This is not the first report about this that has appeaed, albeit from others rather than you.

Is [email protected] still listed as a member? If so, why reinvite it? Just promote it to Moderator again.

Also, it would appear that the agent should be designated "Owner" rather than "Moderator" to accomplish needed transfer tasks.?

Where did that idea come from?

Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I set up a transfer from a yahoo group today, but yahoo groups will not let me send an invite to groups.io. How do I complete the transfer?

Larry

Re: How long does signup take?

It took 3 full days for me - the second time. The first time my invite disappeared. So keep checking your page to make sure it doesn¡¯t suddenly change from ¡°waiting¡± to ¡°send invite to¡±

I lost a full week because I didn¡¯t realize that could happen.

Re: Activity Log

My concern? It wasn't a concern, as much as it was a question. I didn't know something like what I found in the Activity Log, would be displayed for me to see.

Re: reply to sender/group

Frances... In testing our test groups.io system, there are three message situations that are unfortunately inconsistent in terms of "reply to" options. Both the digests and some of the single emails have options for replying directly to Group, Sender, Mute, etc. However, many of the single reply emails have only "View/Reply online, Mute, Group Owner, and Unsubscribe". In this latter case, the user uses their email clients Reply button to reply to group, but the only way to reply to Sender in this case is to follow the online link (log-in, etc.), which is not going to go well with our membership.

My group property is set for "Group" and I have not ticked the "Remove Other Reply Options".

I have been trying to figure out why some single emails have the full complement of options and others not. I can't see it.

Importing data from Vanilla Forums #importingdata

We've recently joined Groups.io and had a very successful migration from our existing Yahoo Group. However, we'd also like to bring over existing Vanilla Forums archives here as well.

I believe that we can request a MySQL dump from VF, but does anyone have experience importing this into Groups.io? Or can someone point me to further documentation about importing other forums into Groups.io? I haven't had much luck searching the archives for MySQL or Vanilla Forums.

Thanks!

Accepting new member requests before transfer is complete?

Edward Borg

Hi Group;

Should we be accepting new members requests or wait for the transfer to complete?
Do you think it would affect the transfer?
Maybe they are using different emails and might have more than one membership once transfer is complete.
Plus, I know some may start posting to the group or start uploading content.

Sincerely;
Edward Borg

Changing group name while transferring from Yahoo

I noticed the other day a message on here stating groups could not have an underscore in the name. I had created my group 4 years ago, but only started the transfer process last week. We are at level 3 and wasn't sure if it would disrupt the transfer if I remove the underscore now.

I see here how to make the change, but don't want to have to start from square one in the transfer. We are 191 in the queue.

Thanks,
Sara

#transfer #transfer

Hi:? I requested transfer of yahoo group "NYC-MM", invited the groups.io agent, made [email protected]?a moderator, and the transfer appears to be in the migration queue, working its way up.? But I notice the moderator [email protected]?has disappeared in the NYC-MM group.? Do I need to reinvite the agent?? I am worried that my group will work its way to the front of the migration queue and the agent won't be able to make the transfer, not being a moderator anymore.

Also, it would appear that the agent should be designated "Owner" rather than "Moderator" to accomplish needed transfer tasks.? Thoughts on this as well???

Thanks.

Bonnie -- Are you talking about the Invite, or the Welcome notice?

An invitation has canned wording as you noted, and does contain an email address, but does not actually instruct anyone to post there.

The default Welcome notice can be overridden by creating a custom one from scratch and making it Active.

Thank you for the explanation! I do have a restricted group but I didn't understand why it was a part of accepting new members.

Re: How long does signup take?

Ok, thanks Duane...

I had thought from other posts that 12 hours was considered to be an extreme time. ?Now I know "soon" means 3-4 days I'm not to worry so much.

Re: moving emails from yahoo to io

Florian....

I would like to thank you for your post.? Many will benefit.? When I started using a unix port, only freeBSD was available.? Then I moved to linux.? I vaguely recall the commands you have in your answer.? When a GUI interface came out, i moved.? I regret not keeping up my skills at the command line.?

I will hit the books.? This is a elegant solution.

Thank you for taking the time to post.

Only Moderators and Owners can post to an Announcement group. Did you actually make this person a Moderator (pull down the "Role" menu), or are you instead using one of the overrides in the "Posting Privileges" section? If you did the latter, it will not work.

Be sure to save any changes.

? Interested in your topic as I am also just setting up an Announcements Only mailing list.

The intro letter that people get states that they can post in the "canned" info that is sent to them, with my additional added text below stating it is announcement only, and I've made it so only moderators can post (only me) but they still think they can because of the canned text at the top of the welcome message.

Any way to change that?

On an Announcement type group, only moderators can post, regardless of which settings you choose for the member (i.e., Override: not moderated)? In order for them to post, you'd need to make them a moderator.? They must also send from the email address that has moderator privileges.
