Re: how to handle group owner emails - not generated from a topic

RE: the Gmail question. (talking about the Gmail web interface on a PC)
Some comments:
1 - the default view for Gmail is Conversation View On - which groups emails with the same subject together.? If you click the Reply button at the bottom of the last message, you are replying to the Conversation and it is quoting/including the prior messages.? ?This just puts the prior emails into the body of the new message you are creating, once there, you can edit the email body as you wish.? Click the 3 dots "..." to expand the quoted text to view/edit it.
2 - when viewing the emails in a conversation, you can expand/collapse individual ones by clicking on the subject.? With an email expanded, there is a "More" menu (3 vertical dots on the right) that gives you options?for that message.? Click Reply in the More menu to reply to that message alone.? It should quote only the content of that message.? Again, this is put in the body of the new email that you can edit as you wish.
3 - Might want to turn Conversation View Off in the Settings to experiment with both views.??
Thanks
Toby

Re: contacting support about a transfer

There is much information on this in the GMF wiki at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam?. The bottom line is that there isn't much you can do, and if this person wants to come back, all (s)he as to do is click on the link in the resub email.

Despite the many complaints about this particular feature of groups.io, most of the people that I've had unsub for this reason actually did it intentionally. In particular to your own situation, many people found it difficult to unsub from Yahoo groups and instead changed their message delivery to No Email. Such folks will be disconcerted when -- out of the blue -- they receive notification that they are still members of a group that they tried to quit years ago.

So having maybe 5% of your subscribers unsub from your group -- or some of their email accounts to start bouncing -- after a transfer is normal.?See also?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Afterward?
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

Welcome to the club!

I do have the subgroup on moderation, and I finally thought to look at the activity log which shows:?
? ? ?xxxx? sent message??to owners via email
? ? ?yyyy sent message??to owners via email

I received these emails at my normal email address and these were the basis for my initial question. I did some testing with another account, and I'm not sure how they actually got to this point they must have replied to the email.
Any automated Members Notices are sent from the +owner address. It appears that these two were direct replies to the Group Guidelines and were not actually posted to the subgroup itself...thus the source of my own confusion.

You can also access incoming +owner messages by opening the subscriber's record in the Members List and clicking on the far right button at the top of the resulting page.?

I've done some playing, and I think I understand what to do now - please confirm.? Do I use the activity log entries to reply?? Seems a bit funky.? I found that if I click on the highlighted "Re:" portion it brings up a reply email box. Is there a better way to do this? I don't see them any other place.
Either way is fine, but generally it will be easier to use the "+owner Messages" link in their Member record than to go muddling around in the Activity log.?

Bruce

I tried that, it still doesn't put the proper value in the "City" section.? There's something in the import function that's grabbing the wrong value.

Received from Nelson Lau at 10/22/2018 02:47 AM UTC:

I'm trying to import an address book into the Databases section using a CSV file...

All the columns import correctly, except for "ADDRESS:City". "ADDRESS:City" is being populated by "ADDRESS:Address Line 1" data.
Your data contain commas... which are properly enclosed in quotes so it's a Gio bug. You should report to support.

A somewhat ugly workaround is to import data into Excel, mass change commas to something like dashes, then export again as CSV that you could then import to Gio. It would make for ugly address labels, but would be human readable.

...I believe Mark's intent is that owners and moderators would establish a set of hashtags with various reply-to override settings, as appropriate for their group. Subscribers could then "lock in" the reply options for topics they initiate by use of the hashtag, which Mods and Owners could subsequently override via the More menu pull-down.?
?
To test the notion, I've created a "ReplyToSender" hashtag for my subscribers on a trial basis. I doubt it will get very much use, but we'll see. I want my group to be a community, and if it gets too much use I'll delete it.

Sending a message from the +owner address can only be done online.

Find the message that was posted and select "Member Page" from the More menu. Scroll to the bottom of the resulting page* and select "Send Message." The From field in the resulting message editor is a pull-down menu where you can select either the +owner address or your subscribed email address (the one that is currently logged in). Compose your message, select CC option checkboxes as appropriate, and send.

Consider putting the subgroup on moderation until things settle down. Hopefully someone will send you a private reply to your GMail question.

Bruce

Of course, at that point the initial message has already gone out...with the wrong reply options in the footer. See on this.

This status message suggests that your invitation did not go through. Sometimes Yahoo has problems with their invitation system.

You did send the invitation from your YAHOO group, right?

Should I send the invite again?
Yes. See /g/GroupManagersForum/message/8697, step 9.

how to handle group owner emails - not generated from a topic

My main group finally got moved last night which is great, but now the stupid questions start, sorry.

I have already received emails this morning from 2 different individuals from the welcome letter or group guidelines - they were addressed to the [email protected]?email address.

First question - how do I email them back using the owner email address instead of my private email address? I tried gmail help, and if I used their method I would be logging into an alias or a different account all day long.

Second question for a gmail expert - when I have 2 emails come in from different people, if I reply or forward, the entire email string is shown, and I need to be able to deal with each individual email separately. Yes, I know that is a gmail question, but their help is very unhelpful at times.

Thanks a lot
Beth

Should I send the invite again?

Re: #importingdata #howtoguide #howto #howto #importingdata #howtoguide

That certainly appears to be a bug (that I was able to reproduce.)? You should send the information to [email protected]

Thank you, Thank you!
Now I know how I was accidentally getting some of the message included in a reply.

The rest of that link was helpful, as well. ?

If you are replying using the Reply link on a message in the group's
Messages pages, see this guide:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-composition-tips-and-tricks

If you are replying through your emil interface then it would depend on
which interface/service you are using.
