The group is created immediately but you can't start inviting people, etc., until it's been approved. I think that usually takes a day or less.

For what it's worth, I've fallen into the habit of eliding Groups.io to Grio. Prefer it to Gio because it can't be confused with a small car I once drove... :) Best, Marv
