Re: Bug in Groups.io?

Rumor has it that Norton is reporting it, too.

My probable scenario:?

-- Yahoo group owner(s) fail to adequately notify his/her members of an upcoming migration (possibly because they were set on "no email").

-- A few of those brave souls click on the link anyway during today's system maintenance. Up pops a cat photo.

-- Panic ensues.

Re: QUESTION RE - CHANGING THE AUTO RESPONSE SETTING ON MESSAGES

In the Settings for your group, look for Message Policies. The sixth item listed is Reply To. Change your selection to Sender. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and click Update Group, to save your new setting.

Hope that helps,
Linda

QUESTION RE - CHANGING THE AUTO RESPONSE SETTING ON MESSAGES

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I am finding the Group Managers Forum extremely difficult to navigate.
?
I am trying to find out if there is a way to change the "apparent" default when someone posts a message to the entire group.
?
Currently, every time a member posts a message to the forum it goes to every member in the group.
?
NO PROBLEM.
?
However, if I want to reply to the sender and click on the reply button and type my response it automatically gets sent back to ALL members of the group.??
?
Is there a way (like we used to be able to set in Yahoo) to have the default set to reply to originator only??
?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Bug in Groups.io?

Margaret,

A colleague has had a message from her AVG software to say that has been infected with the URL:Mal bug.

Is this true and what are the consequences of this. Should potential subjects hold back from initiating any transfers form YahooGroups until the situation is clarified?

I very much doubt it is true. There have been other reports in a thread in beta:

?
I'm not planning to hold up any of the three group transfers I'm in line for, I'm sure Mark is working to understand the cause of these reports and correct it. I linked to your posting there so Mark might contact you to get any additional information you might have.

Re: After 6 days, still no transfer from yahoogroups

Dave,

We're trying, but it's difficult when for 3 1/2 weeks we've been waiting while others get transferred and YG group members ask when is it happening?
?
Three and a half weeks does seem excessive. Maybe there is a problem in your case.

Is there any evidence of a transfer in progress, such as have some of the addresses from the Y!Group appeared in the Groups.io group? Actually, I don't know if it works that way. Mark might collect all of the information from Yahoo before loading it all at once into the Groups.io group.

Anyway, it might be worth sending a follow-up message to the transfer agent, in case the "Go" you sent got lost. After this much time I don't think he'd consider it "nagging". Include a copy of the information from that message and its date/time and the address it was from (if an owner of the Groups.io group other than you).

Thanks Lily, good to know because my next group has several Pending members.

Re: Your group has been transfered

Stan,

The subject of this group matches the title I gave my message I sent two
days ago. If your message is motivated by the message I sent, then it
was released to the group but I never received the email.

Yup. A short message from you heads this topic.

This must be a case where the message never came through because
of my ISP.

There is something up with your ISP, but I don't have a record for that particular message.
Here's what I see in your Email Delivery History page:

You should be able to see the same (or similar) information through the tab on your
Subscription page.

Victoria,

I wrote a German invitation text, but it shows up in the midst of the preset English text. Is it possible to disable the English invitation text?

?

My solution is to put my text inside of horizontal lines:

Salutation,

In the body I put all the information and links I think they'll need to decide whether to join, and to join. Basically I treat this area as if it were the whole message and the boilerplate wasn't there.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Yours
Myname
My personal email address

I think that helps draw the eye to the change between boilerplate and custom text, sort of giving the eye permission to ignore the boilerplate.

Re: Number of Groups.io Members

Duane,

I was looking over my groups this morning and found there was a new
member from yesterday with a posterid of 1,630,540!
Zowie!

But the number of listed groups has only increased to 4747. So either some big unlisted groups, or an average group size of 3600 for the new ones. Or some combination more likely.

No. My group just got transferred yesterday (one week after the request was sent), and one (and only) pending member wasn't transferred.

The subject of this group matches the title I gave my message I sent two days ago. If your message is motivated by the message I sent, then it was released to the group but I never received the email. This has happened once before where I know for sure my message was released but I never got a copy. I'm only saying this because sometimes I never know if it is Yahoo or my ISP. I get a spam digest from my ISP and never saw my message there. This must be a case where the message never came through because of my ISP. It will probably eventually make it because sometimes I get a message 5 days or longer after it was sent (by me or someone else in my YG).

All 143 members were transferred except one who was marked as bouncing. Files and messages were transferred. We lost about a third of our photos. I tried to download a bunch of photos earlier this week and experienced a lot of problems (http 500 server errors), so that was not surprising.

All in all, I'm quite pleased.

Re: Nifty new Y!Groups transfer form

Shal,
Thanks for pointing out the revised instruction form. I never would have thought of rechecking to see if any changes had been made when I get ready to move my other group over.

Wow!

I was about to send an invite to the transfer agent for three groups, when I decided to re-check the instructions to be sure I hadn't missed anything.

Glad I did.

By some coincidence the instruction page has been updated, and now you start the process by clicking a button and filling in a form. This side-steps all the problems with trying to use Y!Groups Invite mechanism (which some report is working now...).

One of the key advantages is that the application to transfer is tied to your Groups.io login from the outset, which means an immediate acknowledgement by your email address here, again side-stepping the sometimes problematic Y!Groups -owner email address.

You enter the Y!Group name on the form, and select the Groups.io group from a drop-list of your groups. So that makes that easier. A bunch of checkboxes for what you want to transfer, and whether you want an automatic notice to the copied members at the end. This has got to be saving Mark oodles of time - hopefully far more than it took to create it.
/yahootransfer

Astonishingly, one of the three groups got the notification from Yahoo that the transfer agent had joined the group within a couple hours of filling in the form (the other two still waiting). So that group has given the "Go" (again on the form) and waits for its turn to transfer, while the other two wait for the agent to join.

Very nice.
