Any "Export" just sends a copy of the information, nothing is changed on the group.

Exporting on Groups.io

I was looking at the admin in a group I own and I wondered about exporting the wiki. Looks easy to do, but does it remove it from Groups.io or simply copy it in json or other format? The instructions don't say. Is it the same behaviour for all types of data?
?
Googling didn't help since its meaning seems to vary.?

I think your homepage needs paring down. Too much space and everything is double-spaced. The crucial info is below the fold - they have to scroll to down twice (with a track pad) to the email addresses, group information and group settings.

I am a bit surprised with Group Settings for your group:
?
?All members can post to the group.
?Posts to this group do not require approval from the moderators.
?Posts from new users require approval from the moderators.
?Messages are set to reply to sender.
?Subscriptions to this group do not require approval from the moderators.
?Archive is visible to members only.
?Wiki is visible to members only.
?Only moderators can create hashtags.
?Members cannot edit their messages.
?Members can set their subscriptions to no email.

I just clicked on Join This Group on your homepage and I was immediately told I was a member! And I can read the message archive.

Is this really what you want?

Hi LindA, the address that you shared here, is the correct address to your homepage for your main group. You need to tell members that are wanting to apply, to scroll all the way down to the bottom past the subscription addresses, and click on applied for membership. This will send you a request to approve them. I hope this helps and answers your question.

Re: question regarding help section and link for people to join

Why not invite them using the Invite mechanism?

It works smoothly. You can track the request. Resend it if necessary.

About inviting people to join your group:
Here's the Help page for using Invite.
?
Take the time to edit your Invite Notice (in Admin, Settings, Notices) and use your toolbar to highlight your own content to personalize it. Save it for future use and activate it. Note that you can't remove what is there (the boilerplate) which is required at least in some jurisdictions. But by spaces, formats, bolding and italics, colour, you can get a pretty good invitation.
?
Then use Invite in your Admin menu.?

The GMF wiki has information about it too:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/12630

Couldn't you create your poll in Survey Monkey and make a link to it?

If I click on the link of one, I can download just that one.? And I need to click on each one if I'm going to download more than one file.

Did that answer your question?
Yes, as an Owner/Moderator I was hoping there was a way to download one folder out of many that are in our Files section.

The closest I can remember is for a group admin to export the Files area of the group, but that gets them all.? No way for members to do that.

Thanks. I am an Owner. Question came up during our Files reorganization process. Not interested in having Members do that. (There are many "would be nice to have" things we encountered, but don't know how to address those to the people who could actually make the changes in groups.io.)

I'm not sure if what I'm reading is what I'm going to be replying to so if I'm off in left field, no problem.

I just went to Files and looked at the files in my site.? There are 3 individual files in mine.? No sub-files (don't even know if sub-files are allowed).

Re: Downloading files

Jim,

If your aim is to give the users a way to download an already "pre-configured" folder with subfolders and the like, use a zipfile for that purpose.

Many thanks, Duane. I'll give it a try on Beta and see what Mark thinks of it.

That's the way to do it.? Right now, you'd have to have one big, multi-part question and have answers for every possible combination of answers.? Keeping track of multiple questions, each with multiple answers, could get very complicated, very quickly.? I don't know if that's something Mark would consider, but it can't hurt to ask.

Polls with multiple questions #polls #suggestion

I wished to post this request on Beta, but I thought to send it on GMF before, just in case I'm missing some essential information.
I saw that you can create polls with multiple answers, but not with multiple questions. The only option is to create as many separate polls.
I'd like to have the possibility to create a single poll including more than one question. I would be happy even with a limited number of questions allowed.
Is there any problem that I can't see?

I looked through the message archive and saw that in 2022 there was a desire expressed?about being able to download individual?folders from Files. Was this ever implemented? Perhaps in a beta trial?

Re: reduce storage size

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Ideally I would like to keep all the attachments but reduce their size. Is a there a way to do this in bulk? Is there even a way of doing it manually while keeping attachments attached to their relevant post?

No to either, you can only delete them.?

Now if you have a legacy group with Files, you could upload the smaller replacement image there and edit the original message, delete the large attachment, and add a link to the smaller image on Files.? If not, you could recreate the message with the smaller attachment and send it in, then delete the original attachment but leave the original message and link to it, but it would look like you sent the message, I guess you could put some text in the replacement message to indicate it's a repost and link to the original message, a bit messy.

Either of these options has to be done one message at a time.

Cheers,
Christos

It's definitely NOT a Groups.io problem.? If you have a copy of the message forwarded to you, it should include all the headers.? That's where I'd start, trying to figure out who actually sent it.? You may never get to the bottom of it, but it's happened in other groups when someone got hold of a message/digest and they try to make people think its from the group/site.? The From: and To: both being wrong are sure signs of a 'bad guy'.
