files as well as the empty folders were copied over. In the New group I then just had to move the files back into the correct empty folder in the new group.

Email integration, what is it?

Integration?? What is it? How do we use it?

Sure wish there were instructions for groups.io.

I clicked on Integration, then email. But no where did it give me a place to put in a message.

Anyone use this feature.?

I use Yahoo mail and the Delete key on my keyboard to delete mails. My son uses a tablet and an android phone plus ( not old fashioned ) computer, and has no problems deleting mails. The recent change to Yahoo mails interface offers a Bin icon on the right of a mail for deleting mails, perhaps they haven't realised it yet. All three users are actually using a single mail handler,? Yahoo, AOL were acquired by Verizon and have been rebranded, their new name, OATH, quite ironic as most swearwords are oaths and Yahoo caused me to use plenty of them.

How do I go about doing this?? I assume that it can be done, just doing two transfers, one after another?

Re: [email protected] Message Received By Non-Owner of Yapoo

Tim,

Sorry, Duane, "moderators that receive owner messages"?
In a Yahoo Group that's all of them. Messages sent to the -owner address are forwarded to all owners and all moderators.

In a Groups.io group that could be all of them, subject to each mod or owner's option. Each may choose to receive all +owner messages, only those from members, or none of them.

I can't see any settings on Yapoo that set that particular aspect.
In Yahoo Groups there isn't any. It isn't optional.

Shal

I'll leave that to someone that's still on Y!? I left almost 5 years ago, so not sure where it might be hidden, but I'm pretty sure it exists.

It isn't clear how they would prevent it. Short of removing the Manage
Members list as a feature.
I agree, There's no obvious solution.

While the law might consider Groups.io's transfer agent a "third party"
in a way that is distinct from the group moderators (who may also be
considered third parties), as a practical matter it is the role of
moderator that gives the transfer agent access to the information.

So it would seem a bit odd to hold Yahoo accountable for the transfer of
information, even though their systems gave up the info, because those
systems were operating under (what would appear to Yahoo as) proper
authorization.
We could see lawyers having protracted (and lucrative for them) arguments over
that sort of thing.
