You have to create the new group before you can initiate a transfer, so this issue with acceptable characters should be encountered upon group creation and has no bearing on the transfer agent. I

If the members aren't moved first, the messages cannot be linked to any existing member accounts, and will instead be linked to the group owner. Generally speaking it's unlikely that's what your group
