Re: Is there another way to start a poll?
Jeff,
I guess I can join the beta group also. So that is where bugs getGroupManagersForum is a user-to-user support group, not moderated (or even subscribed to) by Groups.io personnel. Beta is the "suggestion box" for ways to improve Groups.io - it is moderated by Groups.io personnel. Because it is an open mailing list, and not a closed box, it also acts as a "sounding board" for the suggestions, as other Groups.io users read and reply to them. Trello is the public "to-do" list. It isn't a mailing list and no one but Groups.io can post items there. But it does help us (users) know what's being planned, or at least thought about. Bug reports go to [email protected] - that's also not a mailing list, it is an address for private messages to Groups.io support. If you're not sure which category something goes in, you're always welcome to kick it around here in GMF to see if any users here have some knowledge or ideas about it. Shal GMF Owner |
Re: Is there another way to start a poll?
If the only way to do a poll is to go into the New Topic screen, then there is no way to not create a draft message since clicking the discard buttong moves you to the chats screen, and clicking the New Poll button leaves a draft message behind.?
I guess I can join the beta group also.? So that is where bugs get reported too then? |

There used to be a Poll selection on the left, but since it's really just a 'special' version of a message, it appears Mark has removed it. I hadn't noticed since we don't use them much. If you don't use the Discard button, any New Topic or Reply will be saved as a draft, even if nothing is typed. That might be a good suggestion on the beta group. I don't think Mark follows this one and he's asked that suggestions be posted over there for discussion. Might be a bit difficult to implement for folks that use signatures though? I know that I really appreciate Mark's efforts, as I believe many others do. Several of us have watched this site 'grow up' over the last couple of years. It amazes me how much has changed. There have been some hiccups, but overall it's great. Duane |
Is there another way to start a poll?
The only way I can find to start a poll is in the New Topic screen.? It is kind of hidden.? Can a user start a poll any other way?
Speaking of the New Topic screen ... just going to that screen makes a draft new topic.? Even if I type nothing it.? Is it supposed to do that? I am the owner of a couple of Yahoo groups.? I am playing with Groups.IO for a while to see how it works and will migrate over if this turns out to be a good fit.? So far it is.? Thanks for creating this list server! |

Ok, here's a dumb question. Why are the messages in all my groups' topics appearing as newest first instead of oldest first, as usual? Is this happening to anyone else? I don't know what I hit to make the switch, if anything, and I can't find any toggle to toggle it back.?

Groups.io site updates
#changelog
Hi all,
This and last week's change log: Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change. * Quoted replies with the new editor work as expected. Normally a bug fix doesn't get top spot here, but this one will be felt by a lot of web users, I think. Thanks to J for identifying what was going on and how to reproduce it so that Mark could fix it. * Changed the new editor to use P tags for enter when editing the wiki. This fix isn't exactly what I wanted, but it will do. Especially since now I know that Shift+Enter will do what I want - thanks to Jennifer in beta@ for that tip! My only niggling doubt is that now the behavior of Enter versus Shift+Enter is reversed in Wiki context versus Message context. My hobgoblin objects to the inconsistency. * Test version of the new search engine. * Test version of new search with start of advanced search filters. This should be a winner, once it settles out a bit. I haven't had time to play with it much yet, but I'm hoping that drop-down between the search target box and the Search button turns into a powerful collection of search filters. * New help section on Bounce handling, thanks to J. That's a lot of detail for something that many moderators ought never need to know or care about. Yes, I know, there are also many groups that want to closely monitor their members' email status to be sure nothing has gone wrong. Bounce handling being an automatic and behind-the-scenes system, those who need or want to know really need that level of detail to understand what it is doing. And learning by testing is too difficult to actually accomplish, at least for most mortals (Lena excepted). * For groups that are not reply to group, unsubscribe links in single messages will require login to unsubscribe. Here's one where I need to follow up. I agree with JohnF's concern that list unsubscribe should never require login. Any extra steps in the process is likely to end with the user resorting to the Spam button, and that's bad for all concerned. Comments about these others are also welcome: * CHANGE: Code change to prevent flashing of HTML before TinyMCE editor is displayed. * CHANGE: Normalize HTML now defangs h1-h6 tags as well. * CHANGE: Changed URLs of View/Reply Online links in HTML digests to do the same thing as single messages (ie go directly to the message). * NEW: 'Send Message' button when viewing pending messages. * INTERNAL: Work on the API. * INTERNAL: Email server now uses less memory in certain situations. * SYSADMIN: Resized email sending machine. * BUGFIX: Add an extra newline between messages when downloading archives, to ensure proper mbox format. * BUGFIX: In a rare case, a group on the yearly plan could be charged twice. * INTERNAL: Cleaning up some malformed messages from Yahoo Groups imports. * CHANGE: Changed the policy when cooking HTML, being more permissive with URLs. * NEW: Include 'Private: ' in 'Reply To Sender' subject lines. * BUGFIX: Some line heights in the TinyMCE editor were inconsistent with the rest of the site. * BUGFIX: Fix type sorting of group member notices to be alphabetical. * CHANGE: Fixed the regex responsible for finding URLs in plain text to allow * and ! characters. * CHANGE: Changed the threading algorithm. Now if a message has references but none match existing messages, we look for a subject match. Previously, we would only look for a subject match if the message did not have any references. This is to fix the problem when people use the Reply link in HTML digests to reply to a message. * SYSADMIN: Moved the load balancer onto its own machine. Please call out any you find significant. Not in the daily summary. But I saw belatedly that OP corrected himself and was actually talking about the digest. J On Sat, Jun 24, 2017 at 4:47 PM, Shal Farley <shals2nd@...> wrote: J, |

J,
But there's no text at all even remotely resembling the email. There is in the URL of the From: name. In this example my cursor is hovering over my name (at the base of the arrow): It is probably a long shot, but that's what I'm guessing at. Perhaps the copy/paste picked up the link, URL and all, and pasted the whole mailto URL in the clear rather than as a link. Otherwise I don't see the problem, in message bodies, even those in digests, I'm seeing the full email address not an "obscured" one. Heh, that does reveal a different problem though: Mark didn't update the From link to include "Private" in the subject line. Is that a feature (you can have it either with or without) or a bug (you can have it without)? Shal |

J,
And how could text that's not in the actual email suddenly becomeIf the text is HTML and contains a link (as in the From: name in a full-featured digest), then pasting it in a non-HTML context might cause the link to expand as both the link text and the URL beneath it. Otherwise, I don't know. Shal |
Re: Email addresses being revealed
Julian,
I don't get daily summaries myself, so this is a bit second hand. In aInteresting. They don't seem to be obscured in the digests I get from the beta@ group (or this one). Unless what your member means is the poster's name, which appears after From: at the top of each message in the digest. However, if it is copied and pasted into another (non groups.io)If he/she's talking about the From: name, then no. Or not easily. That name is used as a mailto: link so that the reader can reply directly to the poster of that particular message. It is the same as the "Reply To Sender" link at the bottom of each message. I suppose Mark could make the From: name just text, given that the link is duplicated below, but I suspect a lot of users have gotten used to it and would complain. Shal |
Re: Email addresses being revealed
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you ? ¡®I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night. ? Sugar ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Julian Thornhill ? I don't get daily summaries myself, so this is a bit second hand. In a group I moderate I am informed that in the daily summaries the sender's email address appears obscured. However, if it is copied and pasted into another (non groups.io) forum the entire email address is pasted. This has led to one person's email address being posted by accident into a public forum. Is this indeed an issue, and if so, can it be fixed? |
