Following Only & First Message Also

I tried searching for an answer to my question, but couldn't find it in any posts.? So, any insight would be helpful.

If a member has "Following Only" & "First Message Also" selected in the Advanced Preferences AND there has been replies to the topic prior to this member choosing to "Follow this topic", will they receive the existing (past) replies?? Or will they only get any new (future) replies?

Re: Members receiving post at different times

Paula,
We haven't heard back from you so maybe you and the other members figured something out.? If so, be nice to know what that was if you'd be willing to share.??
I will mention that, if everyone had Individual Messages set and some did not receive a post in a "timely" fashion, the email is handled asynchronously on a best effort basis.? Once groups.io has passed it on to the recipient's email server, it's out of the picture and only by tracing the headers can you learn where it went and how long it took.? There is no guarantee of delivery in a certain time.? If groups.io encountered an error in sending, it would log that error as a bounce report.
Now, to investigate the "slow" emails, you can use a header analyzer tool which Google has made available (for anyone).? Info here ->?
You need to get the original source document of the received email with headers (Show Original in Gmail) and paste that text into the .
For example, the email I got from your original post to the GMF took 15 minutes.

Created at: 5/14/2018, 4:09:38 PM CDT ( Delivered after 15 mins )
# Delay From?* ? ? To?* Protocol Time received ?
0 15 mins web01.groups.io ¡ú ? pb-mx13.pobox.com 5/14/2018, 4:24:23 PM CDT
So, in this case, at that specific time, there was a 15 minute delay from when you posted/sent the message to when groups.io processed that post and sent to the group.
[Having researched this, I'll add it to the GMF wiki]

You mentioned that your group does "daily discussions led by a panelist" - this sounds like Chat might work better if you want a more real-time discussion at a specific time.

Thanks
Toby

Re: Multiple invitations not received #membership

Chris, to designate my response to your questions, I'm using all caps. I didn't want you to think I was yelling at you. :)

However, there is one lady who did not receive the personal invitation I sent her. I sent another, but she did not receive that one either. She has checked her spam folders, etc.
This might be classified as a silly question but how do you know she didn't? Have you used an alternative email address to contact her??

SHE SENT ME A PRIVATE EMAIL, LETTING ME KNOW THAT SHE HAD NOT BEEN TRANSFERRED. I SENT HER AN INVITATION FROM THE INVITATION SECTION OF GROUPS.IO TO THE ADDRESS SHE HAD ON OUR YAHOO GROUP.

I have sent her the link to finding our group on groups.io; hopefully that will work.

Was that sent from your Owner / Moderator's address or from a different one?

IF I AM UNDERSTANDING YOUR QUESTION, IT WAS SENT FROM THE EMAIL I USE AS THE MODERATOR OF THE GROUP.

?

Is there some reason that she might not have received either of the invitations?

Is she listed an a "bouncing member" for some reason?

SHE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH OUR YAHOO GROUP AND I COULDN'T FIND HER ANYWHERE IN OUR GROUPS.IO MEMBERSHIP.

Multiple invitations not received #membership

There have been a few people from my Yahoo group who were not transferred and I just send them an invitation.?

Re: Integration with copying messages to subgroup #integration #subgroups

All messages copied from one group will need to go to the same group or subgroup. There are no provisions for splitting things.

Integration with copying messages to subgroup #integration #subgroups

I want to move mail list from Yahoo groups to this site. As this site allows subgroups I would like to copy messages from Yahoo to specific subgroup instead of main group. I want members from Yahoo to be copied as members of main group. Is that possible?

Re: Poll results

I think that is a good solution.? Thank you for presenting it.?

I like that, Bob.
Unfortunately, the owner of that one list had gone AWOL over 20 years ago and as moderator I did not have permission to change the banner or invitation.
Therefore I deleted all from that list after the successful transfer and only the owner and I remain as members.

I should have said in the digest. It is of course shown in individual eMails.

Does anyone know why my signature got reformatted to this?? I don¡¯t think I¡¯ve seen that happen before. It was originally the same font and size (11pt) as the text.

There is no way to isolate multiple questions so that the results are shown separately. A hack would be to allow users to provide multiple choices. Ask your questions and make it clear in the answers which question each choice applies to. It¡¯s (more than) a little ugly, and my preference would be two nearly simultaneous polls.

Trying to set up my first poll and it seems that a poll can only have one question. ?Is that really true? ?If not, can someone point me to info on how to create a multi-question poll?

Account merge :-(

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I created 2 groups using my gmail account in groups.io
I joined 1 of them with my live.com address.
I thought I'd consolidate the 2 accounts as I wanted to use the Live account in other groups. So I did a 'merge accounts' Reading thru the info provided, I thought that all my settings would be transferred. But they? didn't & those 2 groups I created are currently without an owner. I'm trying to tell the other mod how to change my settings.
Any help is appreciated

Bonnie

question why I was automatically added to it as a group owner
As far as we know, no one has ever been automatically added to this group. If that were happening, there should be a lot more than 853 members. It is shown as a recommendation for getting help at /static/help#questions-and-bug-reports though

Re: Is there a way to force "via groups.io"? #issue

As?Shal suggested, I have moved this to the beta group and Mark is already involved in the conversation. I consider a "bug" as being something that is not working as designed so I did not consider this a bug. Rather I consider it a feature accommodation for servers which do extended SPF validation and extended internal domain blocking without DMARC. I was unaware that the groups.io folks (I did not know who Mark was until he responded in the beta group).do not monitor this group and question why I was automatically added to it as a group owner if it is not. Live and learn...

Re: Attachments & Digests

Attachments were not sent with digests on Yahoo. Are they on Groups?
Yes. Large attachments may be sent as links, but are still stored on the server.

We were one of the groups who summarily had all the attachments in our files deleted. That meant all the records from the formation of multi-million $ housing community were lost. I started reminding everyone to both use attachment but to paste the information into the message so it couldn¡¯t be separated and lost.
I find myself very disconcerted by your use of "summarily" in this context. The transfer instructions are quite clear that message attachments are not migrated. Also, they were in no sense "lost"...they were still right there, in your Yahoo group. You could have gone there and rescued them...or continued to use Yahoo, if it was that important.

Is there anything to be cautious of in attachments now?
Be aware that they take up part of your [1 GB?] storage allocation and -- depending on your settings -- old ones may get deleted when you exceed that allocation.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: HELP Please!!! [transferring a Yahoo Group]

I came up upon the same boondoggle. From within your Yahoo group send an invitation to [email protected] to join your Yahoo group.

Once he joins your Yahoo group you will need to give make him a moderator. I¡¯m still awaiting for this to happen in my Yahoo group.

You invite the transfer agent's email address ([email protected]) to your YAHOO group.

Instructions can be found at

Attempting to invite it to your new group at is a common error.

Hope this helps,

Re: Chat Issues

I'd report it to support, /static/help#questions-and-bug-reports. You should include as much information as you can, including approximate time of day, group name. etc. That will make it easier for Mark to troubleshoot.
