Re: Bouncing Members
David,
That seems a bit high. I'm not sure if it's because they wereThe exact cause is that they were listed on the Bouncing tab of the Members list in the Yahoo Group. It may be either too high or too low, depending on circumstance. The rejection tracking mechanism in Yahoo Groups has been broken for some time, so that list will likely contain both false positives and false negatives. "This is to notify you that user@... has left your group ...These would be people who received the "You've been added" notice and chose to opt out. Or people who unsubscribed later. For whatever reason, you can only speculate unless you contact them. ... but how can if figure out which 282 were "bouncing" to help themProbably the majority of those are actually "dead" email addresses. But in there may be some false positives, addresses that are now functional, but weren't at some point, as well as addresses that might reject all Yahoo Group messages but be functional otherwise. You could try to address this by exporting the Bouncing list from your Yahoo Group and send each of those addresses an inquiry using your personal email to find out which ones work and which don't. Or, Invite that list to your Groups.io group. The bounce tracking done by Groups.io will immediately identify which of those rejected the Invitation. Having a Premium group, you could do the same test using the Direct Add page, however the downside is that then you've needlessly added a bunch of bouncing addresses to your Members list. You are also likely to see some number of false negatives: addresses that were bad, but not detected by Yahoo Groups. Those have likely already been put into Bouncing status in your Groups.io group, as a result of rejecting the "you've been added" notice and/or your group's Welcome notice. Re: PG Offline users

Larry: It's possible to get a members list with PG Offline. However, it's a multi-step process.? First, in the left hand panel, select the specific group name.? Hover the mouse over the group name, then right-click, and choose "Get Members for Current Group" first.? You might think you can just select "Export Members for Current Group" but if you do that, you get a .CSV file of one line, with nothing in the file.? So first, "Get" (you'll see the usernames fly by in the lower panel, in alpha order) then "Export" By default the .csv will be saved to the "pg-offline-exports" folder in your main "documents" folder location.? One odd thing I found, however is that despite having 1374 members in my group that was on Yahoogroups, the .csv only has 1364 member usernames and email addresses.? Not sure why that is happening.... if anyone has any ideas, let me know.? HTH, David ? On 2019-11-03 22:17, Larry McDavid wrote:

Thanks for that idea Barb.
I¡¯m trying the sub group idea first - I share a lot of needlework designs with my group and like to run them past the Admin team first so they can pick up on any mistakes or give suggestions etc - that means we¡¯d probably outgrow a free group fairly quickly. ?But I can see the advantage and I will keep the idea in mind! thanks for replying! ?It¡¯s much appreciated. Yes, PG Offline downloads membership lists and it is NOT limited to 1000 members. I have used it on all the groups I own or moderate. On Sun, Nov 3, 2019 at 10:21 PM Larry McDavid <lmcdavid@...> wrote: Does PG Offline download Yahoo Group membership? |
Re: Bouncing Members
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBob / and other GMF members: I'd put my forum into the queue on October 19, and got the notification email on?Saturday, November 2 that the migration was completed.? However, out of a list of 1374 members, I see in my "statistics" that "282 email addresses were not added because they were bouncing." That seems a bit high. I'm not sure if it's because they were Yahoo.com email addresses which are no longer being used (and thus bouncing), or the member's email address host had been bouncing messages from Yahoogroups....? I know a long while back I had that happen with one mail provider and whenever it happened I had to go into my user settings on Yahoogroups and force it to?send a new message in?order to clear out that "bouncing" notification.? After the migration I only ended up with 1085 members in my group on groups.io -- and from Saturday on, I've been getting notifications like this: "This is to notify you that user@... has left your group [nameofgroup]@groups.io." I'm not clear why this is happening. It may be because these are not regular participants, who aren't aware the forum is moving, and they were confused about the message they received from this new group with the same name now on groups.io.... or they may truly have decided this is the time to "unsubscribe."?? The total of these "X has now left your group" email addresses is now at 22.? I can write these former members individually or as a group via a note on the old Yahoogroups forum and make sure they intended to leave -- but how can if figure out which 282 were "bouncing" to help them with migrating to this new version of the group on Groups.io? Is there any easy way to do that?? David On 2019-11-03 19:58, Bob Miller wrote:

Re: PG Offline users

I was able to download all my 3000 messages in one large html archive file by changing the "messages per page" number in settings from the default 50 to 3000. What I would like to do, and maybe this is possible with a good html editor, is to rearrange the messages by subject, but this is not a must, just a convenience. When exporting from PGO, your options are by date or by message number. You can rearrange the message window to group them by subject (or any other column), but you can't export them this way. Again, a minor issue.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLarry,I'll have to try to remember my old login. In Yahoo Groups a memberships (including its Role crown, if any) is known by two identifiers: an email address and (optionally) an account, aka Yahoo Profile. When signed in either your new or old account the Membership menu may give you access to alternate memberships, held by that account under different email addresses: Some of the addresses may have crowns the others don't. Switch to one that does in order to have the page show the Management menu. If you can't sign in to your old account for whatever reason, you may still be able to transfer the membership holding the crown to your new account. But that requires that you both remember what that email address is, and that you can still receive messages there. That latter may be the killer if your crown is held by an Yahoo Mail address that you can no longer sign into. I can't see the membership list. I do have several other addresses, but I don't know if I used any of them to post messages. I know that I only used one address to start the group and manage it over the years. If you have a group message in your email folders, one sent by you using the address used to manage the group, there's a header field that will show you exactly what it's Yahoo Profile is: X-Yahoo-Profile: That's the profile you need to enter into Yahoo's Sign in page. Exactly as it is written there (most likely without any @yahoo.com? or other email address decoration - that applies only to newer accounts). Of course you still need to remember the password, or try going through the password recovery mechanism. Transfer of Photos from Yahoo Group
I am on the queue for the transfer from yahoo group to groups.io . Judging by the progress of last week it will take another 10 days or so to get my turn. In the transfer instructions I checked all the fields (files, photos, emails, etc). And I gather I cannot "uncheck" items without starting all over.
My question regards photos. One of my group members kindly took on the task of transferring? approx 700 photos from the yahoo group to the "io" group by using the PGO software. When my turn comes for the massive transfer, what happens if many photos (maybe not all but quite a few) have already been transferred to the groups.io? Will the system transfer the whole batch again and create duplicates? Comments will be appreciated. Fernando |

Re: Bouncing Members
Bob,
members until today. This evening I now have 97 bouncing members andInteresting. But I wouldn't necessarily read too much into it. And the latest bounces started at 5:36PM and it says ¡°Email to¡° isBouncing is tracked for the email address across all groups. So the bouncing in those cases may have been triggered by messages in some other group. Check the members' Email Delivery History to see what you can learn. It won't tell you much if the bounce was triggered by a different group (privacy), but the rejection could also be of a message from your group, long delayed by Yahoo Mail. Re: migration question
Cathy?
If you used Groups.io's transfer, this is what should have transferred: 5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?
message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.
Those with "no mail" status in YG migrating to a Groups.io group with "no mail" disabled will have Special Notice status instead.
