After my group transferred, we had exactly one snafu: a member sent her email with her logon link to another member, trying to be helpful, and then the member logged into that member's account. (That snafu, IIRC, was the origin of the 60-minute time-out on the login link.:) After that, most people using email were not even aware of the change. We have some group members who STILL think we're in yahoo. It was that seamless. :)

I told them that when complete. please post only on groups.io All posts on the old group will be moderated. No new members will be approved for the YG list. The moderators will no longer moderate (and approve messages) on a timely basis. The old YG group will be an archive, until YG dies, it will not grow. I tend to agree with Don.? I've had a number of yahoogroups since probably 2002 or so and before NEO, I (as administrator/owner/moderator) was able to do a number of things administratively that NEO took away.? Over time, I've found that when you have a problem, you end up with an automated Q&A session that takes you to a FAQ entry that probably doesn't answer your problem.? Getting a human to talk to is pretty much a thing of the past.? They have made changes without advance notification, and many of my older members have a lot of trouble with the CAPTCHA process to change email or join the group, so they end up quitting in disgust.? I had two specific groups I was targeting for a move - the first one had about 150 members and it went like clockwork.? No hiccups whatsoever and it's been going for probably 6-8 months.? My other group was like nearly 1000 folks and I wanted to wait a bit.? What I found was that Yahoogroups access was getting flaky while groups.io wasn't, so I finally decided to migrate the larger group.? It took a little longer (probably because of the demand from former yahoogroup users to move) and some things didn't make it (files mostly, apparently because something is going on over at Yahoogroups - so I'll have to check and see what is happening before I shut down that group).
And, in any transfer like this, you will lose some people and you will gain others.? There are always growing pains, but those folks who are ranting and raving at you for recommending a move are stuck in a paradigm they don't really understand.? I made the migration to Yahoogroups from a LISTPROC server hosted at a university back in 2002.? My co-owner and I talked about the alternatives - we were looking at Majordomo, possibly hosting LISTPROC on a UNIX machine locally, Yahoogroups, Googlegroups, and for whatever reasons back then, we opted for Yahoogroups.? I have found hiccups occasionally in sending invitations or some other routine maintenance, but those have, at least until now, been corrected within a day or two.? Where I am seeing a problem is in the Management Reports. The last entry into any of the reports is January 1st. While this isn't critical, it is annoying, as I check Moderator Activity and Membership Activity frequently. I have taken the precaution of downloading my lists, so even if a transfer should no longer be possible, I will have a list of emails for sending invites from groups.io and starting that way. I've been loathe to make the change on this one list as I expect a series of problems that I just don't want to deal with. My two smallest lists are doing fine on groups.io.

Can I suggest you send your group an email from your migrated group - by email to your Groups.io email address or by logging into your group space on Groups.io and sending something from there?
Then your group members will see they are still group members and are receiving email from the group.? I hope most most of your members are receiving mail. My group is set so that Special Notices is the least frequent delivery method. If you have Special Notices only, send your first message via your group site and tick the Special Notices checkbox.? Well its an adult film star group, so I dont think it is appropriate for here. This website is so much like yahoo groups, except for yahoo allowed adults only groups. Too bad they went under, they were the best for this type of group. Do you have any alternatives that accept adult groups and reach a wide audience.? I think google groups is dead now like yahoo?

There's no way to have a group limited to adults only. To know whether your group is acceptable, you should read Conditions of Use > User Conduct in the TOS. If you still aren't sure, you could send a message to [email protected] for clarification. I think it will depend on the content and intent of the group.

They can use the email commands, shown at /static/help#emailcommands for some. They can also sign in to the site and go to any of their groups, select Subscription from the left menu, and change as needed (being sure to Save when done.)

Are Adult groups allowed on groups.io

Hi, I wanted to transfer my adults only yahoo group to groups.io, but I cannot find any info that adult groups are allowed on here.Can anyone tell me for sure and if so how do I make my group available to adults only. I have not posted or done anything til I find out if my group is allowed. If not, I will be deleting it as soon as I get a reply. Thank You.

So, I think you are saying that everyone will now need to log on toCorrect. What I don't understand is what I need to do next to get the guysFor receiving and posting group messages by email, nothing. They are good to go once copied in by the transfer agent. To access members-only areas of the group web site they need to log in. To do that the first time they can use the Log In page and select either "Forget your password" or "Email me a link to log in". You are confusing a couple of things. Firstly you and your members need
to do absolutely nothing, after the transfer they receive an email telling they have been transferred - there is a link to click in that email if they do NOT want to be in the new group, there is no time limit on that link. I think what you are talking about is the first time they visit the group they are asked to set up a password - they will then be emailed a link to enable that and that link is valid from one hour only from the time they click it. If they decide not to set up a password they will still be members but won't be able to access the group via the web, only email.
