At the risk of beating a dead horse, one last note for the newbies...

A little over a month ago, all of a sudden the entire groups.io domain was being flagged as a phishing site by Norton, AVG, and perhaps others. I had just transferred my group and spent a lot of time convincing my members that we hadn't made a big mistake in abandoning Y!G and all the "red banners of death" they were experiencing were just a false alarm. Mark and many others turned in reports telling these providers that groups.io was fine; nonetheless, at least one internet security provider continued to flag the groups.io web site as a source of malware for more than a week.

As it turned out, a single spam report to Norton/Symantec may have been the source, which propagated through the other providers like wildfire.?

This event convinced me that handling of spam reporting is not something that we can play fast and loose with.?I can't speak for other group owners, but having a member occasionally get bumped off -- and the mild annoyance of reinstating them -- is a small price to pay to avoid a repeat of that.?

Is it irritating? Yes. Complaints of this nature will no doubt continue to filter in here because we're the only ones willing to listen and respond. But to have any real impact, they need to be directed to the source of the problem...one's own ESP.?

Shal; I noticed that you had done quite a lot of work on the draft wiki page, for which many thanks. I was going to take a small step back at this point because I don't want to risk triggering an Edit War, even by accident, although so far I haven't seen anything material that I would change anyway.

However, I have added the "Notice to Member" in the space you left based on the one referred to me yesterday; having just spotted how to insert a horizontal line (I hope!) I am about to put up a copy of the current Notice to Owner & Moderators.

I hope this will prove acceptable.

You have to create the new group before you can initiate a transfer, so this issue with acceptable characters should be encountered upon group creation and has no bearing on the transfer agent.

I suspect the underscore restriction has something to do with the subdomain addressing that one encounters in groups.io when creating subgroups. Y!G has no subgroups.

The transfer itself does not take long, but there is a waiting list, so it won't be done immediately. As best I can tell, groups are being transferred in order of request. Last I heard the queue was running around 2-3 days...AFTER you accept the transfer agent as a group Moderator and send notification that you're ready.

If the members aren't moved first, the messages cannot be linked to any existing member accounts, and will instead be linked to the group owner. Generally speaking it's unlikely that's what your group members will want.

The same goes for files and photos and all other group content.

That depends on your group settings and also on he individual user settings. See Admin->Settings->Message Formatting.

There are some group and member settings that might bear on this. Hopefully others have played with these settings enough that they know more about what they do than I currently do.

Group settings...check Admin->Settings->Message Formatting. Normalize HTML emails will strip colors and such. Force HTML emails will make sure it's sent out as HTML but this might not be too friendly to some email clients. Leaving both unclicked should forward whatever is received, at least to those receiving Individual Messages (more on that below). Plain text only will strip all formatting.?Pick your poison.

Now click on the "Subscription" tab for your individual preferences, which contains personalized settings. "Individual emails" should receive whatever the group settings recommend. I believe the full featured digest setting is kinda like "normalize HTML emails" in that it will preserve fonts and size but strip colors, CSS, etc. Plain digest is [probably] like plain text only. I don't know about the daily summary.

The good thing about some of these plain text formats is that they contain no active hyperlinks and are thus less likely to be flagged as malicious/spam. What to do depends on what you want it to do, which was not explicit in your inquiry.

Underscores are OK in Yahoo!Group names.

Underscores are NOT OK in Groups.io group names.? Bummer.

I guess that's why you got the error message?? Does the automated transfer process have a way to translate underscores in the name to something else?

Few people wound ever find them in the Database section.
Can I add them to the Description area?
