Re: Why has my groups taken more than a month to transfer
On Sun, Dec 8, 2019 at 07:11 PM, Jim Allen wrote:
then there were pay $220 and or pay $20 a month for a year for a total of $240.? ?it was there.Or more correctly, it wasn't. You may not appreciate my pointing this out, but... I have no idea exactly how many groups migrated from Yahoo, but it's a lot. A very significant proportion of those transfers took place after Mark announced the changes to the charging regime. Now the vast majority of those seem to have taken place without their owners and moderators having to submit enquiries here to the Group Managers Forum, but it has to be recognised that queries about the details of the payment were a common theme over the last (say) 6 or 7 weeks. The answer was always the same; it had to be a single payment for "Premium yearly", not a monthly payment plan for 12 months. To elaborate a little further on a point just made, while queries about this were common, there are good grounds for suspecting that this was a problem encountered by just a small proportion of the hundreds (thousands, more like) of transfers that took place without this financial hiccup arising. Now as I am not a moderator of this group I have no idea how long you have been a member of the GMF, but Gerald's post made reference to a post submitted by Bruce on 1st November, which in turn was a response to a query of yours of the same date, so you have been a member for at least 5 weeks. That's 5 weeks during which the need for the transfer payment to be for a single Premium yearly plan popped up moderately often and yet you seem to have never spotted it. Were you not looking at other peoples' queries and the responses to them over that period? There is a lot to be learned from other owners' and moderators' questions and answers, and just focussing on one's own immediate issue can result in missing a lot of potentially useful snippets. Here you seem to have missed the fact that a small number of other transferees had made the same slip as you had; had you spotted them you would have been able to make good the error in time for your transfer to go ahead. I can fully understand your sense of frustration, but I think you ought to realise that a large part of the responsibility for your present predicament lies with you. It certainly does not lie with the GMF or its members; as has been pointed out this is a peer to peer group for Group Managers, not Groups.io Managers.? Chris |

Do I understand this correctly?
Eric Johnson
I am on the small staff of a group that manages a really large, interactive dog pedigree service for three breeds. There is a small Yahoo group that is used for questions and support.
Do I read the Groups.io pricing correctly that we could create a group at no cost with the only real limit the membership area like no direct adds of members? We have no photos or other such and no databases other than the dog pedigree and that runs in SQL Server on a dedicated server. So, nothing other than messages and the threads are rather short-lived. Re: group-description in invite ?
For invites, see also: ?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Inviting-new-members
And notice that when you choose Invite from the dropdown menu on the Invite page, it shows the amended notice above. You can even tweak it further at that point if you wish before sending. Re: group-description in invite ?
You have two questions -? ?
BTW as to "reposting policy"....Does not ticking the box mean that no repostings are allowed at all, as in, double posts (accidental or intentional) will not get passed-on?1. Have you created a member notice for invitations? See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Member-Notices Make sure it is active. Then when you send an invitation, use the dropdown menu on the invite page to choose your invitation notice. This text ?will be incorporated into the standard message.? You can also tweak the message on the fly, but the member notice will be easier in the long run. 2. I can't answer. Sorry. Re: Why has my groups taken more than a month to transfer
You realize that you only have a short time to do something if you wish to rescue your messages from YG.
December 14 is coming soon. The green button on the transfer page is no longer working. The notice says that no more transfers. Focus on that. Find a plan. Ask people what the best easiest way to do it is. What are your tech skills? Do you need step by step instructions? And most importantly, what do you need to rescue? Just your members' email addresses? See the FAQ #10 and #14. Or ask about that. FAQ on Moving from Yahoo Groups I also asked in another email whether you had checked to see the message on the status of your transfer. I guess nothing has happened. You never pulled the trigger to start the transfer. Frances GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |
group-description in invite ?
I'm slowly moving a(n esperanto-)group over, but when I send an invite, no info about the io-group comes with it.
Is there a simple way to include the group-description? BTW as to "reposting policy"....Does not ticking the box mean that no repostings are allowed at all, as in, double posts (accidental or intentional) will not get passed-on? groetjes, Ronaldo |

at first the transfer was 110? then that all changed.? then there were pay $220 and or pay $20 a month for a year for a total of $240.? ?it was there.??
so if i have to pay the $220 to transfer up front, do i get credit for the 40 i have already paid?? ?it would be nice to be able to just talk to a real person instead of this.? ? i transfered a group before you had to pay..? ?everything went fine. I just need to get it done. help Jim Allen |
Re: restricted ability to set transfer.io to moderator.
First, this is a peer-to-peer help group. No owners here.
Second, isn't this your post earlier today -?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/25695 You need to pay for a year if you want to be transferred (if you are lucky). Otherwise just figure out another strategy. Get a download from Yahoo. Or use the Chrome browser, etc. etc.? In the FAQ on moving from Yahoo Groups. Or just use your month to "direct add" your members from your YG and then go to the free version of Groups.io Frances -- FAQ on Moving from Yahoo Groups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |
Re: restricted ability to set transfer.io to moderator.
we resolved all of that... I am now the owner.? ?i have resubmitted the transfer request.? ?the actions taken with [email protected] being a member has all taken place.? ?you are are taking my money so fix it or tell me what is missing..

Invalid request, no reverse DNS for.... Not just an Outlook problem
I have seen several people report that they get a "Invalid request, no reverse DNS for xxxxx" failure, and say it's an "outlook" problem.
I can post one message successful, then the next get an error. I can post from an Ipad, my phone or even an old Netscape program and get the same inconsistency of one error, then several successful sends. I would think that pretty much says it's not just an Outlook issue, but a "Groups IO issue". --------------------- host lb01.groups.io[45.79.81.153] said: 500 ??? I read the information from the link you sent me¡..a few times¡..I must be as thick as a brick¡I just don¡¯t get it¡. My suggestion -?
Start a test group - a free one.
You won't see Direct Add, but just about all the rest is the same.
Set it up like your real group in Settings.
Create a free Gmail or use other email account to be an applicant.
And you can see what happens.
?
The easy way is to use the Pending Subscription notice. This only works in Restricted Groups. It does not work for those you invite or Direct Add. Or from transfers from YG. In Admin, use the menu to go to Settings.
In Settings, go to the Member Notices button at the top of that page.
?
Add a notice:
Click on +New Notice - button below any notices.
Click on Notice Type - Welcome - to see the list of notices available.
Click to choose Pending ?Subscription notice you want to create or edit.
Fill in the information on the form. Put your question(s).
Click on Add Notice.?New notices you create are automatically activated (default) except for type Invite.?
But double-check that it is active (in the tick box above the notice).
This tells you what you or a moderator must do to approve the person for membership. It is sent automatically to anyone who applies for membership in a restricted group.
The notice marked "active" is the one sent; if no notice is active, none is sent.
?
Some groups use this notice to ask a series of questions of applicants in support of their application; responses will go to the group owner address and be recorded in the member¡¯s page under "+owner messages."
(Be sure that you are set to receive owner emails.)
See this wiki page for details of what happens, and instructions about what you need to do. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Screening-New-Members-Using-the-Pending-Subscription-Notice See part way down the page -?Now the semi-automated part for the owner is over. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you, Frances for responding.I read the information from the link you sent me¡..a few times¡..I must be as thick as a brick¡I just don¡¯t get it¡.
I don¡¯t understand the process from a)when I receive a message in MY personal ?email account, from a prospective member, to b) approving that member and having them join.
The prospective member has responded to the questionnaire (not as an attachment) which will help other members deal with the problems they are having with their dog, and after I review the questionnaire, I want to forward it to the group and join
the prospective member.?
?In the Yahoo days, I would simply FORWARD to our list, the prospective member¡¯s completed questionnaire, from INSIDE Yahoo (addressed to the Moderator account) ?with the subject line "Please welcome¡.¡± ?and that would join the party¡..
we do not accept attachments (I selected ¡°strip¡± from the dropdown) and if the prospective member sends me the questionnaire as an attachment (that never happened, by the way), I will simply do a copy/paste of the attachment into the email and
move ahead.

Re: Size of HomePage Masthead photo . . .
I remember when YG changed the way the homepage image could be displayed to the way Groups.io does it, and personally I thought it sucked. In my group I change the photo once a month to showcase a different member (much like a magazine), and some great photos cannot be used because manipulating them to fit 900x300 pixels kind of ruins them for display. I've learned to deal with this limitation.
