Ah, but... have you also got it set such that only Moderators can create new hashtags? If so, if you test as an Owner (i.e. a Moderator) any non - existing hashtag will suddenly be created.

How does hashtag removal work? #hashtags

Hello everyone

1. In my test group, I changed the hashtag setting so that non-existing hashtags are removed.? I clicked the "Update group" button at the bottom.? Then I sent a couple of messages with non-existing hashtags, but they don't get removed and the messages appear with clickable hashtags in the web view.? How is this feature supposed to work?

2. What I was originally trying to find out was what would happen to hashtagged words with this setting.? Will it change "help me with #ms word" to "help me with ms word" or "help me with word"?? My new group's users don't understand how hashtags work, but I really really want to use hashtags in the group, so I'm looking for strategies.

Thanks
Samuel

Re: Should a sender receive their own post in their email?

Herb,

It looks like I can't see this member's account info (!?) so I sent
him the info to check.
You can only see information about his subscription to your group. You do that by clicking on his address in the Members list.

You cannot see a member's account information, the Account pages are available only to the account holder.

He has no recent bounces. so perhaps UWyo is the culprit (unless he
didn't have that checkbox checked for getting his own mail).
If his email service isn't Gmail (or powered by Google) then the account setting will have no effect - it is a work-around specific to a Gmail quirk.

It looks like UWyo is powered by Microsoft Office365, and that probably is the cause. He can check to see if the messages are being marked as spam. If he can't find them that way maybe UWyo's email tech support can help.

Re: Red bouncing members #bouncedemails

Frances,

Can she just log in to her account (probably by using "email me a link
to login") and click on the usual message to unbounce herself?
Yes.

I removed her as a member and then invited her. That worked. Easiest
for her.
That should have no effect on her bouncing status. Perhaps receiving and accepting the Invitation reset the Bounce status.

This is likely to be a short-term solution unless she resolves whatever problem at her email service is causing them to reject group messages.

Re: Non-subscriber receiving group posts

I'm having the problem only on my largest group, just over 1 1,000 members.

I had the suspect AOL address subscription problem a while back.? Stopped it by restricting membership, sending a question upon membership application, and deleting suspect addresses which joined before I restricted emmebrships.

I figured that some subscriber or subscribers were redistributing posts.? I set AOL addresses subscribed in the last 7 months to No Mail.? Didn't work:? non-members still complained about getting group mail.

Then I set ALL AOL addresses to No Mail, except those I knew personally or those set to Digest, Summary, or Special Notices.

Still holding my breath, but no complaints for five days (was getting daily complaints, sent as messages to the group - Non-Members posts allowed, but mdoerated).

BTW, her email works. I emailed her from my own email account and she replied. So that isn't the issue.

Red bouncing members #bouncedemails

A longtime member with a cogeco.ca email address has not responded to bouncing messages. She has now "turned red" and no longer receives probes from Groups.io.

She wants back in and I would like her back.

I don't think she is very technically adept. ?I do see this in the GMF wiki -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/9674
The group is a basic free group. Unrestricted but moderated.

The latest probe (Dec 18) says:

and

?
Nov 30:
mx.cogeco.ca: 550 5.7.1 0D4E292047A9F This message has been blocked for containing SPAM-like characteristics.

Can she try to unsubscribe and resubscribe? Or any other workarounds?

Thanks!

Of course, any bona fide member can forward an email from the group. You can't prevent that.
In a few of my groups, I have set up an automatic group footer in Admin, Settings, Message Formatting.

It says:
This group, its messages, files and other content are intended only for approved members of this group. If you are not the intended recipient, you are notified that disclosing, copying, or distributing is strictly prohibited.

This is because in a committee group I have, a group member was or appeared to be forwarding our messages to others.I don't in my family group, but you could do a different footer.

You might also consider what happens when non-members email the group. I allow it (the posts need to be moderated), but it does alert me to family members who might like to join the group.
Tons of tweaks available for Groups.io!

I am assuming you have a restricted group.

You can make the member list (in Admin) available to all group members, if you wish. Only group members, not the public, can see it. Go to Admin, Settings, Privacy.
See this help page -?/helpcenter/gettingstarted/1/step-4-customize-the-group-s-settings/group-settings

In my family group, I have allowed members to see the member list. However all members are also in Directory.

re Files and pdf

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I'm probably mistaken about this, but it is a while since I last looked at my group's Files, so I'm not sure.
I thought that originally, when I clicked on a pdf file in the Files folder, it opened up in Acrobat Reader to read. Now I only have the option to save it to my computer.
Has this changed? or is it something on my computer?
Is there any way to set the group default for a pdf to open up, rather than save?
Thanks
Win

I did as Christo suggested in the other thread and went to advanced toolbar, Preview, to ensure that I had deleted the whole thing.
If I create a signature in the subgroup then in the main group, I can have them different.
Weirdly though it works fine when I get the test emails from the two groups, but in Subscription they both match - both are the same as the main group.
A bit flakey?

Did I miss a setting somewhere when I set up the Group or the Sub-Groups?
Hmm, a bug? I tried it and it worked the first time I sent something from my subgroup.
After the first try, the signature was incorrect in Subscription. It reverted to the old signature.
But when I clicked on create post, it appeared correctly in the post - but retained the old URL that was part of the previous signature.

So changing the signature in the main group, changes it in the second. But it doesn't retain it properly. And doesn't seem to remove all of the previous signature. And Diana wasn't seeing it at all in the subgroup.
