Re: Missing messages

Thanks, Shai. Since it's only these two members that I know of, it just seems strange that they both use Yahoo mail.

Possibly. Or maybe "doubtful".

There is a "Group by conversation" feature in Yahoo Mail, so that might
confuse them if they weren't used to it. But it seems unlikely that they
would have changed that setting coincidentally. And the one
"conversation" I have in my inbox doesn't seem confusing: the list shows
a number for the number of messages, and opening the conversation shows
the messages in one tall scroll.

One thing I noticed recently was they invited me to try the "new" inbox.
I think they rolled that out some months ago, but I very rarely visit so
I just now saw it. So I wouldn't guess that to be the source of a
"recent" change either.

You could also double-check their subscriptions to be sure that they
aren't using options in the Advanced Preferences expander to limit what
messages they receive. But adjusting that would more likely cause them
to receive only the *first* message of a topic, not the last. So I doubt
that's it. And again there's the "recent change" question.

Ah, thank you, Shal. Glad you were able to reproduce it.

I enabled the "Set Member Subscription Options" now. I'm about to let him know about it so we give it a whirl.

Thanks for the advice! I'll let you know how it works out.

Check that moderator's permissions.

I reproduce your description when the moderator has "Approve Pending Members" but none of the three permissions which allow access to the member list.

I've noticed some peculiar behavior of the Members list when a mod doesn't have all three of those permissions, I've reported to support but so far have received only the automated reply.

Re: member got deleted

The service that starts with A and ends with L (and has been known to auto-delete posts that mention them, on the assumption that any mention will not be favorable) is notorious for this behavior. Many list emails are dumped into the spam folder, and, unless the sender marks them as not spam, the post is reported. At that point, their rules require the sending ISP to unsubscribe them.

Now that Verizon mail is being run by said ISP, the same rules may also apply to those addresses.

Both Yahoo and A..L use DMARC, which breaks email lists that are not configured to deal with it. When Yahoo first started using it, Yahoo Groups was not configured for it, and Yahoo subscribers of Yahoo Groups had their subscriptions messed up.

*In some cases, I believe A O L was one of them, it was observed that if a group message lands automatically in the spam folder then the user must mark it as "not spam", else if the user deletes it, or lets the service automatically delete it, that will also trigger unsubscription. That's bad behavior on the part of the email service, IMO, but not much Groups.io can do about it.

Yessir, he's looking under Admin>Members.

He's sent me a couple of screen shots that seem to show him doing it the right way, and that's why I can't figure it out.

Thanks,

Yep, it's set to "Moderators and Owners".? Thanks for the idea.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

That would be a good idea to bring up on beta@ since it's the official suggestion group, I don't believe it's been suggested before.

Re: Missing messages

I just checked my group's membership list and the two members who are having the problem are both using Yahoo mail, probably a hold over from Yahoo groups. Could there be a setting in Yahoo mail that is causing the problem?

Re: member got deleted

Anita,

a member got deleted because it went into her spam.
Certain email services require that Groups.io (or any mailing list) cease sending message to a user if that user marks a message from the list as spam.

When that happens*, Groups.io unsubscribes the member and sends them an email with a "resume your subscription" link in it. Clicking the link puts the member back into the group.

These are older women and not sure they will be able to deal with
this.
So the rule is: don't mark group messages as spam, even if you don't like the content. Take your content concerns up with the group admins.

*In some cases, I believe AOL was one of them, it was observed that if a group message lands automatically in the spam folder then the user must mark it as "not spam", else if the user deletes it, or lets the service automatically delete it, that will also trigger unsubscription. That's bad behavior on the part of the email service, IMO, but not much Groups.io can do about it.

Are they receiving messages individually, or in a digest?

I can't think of any whey they could have that result with individual
messages, unless their email interface is in something like Gmail's
Conversation mode and they don't know it.

If they are receiving individual messages the other "is it plugged in"
thing to check would be their Spam/Junk folder, just in case.

I'm the owner of the 070 Club and 070 Club Contest groups.

I have a moderator, Larry Brown, who is unable to use the SUBSCRIPTION>MEMBERS function to search for members by email address.?

When he goes there, the MEMBERS button/pull down menu only shows PENDING APPROVAL for him. When he clicks the MEMBERS button to get the pull down menu, it's just blank.?

He's logged in and out of groups.io, he's rebooted his machine and cleared the cache/cookies in his browser, yet he's still unable to use this basic function.

As the owner, it works fine for me, but surely this is something a moderator can do...

Any ideas of settings that I may have incorrectly set for him, or any other ideas as to what could be wrong?

Thanks,

Matt King

Missing messages

Several of my group members are telling me that they are not getting all of the messages.? They are receiving their messages downloaded to their computers and may see the last one in a whole thread, but not the original one or any subsequent ones.? Is anyone else having this problem or is there something they need to check on their settings?? It just started happening in the last day or two.? Before that they were getting all the messages.?
