Thank you Frances and Andy! I apologize for my senior moment! LOL
I missed that member notification tab when looking for the welcome message. Apparently I knew about it initially because I added a personal message to it when we first started the group.

Yes, they will receive a standard Groups.io boilerplate message which you can customise but cannot stop (it's a legal requirement in some jurisdictions). They will also receive a Welcome member notice if you have defined one (and this can say what you want). There are different Member Notice types for different events and these are described in the Owner's Manual as /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-member-notices.
And if so . . . . where do I find what that text is presently?
Go to your Admin menu and the click on Invite. You will see the standard note and as you type your custom text, you will see where it fits in. Regards Andy
