Re: banning a member from ever joining a groups.io list
Hi,
? My question is related to this - but not "spot on". ? What happens to Banned Members of a yahoo group during the transfer? Do they get transferred over and stay banned?? Do they just get dropped (not transferred)? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?- Jim B. |
Users having trouble deleting messages
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI'm in the process of moving a group over from Yahoo.? I've got three people complaining that they can't delete messages after they've read them like they could on Yahoo.? They all believe the delete message thing was a Yahoo feature (a button) that they don't have here and they're accumulating all kinds of messages that they can't delete.?? Their emails are associated with three different providers (Yahoo, AOL and Verizon) and I know at least two of them use tablets/phones and one an old fashioned computer.? I'm having problems understanding their problems as I never noticed a "delete" button on the messages from Yahoo and I believe this was an email client function.? ? ? I've sent each of them a message asking what email clients they're using and I've asked them to delete the message from me, tell me how they did it, and then try doing exactly the same thing on a groups.io message the same way and tell me what's different about the process if it doesn't work.? ? I'd write this off as people just not being very computer literate but with three people in the same boat, I'm wondering if there is something going on.? Has anyone else run into this with their formerly-of-Yahoo user base?? ? Janet |
Re: [email protected] Message Received By Non-Owner of Yapoo
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSorry, Duane, "moderators that receive owner messages"?? I can't see any settings on Yapoo that set that particular aspect.? Can you point out where it is, please? Thanks. Tim On 26/01/18 14:20, Duane wrote:

[email protected] Message Received By Non-Owner of Yapoo
This standard message, that the process instructions say just goes to the YG Owner (me) seems to have gone out to Moderators as well.? As you can imagine in a group with 10 Moderators, most of which are not involved in the transfer, this has caused some chaos.
Have I misread what was supposed to happen? (This relates to the second group I've helped transfer this month, and it didn't happen for the first one as far as I know). Thanks. |
Re: Is The Subscription Link Editable?
Mark,
Because joining this group requires that the prospectiveNo, but it has been proposed a few different ways in beta@. It isn't quite the same thing, but in the Member Notices tab of your Group's settings you can create a "Pending Subscription" notice. This will be emailed to the prospect when they click the button or use the email +subscribe command. The notice will go to the member From the group's +owner address, so make sure at least one moderator has enabled the receipt of owner messages from non-members. Shal |
Re: Data protection
Jim,
... and someone being transferred automatically from Yahoo groups orIt isn't clear how they would prevent it. Short of removing the Manage Members list as a feature. ... but I think the main problem would be theirs for passing onWhile the law might consider Groups.io's transfer agent a "third party" in a way that is distinct from the group moderators (who may also be considered third parties), as a practical matter it is the role of moderator that gives the transfer agent access to the information. So it would seem a bit odd to hold Yahoo accountable for the transfer of information, even though their systems gave up the info, because those systems were operating under (what would appear to Yahoo as) proper authorization. Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWould I maybe use this to be sent to a list if ?I maybe need to ?warn them of something let's ?say to say any more actions like the ones by our members and?this list will be in moderation??This way I would not hav to write this over and over and over again if that's the case?

Re: question how to set up
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere's been a thread on this very topic this week. You may want to go back and re-read that thread since it has a lot of helpful information.Basically, Admin > Settings > Member Notices? On 1/25/2018 5:47 PM,

Transfer of files from YahooGroups
In then Files section of my YahooGroup we use a lot of folders and some have a hierarchical structure with a root level and sub levels. Provided Yahoo works properly is it possible for the automatic transfer process to transfer all the files in such a structure?

Re: Data protection
I think there's a significant difference here between someone joining groups.io
direct and giving their own information, and someone being transferred automatically from Yahoo groups or elsewhere. The latter could possibly be problematic under GDPR, and may lead Yahoo to prevent it to protect themselves. I'll check the wording when I get a few minutes (I've got a PDF copy, but it's a big document), but I think the main problem would be theirs for passing on personal details without prior permission. Is The Subscription Link Editable?
Mark Bielecki
My second question for the day about my new group:
The group is publicly listed by requires moderator approval to join. When a prospective subscriber/member clicks on the?"+ Apply For Membership In This Group" link the subscription page that pops up requests the prospective member's email address (see below). Because joining this group requires that the prospective subscriber/member meets certain eligibility requirements is it possible to edit that page to add a couple of qualifiers (such as "Are you a member of the XYZ profession or industry" or "Who referred you to this group") so as to reduce the necessity of multiple back and forth emails for prospective subscribers/members whose email addresses we don't recognize as belonging to somebody who meets the subscriber/membership criteria? Thanks in advance for your help! Best, Mark Bielecki ===========================? SCREEN CAPTURE OF SUBSCRIPTION PAGE BELOW ================================ [groupname]@groups.ioEmail Address
