Transfer complete! 48,000 messages! Will we be be able to search them?

I tried searching a phrase or two in the Messages, but none were found. Will these old messages be searchable with time?

That can be used for various reasons, but isn't needed for normal interaction.? If your group name is butterflies, they'd send email to butterflies@ group.io (without the space)? For replies, the address will automatically be filled in when they hit the Reply button in their email program.

Re: Yahoo Group transfer update

I also gave the GoAhead on 10/22 but both my groups are still stuck on Step 1 even though they are small groups without a lot of files and archives.? You are very lucky to be at Step 3 already. My members and groups are in limbo waiting to be copied from YG!

Discourse is a *BIG DEAL* to only use for emails! Way overkill. It's a full-featured flat forum system. Check out Eve Online or World of Warcraft forums to see it in action.

Members can set their preferences here and only get emails, even though the system saves all of them for future reference, just like Yahoo Groups.

Hi Juulz... I'm attempting to respond to your message from my outside email not from the online forum page. Practicing what I think most of our folks want to do.

You are right that Discourse seems to be quite the big deal. The person who is familiar with it and wants us to switch to it believes we should have more capability than just emailing back and forth. From my perspective, groups.io seems to have plenty of capability, including the online forum view, searching, etc. For us to run a Discourse system, and be affordable, we would have to download and maintain/support the software on our own server, otherwise their hosting fee from them is $100 per month.

I'm just trying to see what really works and how well to be able to make an "intelligent" decision. This other fellow seems a bit "pushy" in his desire for us to move in his direction.

That's been covered several times recently, using various methods.? There's no way for you to import them, so you'd need to create a file or something like that.

That will be on the transfer page once you move to at least Step 3 of 4.

BTW, I expect your first invitation never made it into the queue since you sent the invitation before you paid (per your list.)? You might have better luck following the detailed instructions at /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19673

Yes. You can go to the profile and make it not visible to public.

Sadly no; English only. FWIW the user - customisable sections of the member notices can be written in any language but overall it would be of no help.

To the best of my knowledge, no there isn't, or not without a possible compromise of one's personal email address.?

Alternative answer; if there is a way I have yet to find it as well. :)

As to your earlier point I was still trying to understand the GIO history on why this hasn¡¯t been addressed in the 18 months since Chris raised it when this happened, .the only answer I can provide is that some suggestions catch Mark's eye fairly easily; others don't. In reality there seem to be a lot of perfectly valid suggestions that fall by the wayside. If and when the dust settles I'll try to raise it again on beta.

Incompatible Payment Status

I anticipated something might go wrong but this is ridiculous!

Chase Bank says the transaction was approved and the Groups.io upgrade page says "Card Declined"!
CB says it's not our problem, call the merchant! Yeah, right! Now what do I do

I went to the upgrade page, chose the $220 option and entered my card info. Card declined!
Tried again. Same thing.

Called CB fraud dept (as this is a common problem with CB and web purchases).
While online to CB, cleared cache, restarted Groups.io session & tried third time.
CB says transaction authorized but no amount specified. Groups.io page says "CARD DECLINED" !!!

CB says I cannot cancel, there is no time limit for Groups.io to submit an amount and Groups.io says "NO REFUNDS"! Since it is Saturday, nothing will be posted to my CB account until Monday.

And time is running out. What in hell do I do now ???

Re: Database Limits #database

Further to this, I was able to import another 10,002 rows in two sessions, so clearly there's an upload limit. . The only trouble is I have 70,000 rows I want to import, and something went wrong with the next batch which has given me 5,000 blank records, which I don't really want to delete 20 at a time... are there any more sophisticated methods for large scale database management, or is it simply a case of the database tool being limited in functionality, which is fair enough.

groups.io - language selection

Ralf Brinkmann

hi folks,

my plan is to move an elder German Yahoo group to another place -
"groups.io" looks very promising - unfortunately many elder people
didn't have the opportunity to learn English at public school - is it
possible to select the German language somewhere in the user interface
of "groups.io"?

Pleasure dealing with Groups.io

I hesitated to send this message given the unbelievable volume of messages being posted but I wanted to give Mark and Groups.io a 'shout-out' for the ease of navigation in his groups.

Yesterday a Yahoo Group I am a member of completed their move to Groups.io. I guess they're paying the premium rate because the files and photos made the move too. It's a group, like many, that used to a fun, interesting and informative group all that began to change around 2009-2010. You can see the change in the monthly message totals and the drop was dramatic. After a while I stopped visiting the site -- there were months when they got less than five messages posted -- and I actually forgot all about it. Yesterday when I got the transfer message I noticed I was still subscribed through my old AOL email. I wanted to change to my Gmail account. It was easy to find out how to do it. Once I made the request, Groups.io immediately sent a message with a link to my Gmail address. If I clicked on the link (which I did) my AOL account would be 'merged' into my Gmail account. I was warned that, while my membership would be changed to Gmail as requested, I would no longer be able to use the AOL account. That was fine. I never use the AOL account anymore anyway. (In fact, I would have deleted it except two old fogies I know have absolutely REFUSED to use my Gmail. They still send everything to my AOL account. For them I keep it going.)

Anyway, being a Yahoo Groups member the past couple of years, as Yahoo began to withhold even the most basic forms of support from Yahoo Groups members, it was nice to have be able to use a responsive, streamlined process. The change worked quickly and was intelligently set up.

Thanks Mark! You've restored my faith in the internet. Well, kind of restored it anyway. :)

How narrow are the columns?

Are you sure this isn't the way the sender wrote it? Your message in the
digest covered the full width of the screen; however my email client is
set to wrap at 72 characters when writing messages.

If your message also appeared to you in a narrow column, check if there
is a setting in your mail reader to alter that.

Victoria is not doing that anyway; look at the screenshots; she composed "Test" using the web UI with her "owner" address selected, but when it was eventually posted it just appeared as being from Victoria with the white cat displayed. No sign that it was a Group Owner message whatsoever. (FWIW her subscribers will see it as having come from the Group Owner address, but only if they look for it.)

I only need to post as Group Owner when there is? "Group Management" matter to raise, and I think it is valid to expect that posts from a group owner should be easily distinguishable? from run-of-the-mill chatter, which is why I raised the issue 18 months ago.

A Group_Management hashtag can help, but that is much less obvious in an email delivery than it is on the web UI.

?

I¡¯m new here, but this is a topic that¡¯s been flummoxing me.? I was still trying to understand the GIO history on why this hasn¡¯t been addressed in the 18 months since Chris raised it when this happened.? (Note:? please remember that I¡¯m new & none of my Yahoo groups have completed transfer yet, although one has finally reached #298 on Step 3, and while I¡¯ve read myself silly, brain integration is lagging behind.)

?

A non-member send an email to our GIO owner email address ¨C it showed up in my email client, but where is it within the GIO web site?? I can see a single line in the activity log but not the email itself & the non-member email address isn¡¯t hyperlinked.? Also, since the email is from a non-member, how do I respond to it using the +owner email address?

?

I wouldn¡¯t say this happens often, but it¡¯s not unusual for non-members to contact the owner address before joining, etc..? Understandably, it seems to me, I¡¯m not interested in responding from my personal email address to an unknown entity.? Is there no way to respond to emails sent by non-members to the +owner email address?

?
