Re: How to stop address harvesting
You bring up a good point.
Some Band are UnFair, but suppose half are due to a "bad player....?" Once ideas are garnered here, we could take Mark an idea in Beta to have anyone Banned have a red B by their application so we can make a better decicion about their application. Maybe in non-restricted lists, they'd have to be approved even there. BillSF9c |

Passive voice confusion
"You have reached the limit for number of invites that can be sent out without approval. Once your new invites have been approved, they will be sent out. You will receive a notification when this happens." I mistakenly uploaded not the memberlist but the archive of the yahoo group in zip form.? As a consequence I got the above passive voice message. In my private email, I was informed that the file was not the right format. Then when I located the proper file (TSV format) and tried to upload it, I got the passive voice message again. So, now I'm wondering: Does "new invites have been approved" mean the people?I've invited have approved being added to the email list on ?? Or does it mean management will go through some sort of approval process?? Or does it mean I, as group manager must approve the invites somewhere?in the menu structure? And why does any of this make any sense since told me the file was not processed? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMichaelKicks it down the road.? Exactly my point.? Founder is just creating another layer that doesn¡¯t solve the problem if one of the group moderators want/need to become the new owner (pseudo founder as it were) with ALL privileges.? How would you see the succession triggering? ? Obviously if there were only an owner passing the torch that¡¯s easy. ?But a deceased sole owner, where ¡°everyone¡± wants the group to continue? ?I question how that could occur automatically without gio intervention or flipping a switch.? It¡¯s similar to a medical power of attorney - it takes someone to determine the person is incapacitated (i.e., unable for whatever reason to continue as owner, thus triggering the next one(s) in line obtaining ALL privileges/rights.) It will take a while, longer than you hope. But do expect you will get a reply.? I think maybe you selected the wrong option. One option is for $20 a month (ongoing). One option is for $220 for one year. One option is a one month updgrade for $20 that will be downgraded after a month.? Last week I selected the "one month $20 updgrade to be downgraded after a month" option. I was charged $20. I received an emailed receipt showing the terms were for just one month and would then be downgraded. So I can say that is how it works when that option is selected.? Depending on how it was billed, you could try to dispute the $220 charge and they will likely drop it during the period of waiting for GIO Support to reply to you and work out a resolution.? ? -- Sandi Dickenson |

Re: Single Owner Group - Owner Deceased
| What happens if the Founder gets hit by a bus? This leaves the group with no real Owner - only their abandoned Account remains as Owner. The reason a group may have only one Owner is that they want to ensure that another Owner does not depose them. Giving a Moderator all Permissions: - does protect the Owner from being deposed IF there is only one Owner - however, if there are 2 or more Owners, all but one can be Removed by that Moderator. - it does not allow the Moderator to promote anyone to Owner. - it does not allow the Moderator to Delete Group All of this means that having no 'Owner Succession' feature does not solve the problem, only 'kicks it down the road'. I'm this real concern will continue to be periodically brought up. So far, only some Moderator Permissions have consequently been modified, which is an improvement but not a Solution. Unfortunately, its priority has never risen high enough to institute a solution, hopefully it won't be too many more years before this obvious need is addressed. My suggestions are: - That there be a hierarchy of Owners (to encourage multiple Owners), set by the most senior Owner controlling whether junior Owners can remove a more senior Owner or Delete Group). - That Owner Succession be automated with its trigger(s) controlled by the most senior Owner, so that Groups.io management is never burdened by having to be involved. Re: As an Owner/Moderator, how do I Forward an email received by the group to elevate it to Special Notice Only status
Thank you for your answer. That's what I had resolved by finding no mention of it in the manuals. Now I'll work on proposing a change in the app that will allow a Moderator to make that change on a document. Being able to Forward something should be allowed; being able to moderate/edit/change it to the degree you are permitted would also make sense.

Doug,
1. The Removed Member notice is sent only to the member who is removed. 2. No one else is notified except moderators, if they have the correct notice set in their subscription settings. 3. I believe (though I'm not 100% certain) that you have to select the current active notice in your group's settings and that you are not given the option when you are about to remove someone. Pete |
A couple questions on Remove Member
#membership
#members
#membernotices
1) If there is an active "Removed Member" notice, does it only get sent to the removed member, or to all members?
2)? If a member is removed, what do the other members see?? Do they get any kind of notification about the removed member? 3) If I create several "Removed Member" notices (e.g., for different removal reasons), and none of them are active, will I be given a change to select one in the removal process, or do I have to make one active before initiating removal?? I did the former (none of the "Removed Member" notices active) and got to the "Are you sure you wish to remove this member from the group?" prompt with a choice of Cancel or Yes.? I canceled because I wasn't sure if I'd be given the opportunity to select the desired "Removed Member" notice. Thanks, Doug |
Re: Single Owner Group - Owner Deceased
Our Yahoo group lost it's sole owner 4 years prior to Groups shutting down. The apprehension in our group was palpable at the thought of losing 19 years of genealogical archives. We miraculously located and managed to work with the owner's surviving spouse and daughter to recover full access so that we could add new owners and effect the move to GIO. We were fortunate but so many others were not.
If at all possible with regard to trust and amicable relations, I?most strongly recommend a minimum of 2 owners because you just never know when or if it will be needed. At the very least, IMHO, sole owners should designate a receiver and arrange to transmit their GIO password to same out of respect for those they leave behind. -- Jim |

As an Owner/Moderator, how do I Forward an email received by the group to elevate it to Special Notice Only status
?I¡¯m an Owner/Moderator for a group and we have some members who are ¡®Special Notice Only¡¯ subscribers. That means they obviously don¡¯t get all of the messages sent by anyone.
As a moderator, I see some of the messages rise to the level of ¡®Special?Notice¡¯ and want to pick them up, change them to add the ¡®Special?Notice¡¯ category, and send them on (back out) to the Group. But I don¡¯t see any way?to do that. I¡¯ve had to resort to a ¡®copy-paste¡¯ routine and send it?out from my address, giving credit to the source. ?
?Is there a way for someone with the privilege to Forward (or Reply), appending the Special Notice trigger?
