I believe the Special Notice parameter of a hashtag only applies if a moderator/owner uses it since they're the only ones that can send a Special Notice.

Mere Subscribers cannot send a Special Notice. Only Moderators and Owners can do that.

If you, as a Moderator/Owner, used the hashtag, it would work.?

Special Notice not working when sent via a hashtag

If I send a message as a Special Notice as the Owner, my test user#1 (that is subscribed to only get Special Notices) receives the message.? But if I send a message from test user#2 using a hashtag that is configured to be sent as a Special Notice, test user#1 does not receive the message, even though messages with the songlist hashtag are supposed to be sent as a Special Notice.

Hashtags configured to be sent as a Special Notice also have to be Moderated, and yes, I approved (moderated) the message when it showed up in the pending queue.

So why does the subscription for 'Special Notice only' work when the message is explicitly sent as Special Notice, but not work when it is sent as a hashtag configured to be sent as a Special Notice?

Re: UPDATE: transferring group - missing green button #transfer

Hmm.? Does the moderation posting policy and override matter??? I didn't remember reading that.

[Mod Note: It doesn't...it was just a coincidence.]

That did it! Sorry, the box to the left of the "Display Name" was throwing me off. I also didn't realize that the name was a link.

UPDATE: transferring group - missing green button #transfer

I JUST got the email from [email protected]!!! And I just got the "green button".? It may have also been because I went back to my YG and went to my YG and made sure their posting privileges was changed to "overide-posts not moderated" from "default group policy" since I remembered that I had put all members on moderation pending our transfer.? But, as soon as I changed the moderation status, I received the groups.io email.?? I know we are all super anxious to get this done and I hope your transfers get done.

Thankful for groups.io and all its volunteers for their endless and thankless time they are spending on this enormous task.
Claudia

Re: Transfer NOW

18 hours later, does it still count as the same moment? :) In any case, I have seized it, and started my last (of three) transfers.

The Yahoo site is still very glitchy today. It took me several tries to get to the invite page, and then I received the "an error occurred while loading the content" message. Fortunately I was able to log in from a different browser to send the invite, and it worked. Here's hoping it'll let me do the next step when the time comes. Fingers crossed.

Testing this on my iPad. I have never seen a green banner. I will scroll up the page after "sending" this to see if I can find the banner.?

Re: Transfer questions. #transfer

It just unstuck.?? I was able to green light the transfer. Thanks Bruce, for the help!??

Re: Transferring group - green button to start transfer missing #transfer

Mine has become unstuck.? I hit the green light start and it's moving.? My status shows it's starting and that it may take a few days.? All good.? 4 more to go.?

Re: Members editing and deleting their OWN messages

Yes the green banner is there. I have never before seen it because my iPad mini doesn't show that much "screen display". I wouldn't have thought about scrolling up to a page top looking for a banner.?

Never mind.? The e-mails finally appeared and so did the "green button."

Stuck ~Before~ Actual Transfer

Good Morniing,
?
I am trying to transfer 3 Yahoo groups.? I've been following the EXCELLENT instructions in "Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer" but I believe maybe I made a mistake.? I invited "[email protected]" to my groups and received messages from ~Yahoo~ that I had a new member in all my groups about 1 a.m. CST.? I made [email protected] a moderator in each group.? Now I realize I never received the email from ~groups.io~ stating the Yahoo group invitation had been accepted.? Things seem to be stuck.? Did I make a mistake making [email protected] a moderator before receiving that e-mail?? I don't have the "Give Go Ahead To Transfer" button on my Transfer Setup page.
?
It's been more than 10 hours.? Am I just not being patient enough?

Re: Changing Display Name

Absolutely, yes; go through Admin/Members, click on the member to change, update the display name and then save.

Having said that, would you not want the individual members to change their display names themselves in their group profile? I appreciate some members would be a little nervous if they're not too web-savvy, but you could put a short how-to together for them?

Regards

Derek

Re: Transfer questions. #transfer

How long do you think it will take for the "stuck" transfer to unstick, now that I've written to [email protected] with the copy of transfer's acceptance and subsequent promotion in my group?? I ask because I've written twice before with no response.? This time when I wrote, I am a premium group owner, which I recently noticed was a requirement.? I sent them that email about 2.5 hours ago.?

Re: Transfer NOW - green button to transfer

I have not heard back from support and hate to wait any longer in case YG gets glitchy.? With the potential "bug" that was reported, is there a suggestion to "delete the transfer", delete groups.io as moderator from YG and restart the process.?? Has that worked for anyone to get the "green button"??

Thankful,? Claudia

Proposal: Sharing language help for groups in the Wiki #translation #wiki

There have been people saying they need translations of some of the interface and there are others who say they have created such translations.

I suggested a section of GMF wiki to store and share translations that are useful for using Groups.io.?

I got this started, and now I am hoping that owners will decide to share with others through the wiki.

What is ready for you:

l set up a new topic on the wiki, and it is ready for you and for content.?

The landing page lists separate pages for different languages? This is essentially a subsidiary table of contents for the wiki for the different language pages.

I created the first entry on the landing page, just to show style.
?
To add content or new languages:

Click on New Page to create a page for your language help page.
Each language should have its own page, but if necessary, there could be more than one page for a specific language, (For example, one for Admin functions for owners or moderators, one for members.)?
?
URL: This is the style for the URL for each language page.?
?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Language---xxx

URLs are automatically generated by the title of the page. So there may be a page titled Language - French, one titled Language - German (or Deutsch - your preference).

Save the page.

After you save the page, copy the URL for the page. List the page on the landing page (not the main Table of Contents for the wiki).
Link it here:?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Languages%3A-Translation-Help-for-Groups.io

Wiki pages are easy to create - write or paste and you can change font, colour, indents, etc. in the Advanced Toolbar ("hamburger" menu).
You can also link and add attachments and screenshots / photos. Special Character in the second line of the Advanced Toolbar has accents and other diacriticals.
?
And don't worry - the beauty of a wiki is that you can undo. You can compare pages and revert to an older version if necessary.?

Useful to put a brief explanatory note in the footer saying what you have changed.?
?
I hope the is clear enough!
?
The only thing you have to be careful about is not losing the page you are working on before it is linked - hooked into - the landing page menu. You can see all the pages of the wiki at the bottom of the main page - a blue button Pages. But there are lots of them.
That's why I suggest you adopt a style -
languages - French,
languages - Greek,
etc.?
There is a search box at the top of the wiki screen.

Changing Display Name

Hello,

Re: Photos in Files Section

Duane is correct. I was not suggesting the option to "Allow Photos in Files" be removed from gio, only that allowing photos to be uploaded to Files is not appropriate for my Groups.

It is important to understand that the "Allow Photos in Files" option checks only the extension of the file to be uploaded and inhibits image-type extension files. So, a .doc file with an embedded image would still be allowed even if that function is not set to "Allow..."

One issue is that there is no thumbnail of a photo uploaded to Files, unlike in Photos. A responsible moderator will monitor what is uploaded to verify content is appropriate and not offensive; not having a thumbnail makes that difficult. Conserving storage space is important for both Basic and Premium Groups so verifying image content is worthwhile.

If an image to be shared is actually a line graphic, a .pdf may be a better choice and smaller-size than a .jpg.

I appreciate the informed and wise help available here!

Larry, I am against this.
I believe Larry was saying that he should set up the options this way for his group, not that it should be removed from the site.
