Inviting people to become members

I am the owner of a small group (about 20 members)? ?I want to invite a few new ones but I can't seem to find out how.? Is there a tutorial?

Re: Can't upload large file

I would also include the browser used, the internet provider, and anything else
that might be even remotely associated with the problem.

Yes, I'm uploading a ZIP file, too.

It could be that the dialog is first having to read the entire file just to render a thumbnail image.

Re: Can't upload large file

One of the difficulties in troubleshooting this kind of problem is it may not be entirely a groups.io issue. It probably depends on the upload speed of your connection in addition to how busy the groups.io server is. Posting the results of an upload and download speed test in the problem description may help in understanding the issue.

Join this group:

if you don't want to get all messages individually, you can get the digest or no
mail, and read messages on the group site. However you set it up, post a new
message and your subject line should be something like:

#bug unable to upload large files

in the body text of the message, explain the problem, what you do to experience
the problem, what you expect to happen, what actually happens.

That's all. The hashtag "#bug" makes it a bug report and discussion topic.

I don't know what you mean by "endlessly spin." In Chrome, I'm not seeing any busy indicator at all.

I used the Browse button to select the file instead of drag-and-drop. I clicked the Add button ONCE and walked away.

When I came back about three minutes later, it had been uploaded.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, Bruce.? I'll give it another try, but, still, it's clear there's something wrong with this aspect of the system, and even if there really were some network congestion occasionally preventing successful uploads, there would seem to be opportunities here to improve the system's programming in how it deals with that sort of a situation (for example, provide an upload meter bar, as Google Drive does) rather than just endlessly "spin" or arrive at a totally blank .../editfiles page.

Has your account got itself into a 'bounced' state? Once some net-glitch has set your account that way, it will stay so until you actively 'unbounce' it.

No, but you can fake it using the calendar. Set up either a repeating event and issue a #cal-notice for each one, or a single event for the last day of downtime with several #cal-reminders leading up to it.?

I don't like the above options because these same messages show up as hits when doing a hashtag search for real calendar activity. A better option for paid groups is to set up a Member Notice of type "locked group." This will be sent to anyone who attempts to post to the group during your lock.

Thanks very much for your suggestion.? Sorry to be slow about this, but I admin just a single, relatively small group and haven't had any significant problem with groups.io before (this is my first time in the GroupManagersForum, since [email protected] wouldn't respond).? I know just barely enough to get basic stuff done administering my group, so I'm not entirely sure how to go about "making it a #bug report in Beta."? If what you're referring to is some other channel to get the attention of the chief developer (I'm presuming that's who "Mark" is?), then I'd like to do that, but I don't understand how to translate "make it a #bug report in Beta" into action.? Can you elaborate at least a bit?? Appreciate your time.? Then, once I've reported it, Duane hopefully will report his identical experience, and maybe our two reports, as you suggested, will finally get this issue the attention it needs to get fixed.

[daily automatic] #messages

We are a premium group that periodically closes for several days to give the moderators a break. Is there a way to automatically send out a daily notice to all members reminding them that we are closed for specific days. (We announce and remind them in messages of the closing beforehand.) There seems to be no option to send a Special Notice daily. ?I came up empty in checking the Owner's Manual. ?Hence, my question. Thanks.

Fortunately, as Duane mentioned in an earlier reply, it is difficult to
accidentally delete a group. There's a pretty explicit warning that makes you
give thought to what you are about to do.

Something to consider--if you're thinking of deleting a legacy basic group that
has file and picture storage, you can put it in limbo by making it an
announcement only group, and do some other things to make the group inactive but
still there, and if you decide at a later time you want to use it for another
purpose, put it to work with a new name and you have a new group with the "old"
privileges.

Once you delete a legacy basic group, it's gone. If you later start a new group
for a different purpose and don't want to upgrade to premium, your new group
won't have file and picture storage, among other things. If you had put it on
deep freeze and later needed it, then you could make it a different group with
the old privileges.

What Duane said makes sense. You just need to read the warning and heed it. I
don't know how Mark could make it any more difficult to accidentally delete a
group.

Donald

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

FWIW, I tried the large (325MB) upload again, and this time I left it running a bit longer than I had ever done before...and indeed wound up with a blank .../editfiles page, just like you reported with your 311MB file.

This is definitely a groups.io problem, but, even with a paid group, I can't get any attention from [email protected].? Other than putting my file on another storage site and just setting up a link on groups.io to the other site (in other words, other than "giving up") -- an option I said I have reasons to not prefer -- do I have any other options to get this working properly in groups.io?

I tried a couple of test files the last couple of days, mid afternoon central US time.? The 161MB file uploaded fine, the 311MB file went through the paces, but wasn't actually uploaded and no message in the log.? I ended up on a blank editfiles page which I don't recall seeing before.? I've only got 1Mbps upload, so it took awhile...

BTW, I presume you have a paid group.? Basic (free) groups have a limit of 100MB per file.
